Patches have velocity settings in their matrix. This baffled me at first too. Turn the level of a voice to 0 and the velocity-level parameter to max to get 0-127 range. I don't think any of the patches have velocity modulation by default. The one thing I don't like about this otherwise phenomenal instrument.
thanks @timfromtheborder! It's a pain in the ass to go through every layer's level and matrix velocity but it works. Can't understand why this is not a default for every patch and instead it defaults to fixed velocity. I can easily set my keys to fixed velocity on my keyboard settings or midi plugin but not the other way around...
I linked to some dope wavetables for FRMS. I'll see if I can find the link. It's such a great app, some really dark, gnarly supernatural presets.
What I want to know is.. if FRMS is frames what is DRC? Dark?!
Got another question, also made by @Paulo164 a long time ago and apparently never answered:
So a quick example is setting the control>level to 0 and matrix>VEL to 100% like @timfromtheborder said. Then if you play in POLY mode and press a key with low velocity, then another key with higher velocity, both keys will be set to the last velocity played. So then if you play a low velocity key, all keys will again change velocity to that last key. This is bizarre and kind of a deal breaker in addition to the stupid default of no velocity patches.
Although it functionally seems like a great synth, this makes it kind of useless for expressive playing.
Am I doing something wrong or is this the way this synth works?
@jdss13 I recommend sending a message through their support page. I did once and they responded right away
https://www.imaginando.pt/contact-us
If you do, I'd be interested in their response.
@timfromtheborder thanks for the suggestion, they did answer super fast! Guilherme from Imaginando said the velocity is monophonic and there is a pending ticket to make it polyphonic. He added they are mostly working on the VS synth at the moment but eventually they'll be back to FRMS.
I guess I'll keep waiting!
Cool, thanks. It's not something I noticed before, I guess because I tend to use it for texture (and as sampler fodder) more than as an expressive instrument. Great to know they're planning to keep working on it.
This is making me want to clear out my DAW shopping cart and just get AUM and devote my life to formless, amorphous jamz.
Yes!
Granular is great stuff
This is such an amazing deal for such an awesome app! At this price is totally a no brainier! If anyone is on the fence, well, it ain't gonna get lower than this ever! I highly recommend it!
Watched Doug's awesome video on FRMS:

Yes Dougs vid got me interested again too and what a super IAP pack. I love the strings and i also really like the way you can blend 2 layers with modwheel.

Anyone know how to achieve this with your own samples? Would love a tutorial or some guidance with that
This is one of my favourite iOS synths, so tempted by the desktop version sale.
Running the demo though, the audio keeps crashing out when randomising a factory preset - not the demo’s normal intermittent silent thing - but a full-on loss of sound. Rebooting then restores the audio, until randomising a preset knocks it out again.
I’m also finding the results of using the random option, not as usable as the iOS version, which gives really good results.
Just wondering if this is an issue with the demo, or if the full version also suffers?
Are you running FRMS standalone or the plugin version? Mac or Windows? Can you please confirm the version you are running in desktop?
Randomisation wise I think you should get the same kind of results in eiter platforms. The code base is the same.
Plugin on Mac (macOS 15 Sequoia), Ableton Live (haven’t tested it in Logic), latest version of the demo and Live.
It seems to get progressively worse the more times I use it. Occasional audio lost initially, but now it’s lost after just a couple of randomisation attempts.
For me, this is the best feature on the iOS version, and generates really good results.
Update: tested in Logic, doesn’t lose audio completely, so seems to be a Live combo issue.
Again though, even in Logic I’m finding randomisation results really poor. For example, out of around 40 hits on the first default patch, almost all were silent, with just two or three producing any audible sound.
In comparison, on the iPad, out of 20 clicks, only two were silent, with 18 decent, usable new patches created.
Maybe having additional packs installed on my iPad is helping to provide better random results?
Anyone know, in seconds, the max buffer size?
Anything I load fails-too big.
Unfortunately buffer size can only be adjusted on desktop.
-thx
Still waiting for a fix - unusable on desktop with the constant cutting out of all audio.
latest iOS update of FRMS has a nasty nasty bug:(
after loading/changing more than 6+ patches in the same session
it crashes AUM
iOS 17
hope its ez to fix
thank you
Yeah, that’s a booger.
We are able to reproduce it. Working on it. Sorry for the hassle!
The problem should be fixed now! Please confirm.
yes seems its fixed now!
big thnx for fast fix
