AppStore reviews- come on, help the devs out

For a long time it really blows my mind how reviews for music apps are almost non existent. If you love the app, leave a review right there in the AppStore..

It really helps developers to shift more units.

The AppStore is the most important place for reviews because it a POS ( point of sale )

To give u very recent and relevant examples, the two newest and most praiseworthy apps of late have ZERO reviews in the AppStore :

Lorenz synth by ice gear

Audiobus remote

Takes just a few seconds to say an app is great, those few seconds will likely inspire more sales and keep the devs churning out more apps..

  • Problem is there are already hundreds of good music apps! I do not want a bias mind to keeping writing a good complements! Instead I wish you all make a poll for what you want apple to do with ios music! That is more potent for the standard to come!

  • Bullshit

It's so easy to write a few words of praise for apps you love, it helps the developers tremendously

You want the apps, expect good prices and every damned feature conceivable and don't take into consideration the many hours, expenses and stress that goes into coding an app?

As we do is press purchase , takes ten seconds, then the app is ours and that does not come anywhere near to the sheer effort devs put it, especially considering the affordability and durability of the apps

Your answer has absolutely nothing to do with the points I made..

A few seconds to sincerely praise an app is no effort at all..

  • Judging by the fact that this thread only has 80 views and one comment is a real sad sign to be honest..

  • Hi.

From my perspective, as dummy-newbie-amateur music apps lover, the problen is not reviewing or not (you're right, it takes a little time), but the deeper you use the app. I mean, to me, as I said, most of the apps are easily five stars, not musician, no particular workflow needed, no desktop conne tion, I don't care about 16/24 bits or anything else...

Resuming, the problem to me is that in many cases it doesn' t show the average opinion of a particular app.

Not talking about another category of apps, like games, where devs offer extra levels or another stuff if you review five stars (sic).

  • I read the pages here a lot..especially when new apps come out

If the general enthusiasm expressed here can be condensed into a sentence or two for the new apps, it will help so much!

Even putting 4 stars..just saying "I love it", makes a huge difference..

  • While not an excuse I did tend to leave reviews more in the beginning but once I found that updates reset the rating my desire to do so decreased, although I still do from time to time. Most people probably use reviews to complain more than praise... I am probably guilty of that. Good reminder.

  • I review most if not all the apps I buy. Like AudioGus, once I found out about the review being reset/or wiped out, I stopped reviewing after every update. I've once again started again, because I do know it helps the developers out quite a bit. And, when ya click on review, your old review and rating come up, so it's easy to change a few words and send out an updated review.

  • @touchconspiracy you have made a good point. I admit I have fallen asleep and now when I get a new great app I spend so much time playing it that I forget the review part. I have become lazy, it's like not tipping a great waiter or saying thank you when someone makes your day. You're right, when I'm at home tonight I will start leaving reviews for all the apps I've accumulated, it's just a courteous and respectful thing to do nowadays. It's not too late for me to get right with my obsession.

  • For me I'm not prepared to review something, untill I've spent some tinm with it (I've had a few letdowns). By that time, I usually forget.. :-| thanks for the reminder though :-)

  • I've traditionally been pretty good about trying to review everything I buy (since developers always say it is important), but this thread is a good reminder to catch up on a few.

One issue I've always had with the App Store is how they wipe the slate clean with EVERY new update. You really have to dig for the "all reviews" button to find reviews on prior versions, otherwise, there are apps that are 5 years old but appear to have no reviews.

I'd like to suggest that dissing others music on here should be grounds for a warning from the moderators..

@touchconspiracy This was your response to somebody calling a posted tune "Bullshit".

I don't see how dissing somebody's opinion in the same manner is any different.

I do agree with you however that any extra help we can do for the devs could rewards us all with the evolvement of apps.

  • Even though the reviews get wiped every release, they are still there in All Reviews. It helps us a lot to be able to point to them, even if they aren't easily seen by people bopping around the app store.

I really don't bop around the app store. I mostly flop. or somethin. ;)

  • Lol, you keep tabs on all I say mate?

I said bullshit to the guy at the beginning of this thread cause he evaded the principle entirely..it was not a diss, I called him out for making excuses

I was not dissing something bad he done, I was calling him out on his avoidance on the issue at hand..

  • @touchconspiracy I agree with you 100% and it is something I haven't thought about. I also think that as a reviewer we have the duty of trying an app thoroughly before commenting. To write something an hour after you bought it is a diservice to the reader.

  • ^^^ ------- Yup, that's me.......... lol.....

  • As for reviews getting wiped with every update I believe one can copy and paste their review from under 'All Reviews' tab as mentioned and update if needed or just do the solid of re-posting.

Any app I didn't Review that's vanished leaves me feeling somewhat responsible (whether that's the case or not). Ouch.

