Cubasis vs Auria update

So, I'm still waiting for auria pro to arrive.
Meanwhile Lars from Steinberg gave us this info.

"We have reached the release candidate phase with our upcoming Cubasis update that will include iOS 64-bit support, new features next to fixes/improvements for many user-reported issues."

  • So you're saying you want to purchase cubasis rather than auria?

I already have Cubasis. Going to buy auria pro probably when it comes. What I wanted to say is that the midi update for auria has been in development for months (a year?) where as steinberg has a steady release schedule. Their next update could be a nice surprise.

To be fair, Auria is coded by one guy. Steinberg have been in the DAW game for over 25 years and are owned by Yamaha - so their release schedule is driven by a bit more horsepower.

    I'd get both.
    Worth every penny!

At discount prices, a no brainer.

  • I hope Steinberg will fix the zoom-out function in Cubasis when you open pinch with two fingers; to stay focused where the playback head is, among other fixes.

  • I prefer Cubasis' workflow myself. That's just methough.

@Egz Where is this posted? I didn't see this in the Steinberg forums. Link me mate.

@Rustik THAT'S where I remember seeing you from. :p The Steinberg forums.

  • Everyone is trying to rush Rim to get auria pro out. May I remind of some recent apps rushed out to HUGE fanfare only to be riddled with bugs and missing features? Then everyone will start the "how could he release this without this feature" or "damn, did they bother to beta test this?" comments.

I have no connection to Wavemachine, not even as a beta tester. But auria does what it does now very well and when the update is out I'm sure that will work just as well. I am not super excited about midi to be honest, but the flexible routing is going to be awesome.

    Touché.

  • He did say it would be out in the spring, so I expect to see it no later than Saturday... bug-free, or not. :)

  • Touché , touchy, it's all the same...I beta tested one app and did not enjoy it. It sounds like fun to get the software earlier than everyone else, until you realize it doesn't really work correctly yet. An app released too quickly before it's ready will have the same effect.

  • On the other hand encouraging people to buy the current version of an app based on the promise that a major feature is coming "soon" with upgrade pricing becomes increasingly shady the longer soon drags on for.

  • @mrufino1 I'm with you on this one Lieutenant. We sit in the trench and we wait.

  • The Auria developer seems to have learned to not publicly set release dates, a mistake he made last year.

Sort of- we sit in the trench and make music with the tools we have currently- why wait?

  • I think there's a tendency to look to the future for the 'ultimate app', the app that will help us create great music, as opposed to working with what we currently have.

I had this mindset for a while, thinking that app 'X' would be perfect when it is updated, now I'm trying to make use of certain apps that currently do the job (within their limitations).

Auria Pro (or anything individual app) won't sort everything out and make iOS a perfect music making platform for one and all.

    Hi bsantoro,

While a lot of user-requested improvements and fixes will be included in the next update, we were not able to change the zoom behaviour due to the risk of possible side effects difficult and uncertain to estimate.

With iOS 64-bit support, new features and many user-requested fixes/improvements the scope was already more than packed and a challenge for the team to fulfil.

I am aware that a lot of users are less happy with the current behavior and promise we'll make sure to re-evaluate it.

Apart from that we're confident the upcoming update will include great stuff for our users...

Lastly to answer the unasked question upfront: The update will be free for Cubasis users.

    Best,
    Lars

    Hi jwmakerofmusic,

We did not post an official announcement about the upcoming update so far.
Same as in the past, the announcement (including further details) will follow once the update becomes available.

    Best,

While it is true that Steinberg is in the DAW business for quite some time, and the same for the fact we're owned by Yamaha, Cubasis is driven by a fairly small, spirited and effective team. Engineering is done separately and independently from Cubase.

That's a pity. The unpredictable nature of the piano roll touch interface is what puts a lot of people off working in Cubasis, that and the extra presses needed to add and remove notes. This is part of what makes Korg Gadget a joy to use.

Still, am excited for the other updates and would have happily paid for additional features.

    Hi Jocphone,

We hear you! Glad to hear you're excited about the update. It is worth the wait and will be free for existing Cubasis users.

    Best,
    Lars

I only wish Cubasis to have a best piano roll midi editor

    everything else are secondary matters

I thought it was just me.

I wish it had a Gadget like set up.

It is always so distracting and prevents on the fly editing.

Plus the weird up/down or right/left movement keys.

Has to be a better way to do it.

  • I'm quite fond the the sequencer/piano-roll editor in Yamaha Music Mobile Sequencer, it's pretty complete.
Wish Gadget had a 'linear-mode' that automatically moved between scenes while editing, that would make it easy to edit note across scene-boundaries.

I still use Cubasis for multi-tracking audio (that's why i wish it would have a sample-accurate editor).
Other 'good to have' features in Cubasis would be a built-in drum/synth sampler (with sampling capabilities) that could also use sound fonts. (I'd gladly pay IAP for a proper implementation).

Hello again mate. :D Nice to see you roaming the humble AB forums. Say, I've a question. When is the estimated timeframe of Cubasis' upcoming update? :) I've also another question. I know you can't reveal details, but will there be any new IAPs I should be saving my money for?

  • Soon... ;) ... no new IAPs with the next update.
