That’s the state vs freedom of expression, support for the people of Palestine.

  • This is the same fascist state operating across the West, to censor the press and reporters.

Unlike the current administration, China is playing the long term game.

Also agree with OP, except that as long as the courts hold, he’ll remain a wannabe dictator. Even a majority of the Supreme Court (except the two usual suspects) has started to put the breaks on him on some of the most blatant power grabs.

Agreed. But then again, you have MAGA people arguing now that "uphold the constitution" means something radically different from "preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution."

Intellectual dishonesty? Cynicism? Stupidity? All of the above?

  • @Simon : Trump is a person with a long history of lying and randomly saying things who does whatever he can get away with. Asking if he gave a reason is playing into his hands.

He swore an oath to uphold the constitution. His history show he believes he can make up his own rules.

Most of maga believes that the Constitution consists mainly of two parts:

    • MY free speech means, I can force any reprehensible person to be put on campus, tv, debate stage etc and force you to listen to them; meanwhile a peaceful protester, journalist, or opinion holder that contravenes or holds a multitude of ideas outside of group think (sometimes even flat out hate speech) is someone to be put on a blacklist (see Darren Beattie now in the state dept making up list of words you can't say or you'll be on a disloyal list - for further action. See also Stephen Miller, charlie kirk... and many others)
    • My gun gives me absolute authority to shoot you for no reason other than I dont like you, your skin, your words, or where you are

They believe in what is convenient for them. Whatever jingoism, xenophobia, or whataboutism lets them feel like they are right and gives them power by proximity to a toxic 'political' movement.

They don't want the rule of law, what they want is retribution. Just like Trump.

These are, on the whole, people who have been brainwashed by 30+ years of propaganda that blames and denigrates anyone not espousing a certain view. They could not care less about the Constitution. What they want is to have POWER in their lives. Their lives which have, in their minds actually or imaginarily, been impinged upon ( I can't get ahead ) by the OTHERS ( dems, liberals, commies, marxists, radicals, trans, gays, people of color, immigrants)

They view that things have BEEN TAKEN from them, and they want it back. So they looked to a man who promised them that. A promise that he's convinced them he is fulfilling (its coming in two weeks* and 90 days**) at the price of their liberty, property (see coming economic collapse), and rule of law.

All those GOP pocket constitutions are now so much kindling for apostate and book burnings.

    TL:DR
Maga is a conglomeration of the RICH (techno-feudal billionaires) who have convinced the RELIGIOUS (extremists christian nationalists) and the RACISTS and the gullible working poor that we should burn it all down and have a fascist dictatorship with one party and one man who will 'set things right' for THEM.

They don't care about the constitution, and have never read it except as far as the 1st and 2nd amendment - rather what people have told them about it.

It is the height of surrealism that the people who stockpiled guns against a tyrannical government are doing nothing to stop this ACTUAL one.

*see infrastructure week and healthcare reform (concepts)
** see current tariff war (90 deals in 90 days - which has NOT happened)

I would make a clear distinction between those who actually thought Trump would help them and those in the cult.
Also a distinction between those in POWER who were lying to them the whole time to push their agendas ( oligarchy, theocracy, and white supremacy - oh and the end of 'liberal' democracy because it will end 'western civilization')

  • @audiblevideo I agree in part with your summary but it’s simplistic to assume this represents the whole of the MAGA movement, at it’s root is a large proportion of working class people who have been betrayed by the system for quite sometime, thus they voted for the anti-politician, but they got MIGA and a different bunch of cronies.

@knewspeak yeah I believe I mentioned that and I’m emphatically not painting them all with the same brush

“ They view that things have BEEN TAKEN from them, and they want it back. So they looked to a man who promised them that. A promise that he's convinced them he is fulfilling (its coming in two weeks* and 90 days**) at the price of their liberty, property (see coming economic collapse), and rule of law. “

    And

“ I would make a clear distinction between those who actually thought Trump would help them and those in the cult.
Also a distinction between those in POWER who were lying to them the whole time to push their agendas ( oligarchy, theocracy, and white supremacy - oh and the end of 'liberal' democracy because it will end 'western civilization')”

Of course there’s more to say. In general there are those wholly IN the cult and those adjacent to it. Those who are in the cult believe things like Trump being ordained by god aka “the chosen one” or other non religious beliefs ( like Q . Those who adjacent though they were getting a better economic outcome and that the extremism etc was just talk even though everybody warned them.
Both cases can be fairly represented by loss, and wanting to “take back” what they view as ONLY theirs. Not everyone’s. They want laws against others. They want economic opportunity for themselves not others. That’s why blame and hatred played such a big part of trumps campaign and on steroids now. Except now the mask is off, and “some” are starting to realize that THEY along with everyone else not just the ‘bad guys’ are at risk of economic eugenics, actual eugenics, renditions, and no rule of law or constitution.
It might be too late. I hope that it’s not and the people reject the tyranny that is everyday trying to expand its scope.

This is Orban on steroids. More like Stalin and Hitler than we’d like to believe. Incompetence is the only thing that might save us.

It’s just a progression of the illegal deportation of people to El Salvador, military security state is where it will lead, but in part it’s been that way for a long time.

All societies change… some encourage changes while others are offended and fight back. I suspect this fundamental principle
can be overlayed on any political scheme for organizing and structuring the use and constraints on power.

In the end, the courts are the best last hope of a system unraveling to the demands of either extreme movement for or against
advancing the concepts of a just society.

Consider DEI - Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. 3 vary loaded and potentially dangerous concepts for Trump’s view of order.
He has decided that White South Africans deserve expedited entry because they are “discriminated” in South Africa after the fall of Aparthied… Elon probably made that case having left his “homeland” for Canada. Peter Thiel and David Sacks have similar backgrounds and helped elect Trump and elevated J.D. Vance to prominence as a voice for their profoundly religious form of
intolerance. J.D. Vance went to persuade the previous Pope on global power and the Pope didn’t meet with him but did die the next day so timing is key in delivering messages.

The new Pope seems to focus on the Red Words in the New Testament. I expect J.D. might get on another plane at any moment for another swing at the ball (shot at the net or hoop?).

I screwed that up… looks like they did meet briefly. Note: This Pope did not speak english and they met on Easter Sunday
so I doubt J.D. moved the needle much. J.D. converted to Catholicism in 2019 before that I’m not sure what faith he professed.

My sister converted as well and she did it because she was consumed by guilt and they confessional and the resulting homework appealed to her I think. She needed some simple solution to raising 3 boys while being a functioning alcoholic.
More people in my family tree were alcoholics than not. I had my moments but am doing well now that I found liquid THC
    to change my brain patterns.

8 drops in a glass of dilute Grape Juice equals 2-3 beers, for my brain. A $30 bottle of 1000 mg seems to last well over a month so it’s cost effective in a place where it’s legal.