  • I wish developers didn't need to rely so much on the ratings/reviews. I've seen plenty of, mostly game apps that have 100's of reviews, suspicious for being fake if you ask me. Really seals the deal when it's the only app some people have reviewed.

I wish ratings and reviews were MORE important in the app store. I wish users could sort by ratings. It is what it is.

  • If ifs and ands were pots and pans they'd be no work for tinkers though...

Touchconspiricy Okay I will bite, I have to say overall I do not like your posts because they usually have a barb (also a LOL for emergency use as your I was only joking card) considering you have only been a member here for a couple of months your posts have often annoyed me A LOT.
You take the moral high ground by preaching to every member on this forum while proving yourself to be our own forum village idiot because YOU yourself have not left a review for Lorentz (Yes thats how it is spelled) or Audiobus Remote,
My wish would be to see you agitate less (i.e. post less) but I think maybe you are too young to self moderate as shown when you twice needlessly interfered in my disagreement with ChrisG (hint: you were the only person on the forum to interfere) unfortunately I will probably need to remove myself from this wonderful forum because I have my own issues when it comes to calling people out and that is not fair on people who do not care for confrontation.
Oops I nearly forgot, It is absolutely and utterly none of your business how, when or if people post reviews on the apple store you attention seeking hypocrite.

Fair enough. I can sort by ratings at home on my pc, not so much on my pad or pod. that i know of.

How do you sort by ratings? If I, say, search for "drum machine" then choose iPad, is there a way to see all the results by rating? I'd love to know if I'm missing something.

  • I admit I've haven't left as many reviews as I should. And I do really appreciate the reviews big time!
They often are the last bit of decisional push to get me to buy the app. Other than the amazing videos Doug from the STR does.

But I really do believe we owe it to the devs to leave a good and bad review where deserved. Why? For those doing an awesome job, helps them get the app selling more hopefully.
For those not doing a great job, reviews might motivate them to do a better job.

Oh, my bad. I thought you were referring to once selecting a specific app, say Diode, I could see the reviews for said app by highest rating.

  • Lol

I'm not preaching, stating some hard facts...

For the record, I have not yet purchased Lorentz or remote yet and if I do I will surely leave reviews. I do not buy apps unless I'm certain I'm gonna use them with gadget. so you generally will see I don't bite with apps like many do

Being in a forum for a short period of time should not restrict one from stating their feelings clearly and honestly. If my tone upsets some, then I will gladly try to work on that because it is certainly not my intention to cause upset. However, I will call people out if I feel the need to do so, just like you are calling me out here.

Sometime confrontations are necessary despite their unpleasant nature, as that is how some things can get worked out or at the very least brought to the surface

I'm not going to take your order to post less, I will post as and when I need to. If the moderators of this forum think that is a problem, they are more than welcome to address that with me and I will abide by their decisions. Until such a time, I will address what I want to or start healthy discussions ( of which I've done a few times and have generated lots of comments)

You are always welcome to raise issues with me directly here, as is anyone else and I will LISTEN and DISCUSS them openly, I have nothing to hide or fear ok?

I'm not young though and have been using apps for years, my interest is in the longevity of apps and their uses, which is why I'm concerned about the lack of reviews in general, because I actually care about the iOS music scene..if devs don't make enough money, they will stop developing..and my opinion is that they could make far more cash sales if reviews were more prominent and if prices were raised slightly. But we live in an age where people say they will wait for a ten dollar app to go on sale before buying it?

You are welcome to bite anytime, but I don't taste nice lol, as you have indirectly admitted. As a long standing iOS app user and contributor toward the iOS music cause, I'd say anything related is my business, just as much as it is for any forum member here.

But I'd like to suggest one thing that might help you if I may: I hate rap music , so I don't listen to it , so if my posts annoy you, just don't read them..

Another thing is that negativity attracts a certain kind of response, you can preach to me about it but consider how you post too, because it attracted certain kind of responses from myself..

More than happy to hear from any forum member who has concerns about what I post and how and will take that into consideration very deeply because I certainly appreciate this forum. It is THE place for anyone into iOS music to hang out

    Cheers

  • Good reviews really help developers.

  • edited August 2015

I said to you before, you are mad! The person like you are easily hurt from you naive! I do not want to avoid review the apps as I sometimes did a review for I really like! Most often I see nothing from Apple for my reviews.

I must said one thing I actual observed, like @banjofran said, your hypocrite attitude is really not a safe person to be with in real world!

BTW, who say I don't give review? See photo of Flux;Fx, the kai97011106 is actually mine!

BTW, You should buy more apps to support all developers, I am not like you, you only can do is sticking to your Korg Gadget!

    You are bullshiting around, LOL!
