He said that 13 months ago.
Fair enough. I misread the date. ✌🏼
Well, as with most of my plans the better word would be "wish"
I have a desire to make AUM for Mac, but don't know when. Also haven't decided about universal vs separate app purchase, but leaning towards the latter.
I’ll be fine if AUM never changes except for the implementation of multithreading support, it’s crucial for the functionality and effectiveness of the app. It's a real limitation at the moment.
You can always make “AUM Next” without the constraints of the old framework used in AUM. 😅
Well according to your poll, a vast majority are happy to re-buy a Mac version, so there's some income just begging to be made:)
You could also mebbe run a crowd-funding account, people who donate above, say $25 get a copy when released....or some similar idea perhaps?
Guess that wasn't such a good idea after all hahaha!
For me, the iPad and AUM is fun precisely becauseit's not on the computer. The computer feels like work somehow (product manager at a software company). I use AUM live to run click and do synths, and I use it just for fun at home too. You're up against mainstage and the like on osx, which I'd likely use instead of AUM if I were wanting to bring a laptop on stage.
I'll say this too: be careful making business decisions on a willingness to pay survey like this as well. We consumers will say yes all day long and then not buy it when you finally release it!
Good luck! (And if you're looking for alternatives, a condensed mixer view would be time well spent for me!)
And… I could put it on my lap. In fact, that’s brilliant. They could call it a… a… laptop!
Now imagine if this “laptop” computer could fold in half like a book. They could call it a MacFold! Maybe have a MacFold Plus line of more powerful models, and a MacFold Helium line, consisting of less fully-featured, but more lightweight models.
Yes AUM will always be more fun on the iPad. But in my case would be very useful on Mac as well. I use my iPad with AUM to play guitar live at church (or sometimes a shoegazy jam here and there). At home I mostly use my Mac with proper studio monitors for everything music related. So it would be immensely useful to set up my AUM sessions on my Mac and check the sound on my monitors and then take the same session with me on my iPad to play through a pa systems live.
It’s a bit of a hassle to plug everything around so that I can use my iPad with my studio monitors at home.
I’m quite hopeful that Jonatan will find the time necessary to do the port. Of course happy to pay for it again.
.......... I'll say this too: be careful making business decisions on a willingness to pay survey like this as well. We consumers will say yes all day long and then not buy it when you finally release it!
Which is why I suggested a crowd funding scheme instead
that way he can set a target and once reached create the product - no need to "trust" pledges - he'll have the $'s in his pocket
Yeah that's not a bad idea. Different trade offs, but maybe better ones. He's clearly got a good thing going, I'm sure he'll sort it out. Mac desktop would certainly open up a new audience and grow the business. See, haha, I can talk myself either way on his behalf.
THIS!!!! 💯
I also have a wish for you to make AUM for Mac. It would make me very happy.
I would also buy it from the App store at three times the iOS asking price.
AUM is my favourite, and most used piece of software. It is amazing and has changed my life.
The currently available attempts at modular Mac AU/VST hosts are few in number, and either unreliable, or extremely limited in features., and/or have clumsy workflows..
I can use Logic, and get it listening to my iPad, but the integration isn't great.
If AUM was on my Mac, just as it is, but also hosting Audio Units it would be a dream come true.
I would do 90% of my work and play in AUM and use Logic to edit/mix/master certain sorts of recordings.
I have a lot of respect for all the big DAWs, but essentially they all have some element of feeling like I am constructing music in a spreadsheet.
AUM is much more fluid, fun, and productive platform for me as a musician and as a producer.
Keep up the good work.
(And please make AUM for Mac and put me on the beta testing list ASAP.
Cheers,
Sim
I couldn’t agree more AUM is amazing 🙌
I would replace MainStage with AUM for desktop immediately.
Me too.
MainStage has always promised far more than it delivers. Has been incredibly bloated and unreliable on all but the newest hardware and is incredibly inflexible in its workflow.
Element, by Kushview has some potential, but is very much in development and has a load of issues associated with that.
Sessions, available now on app store (and universal Mac-iOS) also has some potential, but is severely limited in comparison to AUM.
I think there are a couple of high-end stage performance bits of software around that could do the job, but at high, subscription, prices and no real integration with the iPad audio workflow...
