I currently own Designer but will go for Photo as well, it’s a good deal. Designer is a bit of getting used to after so many years of Adobe. I still have the old Photoshop and Illustrator on my Mac before they went all subscription, something… all their marginal upgrades during the years I said goodbye to them, lots of alternatives.

The 3 apps are definitely a fantastic deal ; today, at 89€ for the universal licence it's just nut… but, if Designer and Photo are more than capable to make me switch, Publisher (which I can't stand how layers are implemented) is still really too far from Indesign for my needs.
In facts, Inkscape and Gimp can also be enough for me… and Scribus could also compete, all 3 for free, but when being productive is important, Adobe is still the king.

I used to use Illustrator and Photoshop quite a bit and Affinity’s offerings are not full-fledged replacements. For the majority of tasks I use them for today they are mostly adequate, if not absolutely maddening at times. If a complex job ever comes my way again, I’ll probably rent from Adobe for a month instead of deal with Affinity’s limitations.

I think the same, like many of my colleagues. In our daily job, the CS6 is still more than enough to have the job done. Nonetheless, new features in Photoshop are top notch.

I'm working with photo processing a lot and regarding photo denoising and upscaling, Adobe is losing ground compared to DxO labs and Topaz, as they're taking more conservative and often less effective approaches to AI usage, which isn't necessarily bad (AI can be a little too inventive/fake at times).
For quick photo editing (levels, color corrections, simple sharpening), Pixelmator Pro has been useful as well, and it supports a lot of raw formats even from less "pro" cameras.
It really depends on the use case.

The Freq Shifter is like Sonic Charge Echobode and worth the price, imho.

oh thanks for mentioning that and putting it on my radar, Echobode is one of my all-time favourite VSTs!

edit: just watched some of the dev's videos for this on Youtube, sounds lovely but some upsetting comments seemingly from the dev himself below the vids...hope he takes care of himself

So I tested this a little bit (testflight link in app description) and I think Moogerfooger 104 is much better FreqShift/Delay.

You mean MF-104S Analog Delay or MF-107S FreqBox? I wasn't aware either of them ventured into the same territory, but that may be mostly due to my lack of awareness. Echobode is my gold standard. I bought the JAX mostly based on what it might be in the future and that every parameter is exposed. The UI needs a little work.

I meant what I wrote: 104, not 107 which I didn't write😂😂😂 Try it if you own it, much easier to get good result than the Jax in my VERY short comparison. Yeah I've been glancing Sonic Charge EchoBode but it's a bit expensive.

Yes, I read what you wrote so no need to be snarky about it, but since MS-104S is a bitbucket delay and alters pitch but not frequency, you had me confused thus the request for further explanation. For some definition of results there may be overlap, but not a fair comparison.

@kidslow did you find with the JAX freq shifter some popping noises when moving the frequency knob?

I have experimented with Topaz for old/damaged photo restoration. Although it cannot "fix" everything, the face restoration and detail 'invention' part of their software can yield some genuinely impressive results. I'll probably spring for the still photo version of Topaz at some point, not the video version (which I'm sure is probably also quite good).

Same here. And the dials move a bit slow. Tried it on several stuff but haven’t found a use for this freq shifter.

  • I like the sound, it's an interesting experimental tool, potentially great for drone, but those clicks are unacceptable to me

Hey I have a video that shows this in use: https://youtu.be/1rTMdDrO5YM - you can now send miRack patches to Holon and control them with movement and location data, the video shows a few such presets (10 are included in the app).

I didn't but I haven't had a chance to push it or really even play extensively. I got slammed by some work and just catching back up with the rest of life. I will check on the ipad and macbook. Didn't notice anything about the dials that put me off either. I like slower dials rather than too fast ones. I complained about the fuzzy fonts and some UI oddities. I think he's using a vision pro dev environment for the 3D UI.

Alas, I believe this is only supported in the payware Holon.ist app. (Correct me if I’m wrong)

What I do find interesting is that when you hit the freeze button in the upper right corner you can 3D rotate the unit and place it in any position you like.

I freaking LOVE this feature. Makes it look like old Admiral Quality VST’s from way back.

I usually buy cross platform apps since I still have an intel mac and do my production on desktop, but I'm really tempted. This and Combustor...

Agreed! With some of the best sounding filters I’ve ever heard ANYWHERE…. Dagger is amazingly good!

And it’s no wonder… it’s by BeepStreet! (maker of Drambo, Sunrizer, Zeonn, Combustor, and more)

Did some more noodling this morning and what I found is that certain sounds will click (call it a pop) when you move the Frequency knob across the zero bound either left or right. I think it might be related to the transients. Doesn't seem to be dependant on how fast you move the knob, but completely on the sound coming through. Pairs well with Pure Acid.
