  • Thank you, that information is very valuable to me. Now I can run my emergency stage setup without Audiobus.

rabu42 if you go to system preferences and select Filtatron, you can set it to default to a USB audio device for input there, this should allow you use the Apogee as an input device.

  • That really breathed new life in filtatron, nice :)

  • this...yes ICA4+ is my set-up...

FYI, we were able to reproduce this with an iConnectAudio4+ device, which also exposes multiple audio channels (more than 2) and midi ports on the same lightning connector. When Filtatron is used in the effect slot of Audiobus, it crashes immediately. However when used standalone, Filtatron works fine.

We're now working with the Audiobus guys to see what the cause might be and how to resolve it.

I've tried with my Apogee One and Audiobus, and that works perfectly fine, I'll experiment with some other devices.

  • FYI we just submitted Filtatron 1.4.2 with the new Audiobus SDK that fixes the crashes with multi-channel audio devices.

    Hi everyone,

Filtatron v1.4.2 was just approved by Apple, it fixes crashes with Audiobus and multi-channel audio devices. Please let us know how it works out for you!

On a side-note, we started beta testing the next version of Animoog with a great group of beta testers, spanning a wide range of devices and iOS versions. We're planning to let the beta test run until next week to give everyone the time to really kick Animoog's tires. If nothing major occurs, we'll submit it to Apple. We're very hopeful this will be a smooth process since we did quite a bit of testing in-house also, fingers crossed!

    Take care,

    Geert

  • Yes!, thx for the little look in the future ;-)

  • I'm looking forward to that
Thanks for the update Geeert :-)

Thank you Geert. Just downloaded it an tested it - works like a charm. This transforms Filtatron from a toy to a stage instrument for me. Just great!

Thanks for confirming that this fixes your issue! Very glad that it's now working for you!

  • I really do like the sound of Filtatron. (I can jam forever with a filtered beat with delay and playing the VCO with release enabled).

I wish Moog would make a 'new' digital Synth (Preferably based on Sub37) as iMini is starting to show it's age :)

  • Would be nice if we could control Filtatron VCO level and frequency with the accelerometer for some theremin action. Of course I'm thinking iPhone only, it would look ridiculous with an iPad.

and not made by retronyms :)

why not just set up MIDI Designer to do this? works for me. But then I guess you are stuck with 127 steps for a CC binding... maybe not as smooth as a built-in accelerometer control?

I don't have the patience for that. I tried once with TB MIDI stuff but I wasn't very happy with it. I also tried controlling it with GyroSynth but I could only get one CC out of it and when controlling the VCO freq with it, it didn't sound as smooth as when you're controlling it within Filtatron.

I like this idea and added it to the list of future improvements to consider, no promises though!

Thats what I wondered about. I'd love to see this feature built into Filtatron

Sounds like something which could be done well with TC-data?

  • @GeertBevin Thanks for the update and for swinging by to keep us well, you know, updated. Filatron was one of my first purchases on the iPad, and this new iteration encourages me to go back and see what I can do with it now....

  • Forgot just have much fun Filatron can be, what a simple beast it can be as well, which is much appreciated. Johnny Like Big Buttons.

Interesting also to revisit apps that you've put in a box and then find a sudden new value. In this case, in tandem with a new rush of using samples in Bilbao, Filatron is a quick/good way to make things happen.

As an AB effect on something else or on its own?

I never managed to get much use out of it.

  • @Matt_Fletcher_2000 struggled with AB/IAA (through AS) but only spent a minute or two on it and presume user stupidity.

Used it with simple audiopaste on a vocal loop, got v. good results (especially twisting the output speed) and then straight into Bilbao. Worked well.

I also took an 8 second piece into Abu and much as I am sure I'm not getting the best out of that gadget I managed to very quickly get a beat boxing sound/riff I like (and I think you know me well enough by now to know it was not a straight version of 'beat boxing' whatever that may be).

    Good addition.

Cool. I will be stealing that Filtration idea.

Looking forward to hearing the beat boxing.

If you ever get bored, try messing around with and automating the pitches in Bilboa and Abu (as the sample actually plays). Also try simultaneously messing and automating the start time/length of a sample in Bilbao, while simultaneous wanging some massive delay in and out and also automating the pan... Just hit record, loop, and do one knob at a time. Great on vocal samples.

  • @Matt_Fletcher_2000 Will try that for sure. Although I rarely get bored (no time :).

@GeertBevin Just an FYI, I find that when I am in 'Sampler' and choose 'Menu' and then 'Copy' when I come back to the page it renders in portrait again until I flip the ipad up and back again. No big deal, just in case you're keeping track....
