I am also guilty of not giving nearly enough ratings/reviews. It's easy to forget, because first I wanna get acquainted with the newly aquired App (latest example is Audiobus remote), to be able to make a statement that does make sense, later I'm either in "sessionmode", and don't wanna be bothered with giving reviews, or I'm not really thinking about the Apps in question. Thus, I think it's legit to be reminded from time to time to give one's opinion... . (my 0,05 €)
Guilty.
@sebastian how robust is the App Store reviews API? Any way you can gamify this to get us off our collective asses? Honestly, I know it's important and I simply forget.
Ok, 10 new reviews completed and/or updated. A lot easier/faster on a desktop computer.
Why don't u calm down? Stop verbally abusing?
You don't know me, who I am, what I do or have done..I own hundreds of apps dating back to 2008 and have made countless reviews.
You call me mad, and not safe to be around, based on what evidence? I'm not the one hurling abuse and accusing here..there is a vast difference in the way you and I are addressing these issues- I'm being polite, honest and my opinions are based on evidence, yet you are displaying anger and basing your assumptions about me on your feelings of annoyance on the way I write..
Use logic mate, common sense? Because from where I'm standing, it certainly isn't me displaying symptoms of madness here.
The test of a sane person is based on how they control their behaviour, thoughts and words..
Gah, I hate app store reviews. It's worse than YouTube comments. Reading 1 star reviews for Audiobus, Loopy, NanoStudio and Thumbjam makes me want to punch a puppy.
Which is missing this bit:
No way for devs to refute anything. Now way for users to refute anything. Seriously, so many of the one star reviews are so obviously user error that could be handled in 15 seconds with a 'reply' button (even if it were a private reply). No way that's not completely annoying and obtrusive to encourage people to leave reviews. Can't leave the same review for a new version—you have to edit it in some way and if it's too old (like my TJ review was, sorry Jesse!) it just wipes it out and tells you when you last reviewed it. No way to sort searches by rating. No way to see all of someone's reviews (is this a perma-one-starer I'm looking at). No way to ignore certain users. No easy way to see your own reviews or see if/how many people found it useful. No easy way to see which of your apps you haven't reviewed (or haven't updated a review). The whole thing is totally and completely broken. It completely sucks how much it matters.
I think, and I'm guessing I'm not alone on this, part of the reason I've grown lax in my review writing is that I do not look at app store ratings or reviews for music apps. At all. Ever. I find out about apps here or elsewhere on the internet and if I'm not sure I want it, I read reviews here or turn to YouTube.
This is a good thread, thanks for posting it @touchconspiracy
It was before people's views were described as 'Bullshit' and then they reacted like that...
So stop bullshiting around here. You forum members should start begin with thesoundtestroom supporting by you. I know you guys hiding and keeping silence when the support was needed by you!
Don't be shouting so loud supprt this and that! Guilty this and that! Bullshiting this thread!
Reaction? Come on! Touchconspiracy! No more with yours!
BTW, developers made money! No need your supports! You just buyers!
The really good friend in here is thesoundtestroom if you really care about a bit! Poor you!
Even though English does not seem to be your native language you're not exempt from the forum rules. I urge you strongly to behave and stop with the strong language and accusations.
Thanks, you are welcome! I am not the first to say so!
Reminds me of another thread, where an argument was started by the very same word.
It doesn't seem to be worth getting upset over.
Frankly, it's not worth it to do reviews. If I decide to spend my time doing reviews, I'll do it on my website where I can say anything I want and keep control of my text.
One exception from that are really bad apps, where it's a good thing to warn others away on the AppStore.
Lastly, thread creator, don't be so pretentious and try to guilt-trip people into doing things as if it's some sort of a moral duty to praise this or that app.
I paid money, I got some apps (most of which I don't use because the workflow is a PITA). It's a business transaction and I don't owe anyone anything.
Also not interested in reviews or ratings.
I just found out after years that for reading reviews I have to tap on all versions, but given the poor quality of the entries, I rather do without ...
Up until now I would rate if any then only full joy apps by sliding up to five stars, but I gather that's not reflected in the rating's numbers, without adding a name and text?
@crzyces: only Apple knows what the algorithm is. Once I took the time to review a crappy fitness app that was getting lots of good reviews, but actually recommended dangerous exercises and was also advertising the author's supplements.
All the shit 5 star "it's so awesome" reviews were displayed, mine was missing. In the end I don't even care any more, these ratings are designed to be manipulated and superficial, one sentence reviews are encouraged.
Once I read an article about a business in China which was using large batches of iPhones and Apple IDs to post fake reviews for a price.
