Should I buy the reverb? I already have a douzen of reverb, but I like reverb. If the reverb is good I will buy it.

The reverb certainly does not sound bad, but whether it will add anything for you who knows! The UI is a bit on the rough side, so that may not appeal. Unfortunately I’ve not used it enough to find something it does that the fistful of other reverbs I have don’t cover. I’ve not done a full mix with my iPad, as a confidence reverb for tracking my go-to has been ADVerb due to a combination of liking the sound and it being easy to use.

I love Cube Synth Pro. Probably my favourite synth on iOS for creating my own presets. Quite unique too - not just another virtual analogue synth. Wish there was a VST version

I’ve seen AudioLayer mentioned here and there, but I’m struggling a bit with comprehending what makes it special/better/different than other sampler apps. Would anyone be up for explaining that or why they enjoy using the app?

The main advantages for me, compared to other iOS samplers:

    • A fairly good sample mapping editor
    • Live streaming from disk so instrument size isn't limited by available free RAM
    • Crossfade loops
    • Reads sample program formats for which quite a number of free instruments are available
    • Optional free download of additional intruments from Virsyn without bloating the app if you don't want them

It also has quite a number of annoying limitations but hey, it's not a desktop app and costs a fraction of them. iOS music making is all about finding ways to overcome such limitations 😉

The crossfade looping is real-time/interactive which makes it very nice to use.

I think the filters sound pretty good too.

Crossfading loops was the main reason for me as well. Feels like the better sampling app for traditional functions like assigning different files per range or velocity, and non-exclusively.

  • idk if this is unique to audiolayer, but I liked that I could take a sample of a single note/pitch, and it would fill out the rest of the octaves. I couldn't figure out how to do that in Cubasis' mini sampler as it seems I need to assign a specific sample to each key.

  • I am still on the fence with ReSlice. I've been looking at demos on YT, and it doesn't seem to fit with what I'm trying to do at the moment (generated rock music). Maybe I just lack imagination lol

Audio Reverb is great. I use it all the time. Just one example:

It is an absolute steal at that price. Worth every penny at its regular price. I am also a reverb freak, and consider it to be the best “normal” reverb.

It doesn’t do anything special but it is a very great sounding standard reverb. I used to use it all the time until the Toneboosters reverb became my main one

@AlexY Any sampler can do that, even the barebones MiniSampler: Just drag the left or right edge of the note blob above the keyboard to make the sample span the desired key range.

@JeffChasteen I would say Sparkverb is better but to each his own 😊

I think the filters sound pretty good too.

Also crossfading the "zones" (= crossfading samples assigned to neighbour keys combined to crossfading samples assigned to neighbour velocity of a same key) is excellent.
There are some features I wished that were also included (like all the enveloppe modulation possibilities of AddStation) but the real "big" missing feature is sample time-streching. Other than that, I can only highly recommend AudioLayer at that price.

Arriving from the direction of an Emulator 4 I’d love more choices for modulation between layers - the E4 series can do this both at note on and real-time. The equal power crossfade in AudioLayer would be better in many cases than linear which is the only E4 option.

  • Ref the Virsyn Reverb, it has a character of its own and at the current price, it’s a no-brainer. Sure it’s not got the flexibility of the Fabfilter reverb, but the Virsyn costs far less.

  • A few from Klevgrand
