I'm no great pianist, but I like the "classic grand" in Garageband. For those of us who can't buy every app that comes out anymore (oh, those were the days) some of us may already have a decent piano. It also layers well with other piano apps. No obvious phasing issues, but clear and beefy at the same time.
Thanks Guys, I have been saving to buy Module and Ivory, but the special price from IK multimedia is making the decision harder to make.
I will download the free version and check it out.
Thanks Doug for all your awesome review videos and expert advise.
@thesoundtestroom I'd love to hear some of the other Neos. I only bought one, which I love, but they're a bit pricey. Could be persuaded I guess
They just have, erm, soul.
besthawk's sounds really nice, I agree! but it is not very dynamic if that is important than module is a better choice (for me it is)
can't you try them all for free?
You can and I have, but not in the seducing style of Sir Doug...
OK Mr G it shall be so, early next week, I have to get SidTracker over the weekend, then on to Neo
yes! now we all have something to look forward to ...
Make sure you warm up some nice tea and get in a real musical mood Doug. NeoSoul Keys is like the perfect app made for your talents! Your last NeoSoul vid brought tears to our eyes it was so epic.
Tea? Collard greens and bourbon more like....
Question:
In iGrand expansion pack 2 is there a way to control how loud the Strings or Pads sound or if they sustain? or are they set as is. Like for example, if I'm playing the Piano and I stop, will the Strings sustain a bit or are they cut off immediately or abruptly? Thanks guys, I downloaded the demo app and it sounds really nice, but i had these couple of questions, cause when I saw Doug's video of Module, the pads and strings do sustain longer even when you stop playing the piano. THanks in advance.
Actually the one thing I don't like about iGrand, the piano and strings, no way to control the mix and if I use the sus pedal the strings will ring in forever, In general I'm not a big fan of preset layers, I would rather record things separately or at least have the choice of what sounds are layered
Thanks Doug. I really needed to know that because that is what I enjoy playing most. Piano with background pads or strings and I saw the video you made of module and that sounded so beautiful. I think you mentioned that you were able to control the mix in that if Im correct. I still think IK is beautiful sounding and an awesome deal if money is tight. I have a gift card that I want to use, but wanted to get the most of it. But since Module and Ivory is on special, I have enough to get it. Thanks!
I've always found a double shot of Jaegermeister does the trick before a performance. Takes the edge off and soothes the vocal chords.
I agree with Doug that the IK piano and strings are not the best, if this is what you're after, you'll already get better results layering the two in SampleTank
I'm so glad i downloaded the IK iGrand Free app. OMG! enjoying it so much and when I tried it with iM1, it sounded so incredible. I think I am going to go for IK iGrand guys. I cant stop playing it wth iM1. The pads and strings and the combis in iM1 along with iGrand is super music HEAVEN! Hope you guys like my little sample clip....
Hey, check out this track on SoundCloud: Musikman4Christ iGrandPadF+iM1 at USA!
I'm sharing it from the SoundCloud iOS app -- get it here, free: https://app.adjust.io/c1ofg4
Tea was a code word.
Tea is a code word. Course it only really works for us beatniks (ask your dad).
Got the IK Multimedia iGrand guys and I really love it!
Paired up with the iM1 pads, strings and vocal pads, this thing is so inspirational!
Question though,
Is iM1 and iGrand audiobus estate saving capable?
Haven't been able to figure it out.
That was a really nice track
I know I am probably alone on this, but, I will give this answer.
One KEY feature of my choice is price. I do realize that their are expensive ones that may be better.
Per price point, I think that the Grand Piano pack in Beat Hawk is really good. Along with the Epic Piano found in the EDM pack that comes with Beat Hawk purchase.
Sound quality is really good considering this isn't a "piano" app.
@RustiK please try out iGrand Piano Free. It's the same Piano with all the controls and audiobus. The paid version just has alternative piano types the sound a little different. Best free AB piano I think.
I make no compensation from IK, and I have no musical talent whatsoever...
I agree!
I almost kept the free version till I realized that I don't get all the Octaves. Which is fine cause it still sounds awesome!
So went ahead and got the full version. OMG!
I'm not a pianist but this app makes me want to be one someday.
So glad it went on sale.
late to the party but for me Neosoul keys for rhodes etc, iGrand for piano. Here's some iGrand
Very nice!
I wonder if an update to iGrand could allow the strings to be mixed on a separate channel. Its the second iap I think. There are some great pianos in there but just wish it was possible.
Other than that I'm really loving iGrand. The pianos are so realistic sounding.
@Musikman4Christ and @RedSkyLullaby - very nice playing, both pieces meditative and full of thought. No one would ever guess either track wasn't a real piano. Similar (and good) enough to make me wonder when the "Elton John/Billy Joel" style dueling pianos tour will commence![:) :)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)
I listen to these, and also to Doug's fine playing on his NeoSoulKeys demo and, almost regret becoming a guitarist rather than a pianist. That's why Module is such an important option in my book. I simply don't play piano even 1/10 as well as I can imagine it. It sounds great, and per Doug's suggestion of forgiveness, Module is the most forgiving option for composers like me, with the ability to - via Gadget - lay down one hand at a time, at half-speed if necessary, and fix any plonky notes in the sequencer afterwards.
I do like the sound of iGrand, especially well-played. For comparison, here's a sample of Module's "Bright Grand" preset featured in a track I recently submitted to the Song of The Month Club thread:
PLONKYMAN! (Everyone needs a super-alter-ego etc)
Oh, God gave me a gift. I plonk. I plonk very well![;) ;)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/wink.png)
