This thing is amazing. In love all over again. It jhas such a unique sound that is undeniably its own. Just going through the presets, I favorited a fair number and realized having that consistent Animoog sound could be perfect as the only synth on the album for the type of guitar-driven pop music I’m doing (in the vein of everything from 1977-1983, with a touch of later 80s Def Leppard hair ballads in there). I like to keep albums consistent with instrumentation and tones throughout.

Aye. I am on board and loving it…

    Just an observation. 😊

I get a day of untethered music making from a full charge on my iPhone SE (using Drambo, Model 15, Loopy Pro etc.) Z brings that down to about 2 hours.

It is good that people are mentioning the power issues. Hopefully Moog will become aware of the problem and tweak it for version 2.

It really is a gorgeous synth on all levels. Bodes well for the future of Moog software.

I spent a lot of time on trying to get my presets in! I had to move the compressed Animoog zip file to Audioshare (just to get it out of the Animoog directory) then I deleted Animoog (the horror!). Then drag and drop worked for me. I had Animoog Z open in the background. Then I dragged the zip file to the corner and the icon changed to Animoog Z and up it popped.

But don’t delete Animoog unless you are sure you have copied your presets somewhere different!

  • All this dragging and sharing uses the share sheet list, so if it’s screwed up, you have to delete, delete, delete, which is frankly insane, all because zip importing is common to a lot of apps, if AZ allowed split screen that may work for dragging.

  • Power draw is definitely showstopper for me... Haven't used such heating ipad apps for a long time. Hope the @MoogMusicInc team will do something with the optimization in the future :'(

Does the power drain go down if you reduce the polyphony setting?

Defefinitely getting some heating as well. I forgot to close AUM with AZ loaded and my ipad plugged and didn't come back for like 5 hours. My ipad could softboil an egg!

You might if your primary usage was on a phone away from the house. There are such critters I’ve heard.

    +1!
They’ve swapped an IAA with low cpu for an auv3 that I would never use (and locked the buffer setting)
Forward step for app design but they need to apply some practicality to this.

People keep saying that about the buffer setting, but I see multiple buffer settings available. I think that’s a bit of misinformation.

I can't say for sure 'cause it's hard to measure when experimenting and switching presets, but at first glance there is no or little difference

I stopped deleting apps after the 5th app, as i wanted to keep the others listed - so i still don‘t have Animoog Z in my Share sheet. At that time luckily some AB folks discovered an alternative solution:

    • Copy the Animoog.zip into the iCloud folder of Animoog Z . Wait for the upload to finish
    • Drag the file to the lower right corner of the screen
    • This will bring up a gray rectangle with an Animoog Z icon in its center
    • Dropping the file on that rectangle will start the import process
    • After importing finished sucessfully, you can delete the Animoog.zip

Moog already announced an update that will offer a different method of preset importing.

  • Great synth. Wasted opportunity ?

Seems like the original were copied over as an auv3. So scaling of app is worse than most apps. You cant really use other mpe apps because of scaling. Would be best for me if I can route mpe midi from ipad to ipad. Or if the moog z keyboard were like swam apps. It doesnt change note until you release a note ( or because swam keys are bigger ) Scrolling the moog keyboard just isnt usable like swam keyboard.

Maybe its where I never used animoog. Or everyone has mpe controllers. People just seem concerned about sending presets from animoog.

Would buy the presets if theres some advice on how to use app better.

It's available stand-alone on my iPad 6. Of course it's not available in the AUv3, since buffer size is determined by the host app. Maybe iPhone is special? Yes, as it says in the manual.

Something against iPhone users I guess 🤷🏼‍♂️
So if it’s locked to 256 in stand alone it would or wouldn’t take on host setting? Possibly by the by anyway due to battery/cpu requirements

What a CPU and battery killer!

Almost 2x Model 15 even in 4 voice mode.

Yep, that's what's stopping me buying the IAP at this point. It does sound amazing but battery killers don't get a place in my setup. May well be fixed in an update - maybe to lower the refresh rate or find ways to make GUI redraw more efficient.

I did many tests with Gadget, which also suffers from a similar cpu heat/battery drain.
As mentioned by @craftycurate GUI/refresh rate play a big role in this, much more than the audio, etc.
In case of Gadget it differences per screen (playing an animated gadget with the piano-roll above it is the worst).
Korg have never been able to reduce it significantly and from reports I’ve seen newer devices (M1) are affected as well. GUI seems to use max available resources per device.

For anyone using the MacOS version just drag your zip file to the Animoog Z icon in your dock to import your presets.

  • So no one else is noticing Ableton Link overrides when changing sounds? Is there a setting I'm missing then?

Its ok now actually. Not as fun as my dual mononoke to controller setup ( I think from before ) but this sounds better ( plus there might be mappings also )

The bpm is saved in each patch, so if you use standalone the tempo changes when you change the patch (this makes sense for patch editing, which is one of the main use cases for standalone). If you load it in AUM the bpm won't change when you change patches, I would think, haven't tried it. Or did I misunderstand what is happening?

    Makes sense...thank you!

I was running it standalone to maximize the size of the keyboard but thank goodness they left it in the AUv3 design. In fact, if there was an option to hide the rest of the interface and just leave the keyboard, I'd control everything with it! I might do that anyway... 🤣

I know what you mean - I have frequently been using a Model 15 instance to control everything when playing onscreen (slightly better Animoog keyboard than Animoog OG in my opinion).

  • Ok...my iPad right now is only a Animoog Z machine.

I don't open any other app since Tuesday.

    Thank you @MoogMusicInc

@wim: the buffer limitation is on the iPhone. I am guessing that you are seeing those options on an iPad not an iPhone. Is that correct?
