Love it. I’ve had way more than a tenner’s fun with this already - great if you make loops and never finish a song.

Only niggles are that dealing with tempo seems to be a bit of a very minor pain where it’s locked to presets, and also won’t go below 60bpm. Doesn’t follow host clock on my very out-of-date iPhone 7 either, regardless of settings.

The bpm/host clock problem will be fixed in the next update. But I am not sure if I can go below 60bpm, which has to do with the Tap algo, will check.

No, nothing is playing. I have added some screenshots to make this clearer. The third step is selected but the note entry is changing the first step.

Thanks for the further explanations and screenshots. I might have found the bug.
    The workaround for now:
-If you want to record while playing, make sure the host clock is running. You activated the play button but not the host play, which is why it is stuck on the first step. In the update, the record function will only switch to "rec while play" when the host clock actually runs.

  • What do you think about the bigger beaver teeth keyboard on the iphone?

I have come across a strange behaviour, which I am not sure is intended or not - hopefully you can clarify things.

When I am at the synth page, I would like to load a preset to one step, and a different preset to another. So, I set the edit range to "step", and choose a step - but when I choose a synth preset, it edit range automatically switches to "song", loading the preset for all steps instead of only my chosen one.
Is this the intended way for it to work? Because it could be really nice, if the synth presets also could be loaded for a single step (or rather - only would be loaded within the currently selected edit range.)

This is on the iPad version, in the stand-alone and with an otherwise empty init loaded.

  • Right now, a preset is written to all steps. I can check if it can be written to the edit range, but there was a reason I can´t remember right now, why I ruled that out.

Certainly looks more usable, the keys are pretty tiny on my iPhone 12’s screen though I don’t anticipate playing on the onscreen keyboard that much.

  • I picked it up for iPhone (cheaper for sure, tho the phone is what I have with me all the time), and have been having a lot of fun with it. I don’t think I’d use it anywhere near as much on iPad, so I hope that the two gain complete feature parity in the future.

I’m not a big fan of the genres, but other than that it’s a kick to just doodle around on. I’d love to see some form of Graindad added into the effects, it’s overall a great deal for $13.

  • Enjoy the factory presets while taking a nap:

    Thanks for this, Gavinski.

+1 Definitely an improvement. Thanks @SugarBytesRico

Thanks! it would be great (and fit better into the concept of sound data pr. step, I think) if possible - you might want to use a different preset for a part or similar - so happy if you can check, but fair enough, if there is reason for this not to be possible.

  • I remember now. the preset also recalls the synth engine. this cannot be done per edit range, sorry.

    Very fun app!

@SugarBytesRico Any chance we can tilt/use both sides on the iPhone version? My phone screen is kinda scuffed. Thanks.

Edit: Also few controls hidden by the iPhone notch.

  • It's odd - I'm starting to get out of time delays on the performance delay FX, even with small feedback amounts on the vertical axis. It's fine on the iphone version, but very wild and unmusical on the ipad version.

  • On further investigation, the following is happening. I put four kick drums in at regular intervals, loop the bar, and gently slide the performance Delay fx on its vertical axis. On the iphone version, the expected delay happens, but on the ipad version, it's an unmusical mess, that sounds like the delay is just an immediate echo, rather than any rhythmic value. I've probably got a setting wrong, but I can't see what.

  • The issue seems to be on standalone only. The delay fx works as expected when Dialekt runs as an audiounit in Aum.

  • Some progress. Changing the tempo, and then changing it back to what it was, seems to help the messed-up delay.

please check if it makes a difference with internal/external clock setting. (settings page, bottom left). I changed something here for the 1.0.2 update which could fix that issue.

can you send a screen shot? which iphone do you use?

iPhone 11 but it’s only part of the octave shift buttons for the keyboard, so it’s not a huge deal. But that part of my screen is completely dead, so having the app rotate with the screen orientation would be great. Again, no biggie I suppose.

Yes, changing the clock setting to external fixes the delay issue. (But of course, in this case you can’t change the tempo in standalone.) Thanks for working on a fix - delay is a big part of a groovebox!

Same for me on iphone 11.

    I think good.

  • Quick question from the ignorant to those who may know:

If I want to copy a pattern from one track to the same track in the next segment (replacing what is already there for example) is there a simple way I'm missing to do this?

In this example I want to exactly copy the 'Syn' line and then paste it/replace what's in the 'Syn' line in the next pattern...

That’s what’s great about this app, it makes it really easy to copy parts about. In the memory page select range and select the instrument on the left then just drag the parts around.

  • You can also drag and drop the Track-buttons onto each other, in order to copy or swap within one pattern.

  • Thanks muchly. Am making a lot of noise here in Austin today, not always pretty but definitely enthusiastic (much like myself etc).

  • It's amazing how many really cool apps been released in a very sort span. It's a bit overwhelming and definitely takes a toll on the wallet.

FontStack, Dialekt, Blofeld, Elastic OSC to name some of the instruments and there are a few plugs too. Like Quantum Granular that was released today.

Rob Jackson has released both instruments and plugins lately.

    As I said: Amazing!

  • Stiff competition on the groovebox front this year. GR2, DM10, Battalion and Dialekt. On a phone, for me, Dialekt wins as easiest to see and use, even though it has sophisticated arrangement tools. There’s a ton of distilled SB goodness in this app. Love it. Desktop’s only 29 euros if you have an upgrade deal and looks relatively painless to transfer projects across, a no brainer for me. I’ll be buying the others too though as have been getting interesting noises out of both Battalion and the DM10 betas, however, they’ll be better on an iPad, whereas Dialekt seems made for thumbs. GR2 will have to wait for now…