So yes please, AUM for Mac. My app store account is ready and waiting. 😉😊
I'd pay $100 for a desktop version. One of the things I would love to be able to do that can't be done on the iPad is the routing of audio. This would make the MacBook Air and MPC Live. Sampling from the internet into an app and having FX apps on the track. While there may be workarounds, if the dev is considering, working on it or wishing it, my wallet is ready to participate.
If not, Loopy Pro could be on the horizon as an option.
Either way, in a world of options, it's good to have another and happy to pay for the work that it takes.
I would also pay at least $100 for a desktop version of AUM.
I would basically need to buy the full Ableton Live Suite, and Max for Live, and another couple of plugins to get my Mac's audio/midi DAWless play-flow similar to what I have with AUM on my iPad.
(I have done some sums on this in $AUD and it looks like the equivalent of quite a few weeks rent ...)
I use Logic Pro, Ableton Lite, Sessions, midiFX Pro, and ApeMatrix to host AU and Auv3s on my Mac, and none of them are as fun and fluid and flexible as AUM.
I would like to put my hand up to alpha test AUM for Mac ASAP. 🙂🙏🏼
Cheers! 🎶✌️
Oh, I forgot to mention Camelot Pro.
That's pretty nice on an iPad, and I reckon it is likely to end up my main dawless/jamming host on Mac.
(Logic for mixing/mastering or orchestrated stuff)
I would still prefer to spend whatever $ I will end up spending on Camelot Pro, on AUM for Mac, as the workflow is more fluid and less has to be planned and set up in advance.
Anyone else exploring these apps or have alternatives to suggest?
Cheers,
Sim

For me, AUM 🤩 is the best thing that ever happened for iPad music making. Almost all of my friends and foes here hate me for saying this, haha. 🤦♂️
But AUM for the desktop should be able to offer a little bit more than it offers now. Simply because for a DAW-less system like this, workflow with included tools is everything. And the majority of iOS apps can’t be transferred to the desktop just like that.
On the other hand, I’ll be happy to see AUM on the desktop as it is. 😌
I agree 100%.
Especially with "For me, AUM 🤩 is the best thing that ever happened for iPad music making."
Yes, I have a few AUM feature requests,
and I wil get more comfortable with ApeMatrix, Camelot, EG Nodes, and Loopy Pro,
and I would happily learn Max for Live if someone bought it for me 😉,
but AUM is my happy place.
I didn’t get AUM at first. Now it’s basically my main starting point. While I agree it would be cool for Mac, daws can do most of what this does for the iPad, and I think there is some kind of magic mojo @j_liljedahl had captured with the iPad and the interface and the Touchscreen. It’s just really close to like a perfect little mixing playground, that it’s hard to define or capture the right words for…and I don’t think that magic would translate to the mouse and keyboard the same way in terms of feel and how just fun it is to work in AUM…but maybe that’s just my sentimentality for the combo and workflow I now find special…
Either way, I am in and would definitely love to own both, but I still think just like with my Mac and logic, I would still come back to using AUM with my iPad. It just works perfectly .
Kymatica AUMagic Mojo
(Ps I like it so much I even considered getting a 13” iPad specifically for AUM)
I wouldn’t see AUM as a competition for desktop DAWS though. More like well a playground. Messing around and having fun without the pressure of creating another masterpiece in a DAW 😄 As a break from the other DAWs.
I hope it will come one day!
I use Hosting AU app when I don't want to be bothered with a DAW on the desktop. It's minimalistic, but works well and is really fast to set up.
Til we have AUM on desktop, couple of alternatives to consider:
Bitwig - it's a DAW but you can ignore the arranger part and it's super flexible esp for midi/audio routing just like AUM.
Gig Performer - closest thing to AUM, modular host environment that supports midi, OSC.
Hey. This is pretty cool ! What don’t you know good sir ?
@auxmux said:
Hey man I like Bitwig a lot in theory and from the little I’ve done with it, but how do you feel about it ? AUM clicked with me little little by little, (coming from linear daw was all I knew), but I was Always intrigued and drawn to Bitwig.is it a workflow you’ve adopted ?what videos or tutorials helped you get the modular makeup of the program?
It has always bugged me that I still don’t know what’s the difference between a duck. 🤷🏻♂️
That's easy. One of its legs is both the same.
