    Hi all,

Unfortunately the recent Cubasis 3.4.2 updates introduced a problem, where the "templates" and user folders are missing after the update has been installed.

We've already submitted Cubasis 3.4.3 hotfix updates to Apple, which will be publicly released once approved.

    We apologise for the inconvenience.

    Stay safe
    & best wishes,
    Lars

Apparently, this is only a glitch inside the code and not a destructive action on the folder system and hopefully, we will get back our folders and also Templates folder after the fix.

I never checked the file system of Cubasis 3 (I use v2 more often) and before I checked it today, my folders were already gone due to the update! I thought if they implemented a virtual file system, they could restore the lost folders from the app’s database. Apparently, they implemented physical folders, so they are gone irretrievably. But they should be able to restore the Templates folder.

One other issue I’ve run into upon updating is that my all my project folders were deleted (I organised my projects by year and month, with folder names being 2201, 2202 etc). All the actual project files are fine though - upon first starting the app with the new update a notification appeared saying a number of files were imported to the media bay. All the files are now just sitting in the base Project folder, which isn’t the end of the world but it’ll take me a bit of time to reorganise everything.

This sounds strange. Please close all apps including Cubasis and fully shut down the iPad. Does the problem remain when relaunching the device and Cubasis?

    Best,
    Lars

I‘ve lost all my projectfolders too.
    This makes one very angry
Restart of the iPad did not help.

And there are still no gridlines behind the tracks for better editing…

@LFS I am beginning to suspect you are not testing enough

    Hi @Iskander,

    Thank you for your message.

We are sorry to read that you experience issues with the current update, which will be shared with the team.
Adding the option to show the grid above the tracks is on our list!

@LFS I am beginning to suspect you are not testing enough

A DAW is complex and includes many features. Be assured that we spend lots of time on alpha, beta and release testing (including external testers who support us). Nevertheless, it is nearly impossible to keep software free of issues unfortunately. But we keep up trying to improve Cubasis with every update release.

    Best,
    Lars

@LFS Testing changes alone is not adequate which is why such issues are creeping to the point even features that were working perfectly fine for years/forever are getting broken frequently for no reason (eg: this folders issue, drum pad layout issue…). Testing involves only verifying that the tickets are resolved but not what other additional changes were made to the code and no amount of testing will cover this aspect. You should enforce code reviews by peers which will prevent such hiccups from occurring altogether as peers will review ALL the code changes that were made and also compare the code between previous version and current version for diffs. Obviously, code reviews are not in place on your project.

    @LFS
Please have the Playhead Scrubbing issue resolved - it is making Cubasis 3 unusable for many due to the cacophony it creates from scrubbing ALL the tracks. It should scrub only the current track like it does in v2 - or as suggested here -

It is still unclear how they were able to blow off the folders only while keeping the files inside those folders intact! Is it even possible technically? Unless it is a virtual file system implemented using a database or if it is physical folder system and unless they move the files from each folder into the project root and delete the folders or unless they copy the files inside the folders to another location, blow off the folders (along with their files) and then move the copied files to the project root. Why would any dev do that?? What’s the benefit of doing that? This is the reason why I thought it was a virtual folder system where folders can be eliminated from the database that will not affect the physical files inside those virtual files. If it is a virtual folder system and it is just a rendering issue, they can be restored by rendering them properly; but if they blew off the virtual folder records from the dB, they are gone!

Is it possible, to create the lost folders with the FILES-app and move the projects (more than 100…) or have you to go the hard way, to create folders and move the projects inside CUBASIS?

  • Updated.

All of the tracks I’ve tested so far seem to be okay.
I only had a couple of subfolders which haven’t been restored
but the tracks themselves seem to be okay also.

    Hi @MobileMusic,

Please note that we've just released Cubasis 3.4.3 which resolves the problem that "templates" and user folders were missing after Cubasis 3.4.2 update has been installed.

Thanks for your message which have been shared with the team.
Here comes the feedback from our engineering:

"There is no virtual file system and no database, this issue has another cause. When you copy something into the "Cubasis 3" directory, Cubasis automatically sorts it (a project file, folder or zip file into the Projects folder, an audio file into the Audio folder, etc.) Now there was the special case that users copied a folder (without .cbp extension) that contains project files into the "Cubasis 3/Projects" directory (instead of into “Cubasis 3”). The plan was to move such folders one level up in order for them to be sorted automatically again. This is what went wrong, all non-project folders were moved up, not just newly imported ones. Sorry again for the mess that this caused for some of you."

    We apologize for the inconvenience!

    Stay safe,
    Lars

"Yes, creating a Folder inside the Projects folder and moving Project (.cbp) folders via the iOS Files app is possible. Quit Cubasis before you do that, just to be on the safe side."

    Sorry for the inconvenience!

  • @LFS I’m still getting issues while using airpods. when I have my airpods in, i select them and engage the airpods bluetooth setting in the audio menu. everything seems to work fine. i can reacorda some audio and midi tracks. and then close the app. When i open the project back up. the tempo says 120bpm. but the click and the audio playback is super slow, like 10bpm? there is something g weird going on. i’ve disabled and enable abelton link checked and changed. buffer setting. nothing fixes it. and my Iphone is brand new as of a few months ago.
anybody else’s have this happening to them?

    Hi @eross,

Please use the following steps to use Cubasis 3 with the AirPods Pro:

    • Please connect your AirPods Pro to the iPad
    • Launch Cubasis and go to Setup/Audio and enable “Bluetooth / AirPlay” by tapping the corresponding button
    • Please go to Setup/Project and choose (or reselect) the matching sample rate of your project.

    On a side note:
Please note that connecting wireless headphones bring lots of system-related latency, which will make it hard to record instruments in real-time.

    Hope that helps!

    Best,
    Lars

    that works.

  • Would it be really annoying if I said I went on holiday for a week and didn’t open Cubasis 3 at all. My son made me play Minecraft with him constantly! So I got the 3.4.2. update but never used it and then 3.4.3. landed as we were arriving home. Back in the studio yesterday, opened up Cubasis 3 and all is sound.

On the subject of Ableton Link, I’ve found it good practice to leave it switched off if you’re not using it. Since 3.4.0. I’ve encountered the occasional glitch where Cubasis 3 ( with link switched on but not connected to anything) will alter the tempo of the track when you open a project. When it does this it moves all the audio to fit the new tempo and it can’t be undone with undo. This has never happened to me whilst link was disabled. The fix though, is easy. I’ve shared this with a lot of people and it has worked for them. If this problem occurs, immediately deactivate Ableton link, close Cubasis 3 and restart the app. Everything will be corrected. If you don’t do this and start pissypanting around with it trying to fix your audio etc, the opportunity to reset as described above is lost.

Yes, I can switch it back and fix it…
…it would be nice to be able to use the same inspector zoom widgets in tablet mode too to quickly resize the tracks instead of pinch-zoom gesture.
