Beat Twirl looks interesting. It would be nice if it could save directly to iCloud Drive or DrobBox instead of AudioCopy and paste. It was last updated December 2013; so that worries me.
BeatHawk reads .caf files directly from iCloud Drive; so, I would be looking for a wave editor/slicer that can save directly to iCloud Drive.
Have any of you with an Apple Mac tried the free Apple Loop Utility? I tried it briefly, and it appeared to work; but I not sure of all the controls. If Beat Twirl really works, then it would be an all iOS solution.
I need to look at Nano. Agreed that some improvements could be had with Hokusei.
Actually CEVS from the dev who created Caustic is pretty cool. It's made to be used with the Volca Sampler but it still has some great features as a standalone editor.
In the next version of Caustic sampling will be stereo (finally) and this editor will be integrated. I'm really looking forward to it.
Caustic is still my go-to all-in-one music app.

PS - CEVS is free!
Nice one, thank you. Will check it out.
I love the Dev's Mitosynth and Grain Science, but Hokusi can definitely be maddening for exactly this reason. Twisted Wave wins this bout.
Ha! @Syrupcore
From 2013: https://forum.audiob.us/discussion/comment/6509
Wow, CEVS is very good. Especially for zero bucks! Has the Audioshare API for quick back and forth. Vertical zoom would killer and it seemed to want to help a bit too much with selecting when zoomed far out but for basic editing, normalizing and fading it's feeling pretty great on first blush. Plus it has a bunch of Caustic effects built in + a spectrogram + C-sfxr tone generator.
I'm not sure if it's possible but it would be sweet if Audioshare allowed us to choose a default audio editor and presented 'open in _____' as a fixed button. Mainly not sure if apps can be opened that way. @j_liljedahl?
Bahaha. I'm more consistent than I thought.
@syrupcore Ha, me too!
Also, that snap to tempo feature we both asked for that Jonatan put in Audioshare gets so much use. Seems crazy it wasn't implemented elsewhere before.
Upon further investigation Beat Twirl (the iPad version of it) does almost everything I need. So thanks again @BiancaNeve for pointing it out.
(iPad version only) exports multiple slices as a zip file of wavs that can be 'opened in' audioshare, Dropbox etc.
if you bring in a perfect number of bars it allows you to create exact fractional splits (by turning the transient detection sensitivity off completely and using the split function)
this is all great for that trick with recording 8 bars (or whatever) of music then splitting into 4x2 bar samples for import into Gadget.
allows you to add some gain as an FX (always useful)
the transient detection seems very good on drums etc
It's a slight shame you can't move to slice markers with your fingers for big adjustments, you have to use a wheel device which is great for fine nudges but takes a lot of scrolling for big jumps. But it's workable.
Max file import length is a 90 sec chunk. Which again is very workable.
I can see beat twirl plus audioshare being nice partners.
anyone else use the Caustic volca sample editor? it's just so fast and easy-
>
Thanks for the report Matt and thanks to @BiancaNeve for the original skinny. A good solution for an exact split for sample import into Gadget is no small matter.
Interesting that the same dev (Guy Shaviv) also puts out Beat Time which was last updated at the end of May. I wonder what his comment/outlook on Twirl is at this point and moving forwards?
For big adjustments it's quicker to put a new split or 2 in and join as necessary
@anickt,
Cheers, CEVS is really good ! I'd never heard about it before.
Does anyone know how to get in touch with this developer? His Developer website link on the App Store gives an error.
@bsantoro Try the links on this page. I'm pretty sure Thomas is back from his vacation by now as the reply times are a lot faster now compared to what they were a couple of weeks ago
http://twistedwave.com/support.html
Thanks @Samu for the info. I was more interested in contacting Guy Shaviv for Beat Twirl development. Since he hasn't updated Beat Twirl since Dec 2013, I wonder how responsive he would be for future updates?
I am particularily interested to see if Beat Twirl could be a wholly iOS solution for creating sliced .caf files; which can be saved directly to, and read from my iCloud Drive. Then BeatHawk and AudioShare can read them directly from the iCloud Drive.
@bsantoro would love to hear any feedback you get on this, plus or minus....
I asked for some 'slice-features' for TwistedWave, no reply yet.
Maybe we'll get the features sooner or later as it's already possible to export *.caf from TwistedWave and set 'markers' so what would be neat would be 'auto-slice' to 32nd/16th notes based on bpm and things like that...
What he said.
You can already do that. With a work around. You just need to turn the sensitivity off and use the 'split' function. It will split into halves and then halves again etc. So you can do 16ths, 32nd etc. Its pretty quick.
If it saves the markers into the .caf then that's cool. (I've not tried). Then into audioshare etc...
I bought Hokusai when it first came out. Struggled with it for ten minutes and said, "are you shittin' me?" With all of the accepted interfaces in use on this planet to choose from to emulate, this app has the worst interface IMO. Even worse than Anaphopia, (don't even go there.) Can't get refund on "free" though so... Maybe CEVS or Beat Twirl will do the trick , but Auria and Multitrack DAW currently do what I need.
I know I sound like a dick, but if your a dev and can't make a clean logical interface, then chances are you're not able/willing to support it or listen to feature requests.
Whew. Thanks I feel better now.
@bsantoro
Not sure if it's current but you could try [email protected]
Edit: @j_liljedahl: in 'Trim and Fade', when You Zoom in in Audioshare to a track, and you wanted to stop at a certain point - And release the finger - no Zoom in again? You see? thanks, . . . on a sidenote, ah nvrmnd, greetings.
A yes, with 'snap to grid' and looping enabled. Cheers.
I'm not the developer of AudioShare, that is Kymatica (Jonaton Liljedahl).
Updates are way too slow though. Really wish it got updated faster cause its an awesome app!
Single Cell Software is just one guy so it's understandable.
I think he's a genius.
Caustic 3.2 should be out pretty soon. (I hope!)
Sorry. Greetings;)
In my curiosity, I'm still looking at all the iOS editors, even though I'm pretty happy with Twisted wave.
Before I delete it, does anyone know how to import audio into Wavepad ? I've just got the free version currently, but it seems to be 'record only' with no way of importing audio otherwise -which seems pretty daft !
