@Musikman4Christ I agree it'd be nice to have separate control of the piano and strings in the IAP. I achieve similar results by using iGrand and SampleTank together (iGrand for the piano obviously, and SampleTank for strings/pads).
A common workflow I use for my live setup:
In SampleTank, I select 4 string/pad patches and map them from channels 1-4.
Then I put iGrand on channel 5.
My keyboard doesn't have an OMNI mode, so I use Midi BreakOut box (https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/midi-breakout-box/id430125372?mt=8) to duplicate the MIDI messages from channel 1 to channels 2-5.
Then I use Midi Designer Pro (http://mididesigner.com/) to mix all 5 channels individually.
I was interested to hear Doug say that his favourite piano app was iGrand. So I revisited it today and have actually fallen for it all over again. Been using Module since it came out, specifically Ivory. But iGrand definitely made me smile. And that's how I measure everything that can't be measured with a ruler.
It makes me smile also, everytime!
Definitely iGrand is the most logical alternative . This is the piano that I bought it after my Yamaha Digital piano . Both of them are great musical instrument of mine .
I think you have reopen hot issue. Several new contenders since 2015. Interesting.
Does igrand piano free give a good idea of what it can do? I think I remember downloading it and removing it cause it wasn't as pleasing as my Casio ctk 3200 built in sounds
There are lots of fancy and expensive pianos for iOS, but for my taste, while I'm sure the other ones can do fancier things, the Upright Piano sample in Thumbjam is the most musically pleasing.
Has anyone tried any of the 3 iap pianos in SampleTank if so how do they compare?
I bought the Imperial Grand and I like it, I like the character of it. But its sound is thinner compared to the higher end pianos, I believe it is only 150 MB or so, and that makes it less rich in sound than the Ravenscroft or Ivory Grand. Still quite nice though.
As mentioned, I don't believe in The One, but amongst the handful that get a ride depending on the song, this one is most certainly one of The Ones....
to be honest, Collossus with their gimmicks and its ridiculous auv3 version is not among my favorites. the app feels very flawed even though some of its sound may be OK.
