    Had this happen to me as well. I just “refresh” the program by reloading it in AUM. It happens also in an unrelated product. Reloading Mozaic, which has a script loaded, fixes the non playing.

    You might want to see if the problem lies in host communication, perhaps when the host clock and timeline have started or not. Just my uneducated guess.

    Using Octachron as strictly a midi cc controller/sequencer with probability and step repeats, etc. on Shoom is magnificent! With probability settings you can get nicely evolving compositions going with little effort. Easy to set up too.

    You don’t even have to set up more than a few controls and a couple sequences to get nice results.

  • The update is great but I have a problem… sometimes when I’m using Octachron as an AU (in Drambo) my sequences aren’t saved. I can’t reproduce it, it happens randomly that I’ll open a project and Octachron is completely reset. I haven’t had this happen with any other apps. Not sure what’s going on but unfortunately it means I can’t rely on it. Has anyone else encountered this?

    Oh, that's encouraging; I might have to try this app.

    So for polyrhythmic elements, taking the note values below as an example

    The manual says under Modulation:
    "Track Length allows you to change the length of each track independently from the others and create polyrhythms")
    ...so just set Track Length under Modulation to 4, 6, 8, 12, 16, 20, 24, 28, 32 to achieve the note divisions above?

    Apologies if I'm asking something obvious.
    I achieve the above in Patterning in the following manner (a little more involved but not horrible)
    Patterning example in 4/4:
    1/4 notes: STANDARD MODE, Duration=1/4 note, Steps=four
    1/4 triplets: STANDARD MODE, Duration=1/4 triplet, Steps=six
    1/8 notes: STANDARD MODE, Duration=1/8 note, Steps=eight
    1/8 triplets: STANDARD MODE, Duration=1/8triplet, Steps=twelve
    1/16 notes: STANDARD MODE, Duration=1/16, Steps sixteen
    Quintuplets: DIVIDE MODE = 20 steps (5 X 4 ...multiplying the 5 note quintuplet times 4 -because in 4/4 time there are four quintuplets per measure)
    1/16 Sextuplets: DIVIDE MODE = 24 steps (6 x 4)
    Septuplets, DIVIDE MODE = 28 STEPS (7 X 4)

    I think some of these measures are possible, but I think not all of them.
    But Track length is not for that. It is for shortening single tracks in comparison to others, so that hits appear at different times compared to the others each loop. This is what we call polyrhythm.

    And as clock divider per pattern and track we offer 1/8, 1/4, 1/2, 3/4 (triplets), 1 (default), 3/2 and 2.

    Hey, yes. We would like to have that synced as well, of course. But unfortunately, it is not so easy, because it is technically something totally different in those two environments.
    We have it on our list but it is not possible at the moment. We are very sorry for the inconvenience. 🫤

    But Track length is not for that. It is for shortening single tracks in comparison to others, so that hits appear at different times compared to the others each loop. This is what we call polyrhythm.

    And as clock divider per pattern and track we offer 1/8, 1/4, 1/2, 3/4 (triplets), 1 (default), 3/2 and 2.

    Actually I think the "hits occurring at different times" (the polyrhythms in question) are written via these note values and are two ways of saying the same thing, no?

    -i.e. polyrhythms with Track Length under Modulation set to 4, 6, 8, 12, 16, 20, 24, 28, 32 should relate specifically to the note values depicted in the photo (from the video below) as Beato explains here (re. Gary Chaffee sticking patterns)?

    TBH I think if I am wrong and Octachron can't achieve this -e.g. basic Gary Chaffee sticking patterns- it sadly won't work for me at all, BUT can you look at this as Beato describes it, because I'm thinking Octachron actually can?

    Just from looking at the screenshot… there is a big difference between note division and shortening beats/bar. With Octachron you can have your 16 beat track run for 15 beats instead, so a beat gets dropped every time it plays. But those beats are still landing in the same time division. It’s not true polyrhythm as I understand it. If you divide your 16 beats equally by 3, those beats are going to hit on a different rhythm than your 4/4 rhythm.

    That's not the alternate setting in the Manual we are discussing, though, per the original question of whether Octachron could do polyrhythms (TasTax answered yes).

    Our discussion digressed into achieving the specified note values which are building blocks of certain polyrhythms (listed only by way of example as others seem obviously possible); more concretely what I was hoping Tas could help flesh out is what values playing against one another polyrhythmically are or are not possible in Octachron and precisely how to set it up to the extent that this is possible.

    I was able to do all the basic Gary Chaffee sticking pattern stuff in both Patterning (after consulting with the dev, in the manner explained above) and obviously Beat Scholar (in that case in a simple manner right out of the box so to speak). This sort of thing isn't academic for me but very important to my own compositional style and also, of course, to a whole s&*tload of contemporary music (and a lot of older stuff too). Also hoping to flesh out metric modulation and polymeter later on.

    I think Octachron can do at least some of this stuff for sure; I'm just a little fuzzy about exactly what (and what not) and about translating clock times into my more "comfortable" forms of music speak and so on.

    Hey everyone, this is so cool. I love this nerdy discussion around rhythms and what can OCTACHRON do! The idea behind the clock dividers per track was to achieve this type of rhythms! :) I made a short video on how to achieve this. Please excuse the bad audio, hope its still helpful!

    @reinerspass Ive just noticed that adding tracks (beyond the 8 default) wrongly assigns them to channel 0, hence producing no sound. When inspecting the track properties and tapping the + button of the channel, it also jumps from 0 to 2.

    Also happening with the Generate scale function.

    It was previously working and assigning channel 1 to new tracks by default.
