I want Drum Computer but I just got Patterning 3.

I haven't been able to get a solid bead on whether buying the full version of Drum Computer is worth it. I did pick up Patterning 3 and Kaola to play in this space as well. Drum Computer seems by all accounts a fantastic use case here, but I'm not sure if the free version will prove too limiting.

Yeah it's essentially a demo right?

    That is my understanding.

From bits and pieces I've seen across very old posts from Sugar Bytes or user forum posts, at least at one point the free version didn't support AU, save/load states, and just basic drumsets, possibly among other things.

But I've also seen users happy with the free version that seem to be using it as a plugin, and so I'm not actually clear about everything the full version has that the free version doesn't. Which ... is weird. Doesn't seem like it should be challenging to find that information.

Yeah haha. The problem is, if he makes it too cheap, it runs the risk of pissing off people who bought at the original price. Really I think he'd have made more sales and more profit if this had been priced at 30 from the get-go

That is one piece of information that showed up directly from an initial release post (I think from Sugar Bytes themselves), but then I came across forum posts within the last couple of years that seem to indicate people were using the free version as an AUv3 plugin - I may have misunderstood the context, sometimes people just don't use any periods when they post, and it's just, like, ... where does the information transition, lol.

If either that and load/save states don't work, then I'll likely pick it up to have until FAC Drumkit and a couple other things come up.

Basically, if you like it, you're almost certainly going to want the paid version, I think. Does the AppStore not say clearly what the IAP gives you? Sugar Bytes aren't great at explaining that stuff sometimes, they need to improve in that regard

  • Definitely was the case with Aparillo. My wife was digging the free version and we picked up the full version. The demo was missing the AU and a good amount of presets

Ah yeah - while they can't prevent it from showing up as an AUv3, with the free version when you load it that way, it tells you AU is only available with the FULL version.

In Drum Computer standalone, it's only when you click to Buy Now / Restore Purchase that it lists a few of things the full version unlocks:

"Audio Unit, Over 500 Presets, Audio Mixdown, MIDI Export, Save & Session Restore, iCloud Sync..."

Seems the Mutli-Channel AUM is also included with that per another post, though they don't mention it. Not sure what else the full version might do, but yeah, that answers the core questions I had.

The free version doesn't allow saving and can't be used as an AUV instrument/fx. Possibly has fewer presets too, but I don't really care about that. I want the full version but I already picked up Octachron, Blip Box, RM-1 modulator, and will probably pick up Fractal Bits, Relic Flow, and Relic Waves, so that's like 90% in the DrumComputer ballpark. In retrospect, I should have just waited til DC went on sale.

The free version is still a good source of samples via IAA or screen grab. Just hit randomize on the kits and you're bound to come up with some useful bits.

I don't know that it's all overlap - I picked up Octachron and Blip Box as well, and still plan on grabbing FAC Drumkit, Fingerlab DM10, and Bram Bos Ruismaker NOIR. While I know there will be some similarities, I like having tools be specific and relatively isolated in function without too much noise - like, Drum Computer might be able to sequence Blip Box and other things without their own sequencer, but I intend to use Octachron for that purpose.

And while there may be some overlap in sounds between Blip Box, Ruismaker NOIR, things Drum Computer can do, and something like Unfiltered Audio's Battalion, I found enough difference in sound and functionality to warrant interest - even if I'll wait on some of them for sales, and some of Battalion's current limitations may mean I skip it for now and focus on the others.

Oh, Drum Computer is still definitely on my radar. Maybe not just this go around, as I really need a linear DAW to bring it all together. I have Ruismaker Noir too. Also want to get Ruismaker FM and Ripplemaker at some point.

Is there a way to see IAP prices on the App Store?

Go to the store and find the app you want.

Scroll down to "Information" and click on the arrow next to "In App Purchases".

  • Good luck on the DAW hunt, I don't think I've ever found linear DAW perfection in a single product, though I do miss Renoise at times - just can't use a computer for creation anymore.

Loopy Pro has become my base now, and ironing out a few of these remaining tools with limitations and focus helps.

    • settings (top right of screen)
    • iOS settings
    • Buy now

I think it’s been out long enough that people who bought in at the original price should either feel they extracted their money’s worth and value the tool or they tried it out, gave up, and now forgot. As a big fan of the app I’d rather see more people using it so if dropping the price is the right move for that I vote go for it.

  • Any compressor or EQ recs from currently on sale apps? Something besides FabFilter and maybe cheaper?

I've already settled on Audio Evolution Mobile. Cubasis 3 is a bit overkill for me. The price difference will go toward smaller sequencers and FX to fill out my AUM toolbox, which I also recently got.

Good to know, thanks! I really just need it to arrange loops and stems and mix them down, maybe some basic midi sequencing. I'm sure it'll be great.

I did a remix in FL Studio Mobile and I just barely got it done. FLSM was suffering with it by the time I dropped in all the stems. I re-did it in AEM and had no issues at all.
