I'm curious to use this not as a drum machine but as a general noise and drone machine...any experiences?

Turn the bpm down to 30, hit randomize, then tweak. That sounds flippant, but it's really worked for me...

It would honestly be hard to come up with any single app/plugin that can do everything Batt can do.

You can sequence/play individual midi channels for melodic stuff, etc.

And it sounds so damn good. And with the sample playback, it can literally sound like anything.

And I’d challenge anyone to offer up something with better, more powerful, and most importantly intuitive/easy to set up modulation option.

If there was a Nobel prize for synth, Batt is the clear winner for 2025…

Before this came along, Attack was my king of the hill, but it’s such a pain in the ass to use… I never did.

I really hope the devs get rewarded financially and reputationally as the deserve for this thing…

I’m not blowing smoke up their asses on this either… it’s just damn good. And when they get some wrinkles out (presends, etc.) … Gonna take a lot to top it…

    What’s Attack?

    Antique "drum machine" by Waldorf.

It was sooooo far ahead of similar apps/plugins at the time (2001) it's almost proof of time travel.

    https://waldorfmusic.com/attack-ios-en/

    Also have a vst.

Thing had a freaking speech synthesizer built in!

Brain damage inducing to use on touch though...

    Edit
Holy crap... I just looked and they are STILL maintaining and improving it!!!

    Good for them!

Just working my way through this one, picking up a few tips, thanks @jakoB_haQ

What I really like about this app is the depth of potential options for sound design, and even though there’s an initially large learning curve, you can make some crazy noises straight away via the randomiser.

Bought on release, I’m only now properly creating my own presets, but there’s still more stuff to discover and dig in to.

    Brilliant app!

What’s interesting in my experience is the learning curve seems sharp but really it’s just intimidating taking all the UI in. There’s lots of options but I’m not menu diving or long pressing everything to get what I need. As soon as I saw where everything was the layout went from seeming busy to very neatly laid out. The learning curve is more muscle memory than functionality IMO.

Same for buying on release and just now getting into it. I find it much easier after changing the color scheme. The blue pink makes me a bit nauseous lol.

  • Suuuuper interested in this one. Anyone using on both PC and iOS? Curious how it is copying projects/samples back and forth etc. I assume nowadays it should be pretty smooth?

Yeah, there’s a lot going on - fortunately though a lot of the options (e.g. synth type chooser x 3) are duplicated, so there’s more chance of finding the right button!

Normally I don’t like complex apps that I have to relearn each time I use them (e.g. Drambo, Tera Pro…), but I’ve made an exception for this one, as for me, the end results are worth it.

Yeah I can get Drambo going but for the life of me can’t remember what I did to get there. It’s like picking up a Legend of Zelda save file in the middle of a dungeon I started months ago. Lots of puzzles, backtracking, and guides.

In the latest Battalion beta, I can’t get the Preset Browser to appear when Battalion is loaded as an AUv3 in AUM.I can change presets OK with the arrows, but tapping the preset name doesn’t show the preset browser. Works Ok in standalone.

  • Hi @craftycurate
Maybe you can get better contact with developers. Would it be possible for them to build a preset sequencer? It’s hard to make a whole track of it. But if it could play 4x preset 1 then 3 x preset 2 then 2 x preset 3 and again preset 1. It would be so cool.

Maybe any of you got an idea if it’s possible to make that outside Battalion?

The devs are pretty active on the forum already :)

Thanks- what was the issue and email? I'll check if you let me know a subject. Emails go directly to us, not an AI or marketing person/team, which is a double-edged sword as sometimes they don't get an answer. We're improving and have been pretty good this year, solid B+/A- imo.

I emailed a couple of times.

Why does the Velocity sliders in the sequencer when all set to -100 not completely mute the sound but just make the voice sound a little softer?

You can use the velocity parameter in the envelope sections to alter the depth of this.

    Ah! Great, thanks :)

  • Is there a way to quickly reset all the sequencer? Basically keep sounds, but default the sequencer?

If not, there REALLY needs to be a way…

That feature is in the current beta being tested. I’m sure it’ll be out soon.

"Clear All Sequencers" is now added in beta - it s on the Preset Menu (but Preset menu currently only appearing in Standalone due to an issue with the JUCE menu framework I think I read somewhere).

  • Hope to add clear all modulation and lock modulation as well sooner than later. The preset menu auv3 issue was fixed so will make it into beta shortly.

Excellent news! Look forward to trying it out.

  • It's back on IPhone!!

The beta is at least- updated about an hour ago. I had to choose pull it off my IPad because of the size, but now... goodness!
