  • FingerBeat is one of the Greats - Super fresh approach / a blast to use.

  • Not sure what to think here but I beta tested Finger Beat and after the beta expired got an email from the dev a few days ago telling me to go to the App Store and use the same Apple ID that I tested with and I would get the new version for free. I just did that and it appears I've been charged for it. Not sure what that's all about. Maybe I'll get a refund.

  • The email said users of 1.0, maybe there was an earlier version for sale? I barely tested anything so I didn't deserve a freebie.

  • Me too.
I guess we didn't beta test enough?

  • I went back and checked my email and it looks like I started beta testing v 2 so maybe that's why. I'll chalk it up to experience.

I know a lot people like this app but to be honest I probably wouldn't have bought it except I thought it was free. I haven't spent much time with it but it strikes me as one of those apps that's a bit too "toylike" which unfortunately I've bought way too many of. Oh well, you live and learn.

  • That makes sense. I think also started with 2.0. I like the app, though and I'll keep it.

  • I was a beta tester too, but like @rhcball, I didn't have the time to test, so I don't expect anything there.

  • Has some nice tricks, and I have no doubt someone could make a cool tune with it, but workflow-wise (beyond the tricks) it feels two or three years ago. Too much else on the table now perhaps...

Developer would do well to simply implement The List Of @Samu

This is very good. I am always on the lookout for inscrutable things to say my to my soon-to-be-thirteen year old son. The next time he gives me the whole Why? thing or What I do now? I will look at him steadily and say very quietly The List of Samu and then walk away.

  • This is one of your finest entries Mr JGY.

  • Yes, I was beta tester as well, but most of ideas (skins, etc.) was already covered.

And I had to read the email several times because at first time I understood the same but I finally realized the free update was for 1.0 users.

Nice app, but too many drum machines.

  • I beta tested it too. Missed that bit when I'd get a freebie so I didn't get that pleasure. Wasn't sure I wanted the app after beta experience either. It is a fantastically tactile piece of kit but every section has a separate menu which absolutely drove me nuts. And that untidy export wraps up this non-deal for me.

  • Yes, one screen apps like Samplr are rare masterpieces.

Funny, and maybe because Sir Doug reposted TSTR's vid, but I found myself headed back to Samplr after giving Fingerbeat the finger (in the nicest possible way). This happens to me a fair amount; I spend a few shekels on a new app and it leads me back to appreciating something already in the band room all the more.....whatever it takes....

  • This is so good.

  • It's too bad there's no MIDI support.

  • We'll see what will happen, I feel most features will be in place sooner or later...
I got my 'freebie' and suggested the dev would also send codes to others, don't know if that's been done yet...

So many apps, so little time :D

  • FingerBeat has just been updated. It can now export 'perfect' loops and can optionally bake in the tailing samples into the beginning of the loop. It also automagically bakes in the bpm into the export-filename among other smaller fixes :)

  • And the Tape records in stereo now.

  • Thanks FingerBeat Devs, I like this update.

  • No code as of yet Samu.

  • @studs1966 I got my 'code' the day FingerBeat 2.0 was released...

'Perfect' Loop Export and 'Stereo Recording' were on the list I sent way back.
The Tape was already in 'stereo' but external recording (mic / line-in) was Mono.

Consistency checks mainly focus on the menus and stability as it was as an example too easy to accidentally select an option, especially when using export feature as it was some times necessary to 'scroll' and scrolling immediately selected the option under the finger, also reported before release, same with pad-drag bugs. They forgot to remove the dedicated 'iCloud' export as it's redundant when the iCloud Drive is present. I guess it will be removed in the next release :)

So I can definitely feel that they are working on the long list step by step and that's good :)

  • FingerBeat 2.1.1 update with added support for iOS9, Audiobus & Remote has been sent to the AppStore.

Really nice hoping it will go thru fast :)

  • Ah great news Samu! Loving FingerBeat.

  • @Proppa It's hard not to like FingerBeat and I know it will only get better.

I mean even the loop export has a 'mix-tail' to create perfect loops and the things on my 'long list' are ticked off one by one :D (Still missing is the option to temporarily play a pad/slice in reverse).

The 'tape-deck' is the only place to edit and trim the samples or 'record samples with tape-effects' for now but I suspect this too will change over time to include more editing options.

I love how fast it is to just sample some stuff and knock up a beat :D

The 'pads' are super flexible too and can play 'chords' when needed. (Just go to piano as press as many notes as you like and the pad/slice will remember it). This way it's easy to create bass-lines too, just set one pitch per slice with the same sample and boom.

FingerBeat may look like a 'toy' but there's a lot of depth to it :)

  • @Samu couldn't agree more. A few implementations and it'll be There but from the word go I knew me and FingerBeat would be good friends.

  • I also did a lot of beta testing and sent several letters to the developer regarding the timing.
Never once got a reply. So i thought wtf?
The timing divisions time signatures and bars etc..some got fixed, but did it get fixed completely?