I'd have to be a fool to spend time creating something of value only to throw it in the sea of crap called AppStore reviews.
All I heard from you got my whole hearted! Your comment is absolute my feeling about! That is why I suggest him to gather all important issues from you all forwarding to Apple to improve ios music standard.
Takes only a little of your time writing a review in the store. I try to review every app I have purchased and I'm mostly the first. Luckly we have the soundtestroom to check before before we buy new apps.
For the indie devs, who generally don't make a lot of money from selling their apps, good reviews are actually really valuable.
If writing reviews is too"exhausting"you can just click on the stars.Everything helps.
@touchconspiracy:i totally understand the reaction of some people.Your tone often reads a little arrogant,if not rude. Most often i feel a"bad vibe"while reading them.Your suggestion to ignore is not easy...how could we without an ignore list? But this forum usually just don`t need an ignore list,i would prefer to keep it this way.
@touchconspiracy
Next time consider others feeling (people) first!
After reading your titile comment! I have one thought! I do not want to review apps for reasons! I thought that if I give very good students a few praise! How about the rest? Your tone is for the best apps! I do not want to support their (developers) pride! Most developers on ios has hard earned money, I have emotions for them! Now days, Apple has made a unclear and uncertainty environments for music apps developers, So many issues on IAA, Midi, Connections, and so on! How can those little developers surviving? That is why I don't want confront to give reviews issue! You should take care of the youngs and elders!
No, my "tone" is for apps that people love, review those..if an app is useful say so..
Yep.
The simple point that a few have taken issue with due to misinterpreting my "tone", is that if you genuinely love and use an app, take a few minutes to say so. Personal blogs and sites have minimal traffic compared to the AppStore. And I rarely see negative reviews for music apps to be honest. If there is a negative review, then it's even more vital to counter with a positive one.
It's a case of expressing gratitude for the developers hard work..sure paying for the app is good, but with most indie developers, ask them..the amount of profit made is minimal..some only cover the basic costs of their projects. Some subsidise from their other work..and some go under..
It's a question principle..
@raz @Crabman @Sebastian Thanks for the clarification.
Now you talk like sheeps do, not like wolf! You so rude!
Listen, I am one of the public, I am not one of the musicians! I use AppZapp Pro to watch for discount, the reviews was so bad! I read John Walden reviews! Then I really rely on Doug and Jacob for the information and sounds provided on YouTube! Some from Tim Webb's. I then buy apps! I finally give Doug and Jacob 'Thumb Up' rating in addtion to any music app videos on the Tube! So this is the end with you, now! If against you more, I knew you will keep going debating! I never trust App Store reviews!
Periods!
note: For all forum users,
I am and I was and will to have my tears for only one thing in Audibus Forum! That is for @jakoB_haQ from TheSoundTestRoom! Jacob has said one thing in one of his Mini iPad 2 video! He was saving for half years of his earning from the donators' supports! I always remember that moment I could drop tears! My thought is If I were normal wealthy, I would deliver a brand new iPad Pro for my appreciation for him! So that is the answer for I Do Not Want To Give Top Apps Review On Apple Store!
I am in a philosophical mood when it comes to apps...
This need to write reviews is only partly about gratitude. The bigger deal is developers choosing a platform which:
In the end AppStore reviews become an alternative sort of currency that can be used to pay developers. The ratings and reviews are being manipulated to influence rankings, which can mean the difference between earning a lot of money or nothing at all.
I prefer to pay more and have an honest and direct business relationship, not one based on weird power dynamics and moral dilemmas.
Cheap apps always have conditions attached to them. Ads, tracking, popups asking for reviews, asking for reviews on forums, no or limited support, abandonment etc, etc. Or the developers start getting creative, they add cloud features, accounts.
Anyway, funny story: after changing the location of my AppleID, it now doesn't remember that I own any of the music apps I bought, so I can't even review them. If I try to "buy" them again, I at least get a popup saying I can download them for free. Pure incompetence from Apple.
It's not that we were free to choose this platform. There is only one touch based platform where one can do this, and that is iOS. Anything else is just worse, if not completely unfeasible.
"Once I read an article about a business in China which was using large batches of iPhones and Apple IDs to post fake reviews for a price."-----@Raz
I've read the same thing, somewhere, and seen plenty of evidence of it. Not with music apps, but certainly with game apps. You make some very valid points above as well.
I myself will continue to leave reviews/ratings because I do believe it helps the developers.
Plus, my reviews are so awesome, that they no doubt have a huge impact on sales. I mean they are the bomb digga D! Peace Out.........
You are still whinging at me, get over it. You don't like my writing, don't read.
this thread is a healthy discussion now, let it take its course, pick fights elsewhere
