  • Anticipation is building...

    I've done nothing...

  • I've done something but it's not anything and if I don't do something I'll be left with nothing and nothing just won't cut it so time to do another something and hope that it is.

  • I've got something. I'll trade you my something for something else. Preferably something better :)

  • I'm gonna do something to something I did a good while ago.

  • Something in the way she moves, preferably, but having committed to a country song, affairs of the heart and below will have to wait until May. And then again she may not.

  • What's the record for number of hit songs by two different British Invasion guitarists written about one woman, anyway? This face inspired at least 5:

Why don't you buy Cyclop over the weekend? You could do some Country Dubstep.

  • I wrote a song but it is slated for our sessions this summer. You'll just have to trust that I did. :-)

    Not helpful you bugger :)

Who's going to cave in and buy Cyclop first? I reckon it's me...

Think so/hope so. But I'm on the verge. Especially with the idea of cutting up bits for The Gadg.

In all seriousness, want to hear how you will bend it to your non-linear will....and suspect that you may be the cause of my soon-thereafter purchase and thus will you also be the point man for blame as regards The Missus, not that it will save my hide.

  • Yeah, Matt isn't/is helping with his 'sampled into Gadget' garden of temptation. Problem is I might have to buy the other Gadget sample sequencer IAP as well look.

It's going to be an expensive evening, though, I've just remembered, not as expensive as it could have been. I was supposed to be going to London this weekend with some mates to see the Bonzo gig, but the maniac in charge of buying tickets left it too late and they sold out. So, Mrs Monzo, 'a couple of app purchases is a lot cheaper than the two hundred quid I could have spent'.....might work, though she's in a bit of a mood at the moment.

I like some of the strange, industrial noises it makes, so I'm thinking there's a bit of Throbbing Gristlesque potential there, as well as the obvious dubwank.

Just remember that when I have 7 songs for July's song of the month club ;-)

I feel I should try and make a track for this month that uses the Cyclops-Gadget combo.

If I get time and it works out I will.

However, I have a track from a few months ago with me singing on it a bit, which I'd like to get some feedback on.

How do you record the vocals Matt? My next move is to look into audio in connections, so interested how others do this.

Interested to know your unconscious 'it's been half an hour and I feel high/brung down' as regards immediate post-purchase state etc.

  • I missed the boat tonight due to post-Masterchef fatigue. However Mrs Monzo bought the 'look how much money I've saved by not going to London' line, and I expect to be doing some industrial wobble by the morrow. Maybe.

For all of you happy bunnies who are thinking 'Ha! 12 days still to go, no worries....!' here are some encouraging words from Gerard Way (My Chemical Romance etc):

Making a record is a lot like surgery without an anesthetic. You first have to cut yourself up the middle. Then you have to rip out every single organ, every single part and lay them on a table. You then need to examine the parts, and the reality of the situation hits you. You find yourself saying things like “I didn’t know that part was so ugly.” Or “I better get a professional opinion about that.” You go to bed hollow and then back into the operating room the next day…facing every fear, every disgusting thing you hate about yourself. Then you pop it all back in, sew yourself shut and perform… you perform like your life depended on it—-and in those perfect moments you find beauty you never knew existed. You find yourself and you friends all over again, you find something to fight for, something to love. Something to show the world.

    Easypeasy.

  • Damn I was planning on doing feb song of month club and still not finished

  • @monzo I have an ''apogee mic' specifically for ipad/iPhone and I just plug it in.

For the song I'll post I had loopy running in sync with my track playing and I just kind of ad libbed some vocal parts into different loopy slots. Then the best ones I processed with VoiceRack FX (TC Helicon app) - sometimes 2 passes to apply 2 fx.

Just a friendly PSA for those folks who otherwise might say: End of the month, already? I was meaning to, but.....

Still time to write the best song you ever will. Or at least a song....c'mon now, finish something off as best as you can, get it out there...

I will be doing (gulp) a public service all my own by posting my first (and likely last) country song. If you know anything at all about my dour nature and interests you will know this is the equivalent of running naked through Buckingham Palace with a plucked turkey on my head (with the turkey doing the singing), which makes this a great month for everyone else; the bar will be set VERY low.....

Sorry Matt I missed this reply. I seem to remember someone posting links a few months back to some really tasty looking mini -mics, I'll have to see if I can find that thread.

I'd have to finish the track in Logic to add vocals at the mo, or yell into the built in mic. At some point I'll need to get a decent hardware input for the iPad.

I'm going to start mine tonight. I'm using it as an excuse to practice with Auxy and Auria, and I'll try and throw some Gadget and vocals in. Cyclop is still a possible purchase tonight, if so that'll end up on the track. I'm hoping to do something a bit more structured, rather than my usual alien soup.

  • Looking forward to hearing both results.

I'm gonna try and finish something this weekend. Then there's also an old track with me singing on it I might post (if allowed) for a laugh.

@Matt_Fletcher_2000 I love how every ten minutes someone suggests a different/simpler/more obvious wrinkle.

For the song I'll post I had loopy running in sync with my track playing....

Absurd as it is, I've never thought of doing this. Not sure how you're syncing it, but just playing something in the background on AS and then adding vocals in Loopy before copying them up and finding the spot in Auria is stupidly straightforward (in a lovely way :) for a few odd parts....thanks for this nudge.

  • I just play my track in Gadget. Then flick over to loopy.

Make sure the tempo in loopy is the same.

Hit the start button in loopy at the start of a bar. Then it's in sync...

Tbh I don't really get the general obsession with midi sync. 9 times out of 10 you can just hit start at the right time and apps are in sync.

  • No promises from me. I've been off the bus for a month packing and moving to an exciting new WiFi-less place. I have no ideas, equipment unpacked, or reliable connection. I'll try to do a one-day wonder and send it from a Starbucks on Wednesday maybe...

I am going to ask Mrs. Goodyear to make a nice needlepoint/tapestry thingie of this.

  • Auxy buttons seem very unresponsive when everything's loaded up, so parts weren't triggering when they were supposed to. Might be my usual farmyard/UFO mush after all.

  • Probably because you've got 4 synths running and midi data flying everywhere... :). Although one would hope that the Air2 could handle it.
