    FYI ….

I ACCIDENTALLY LEFT ONE DEVELOPER OFF THE RECENT SALES RECAP LIST.

All K Devices Apps are Still on Sale!

Fauve is REALLY awesome I find. I use it more than my granular effects. Lately I pair it a lot with jAmp Percussive. Or djembe loops. A bit on the dryier side than wet, so the groove is not lost in the glitching.

Do you see additional value in the zero-crossing detection vs. just a fast attack, as it pertains to “dryness” (preserving the transient in a kick drum, let’s say)? Trying to figure out what I’m missing beyond my others granulars (though I am a K-devices fan!)

Hmm this goes a bit above my knowledge, sorry... 😅 Maybe someone else can chime in.

What I find is that with Fauve, I need minimal tweaking to achieve something that is for me very enjoyable to listen to, where with granular effects I often land into a more experimental territory music wise. I guess with granular effects you could achieve something very similar, but need a better understanding of whats going on.

When I used dryness it was more in relation to the ratio of sound source vs. effect and not how much it was smeared.

Gotcha. That is helpful info. Thx! :)
Tempted to buy and give it a try, but Mother’s words resonate in my head: “We have granular at home.”

I don’t think of Fauve as a granular effect. Actually it’s quite unique. It’s possible to dial up a granular type sound, but it also does stuff that doesn’t sound granular at all. Pretty weird sometimes. I definitely recommend it, my favourite app from K-Devices.

Agreed, it only sounds granular at small "Length" settings. More like a buffer effect which slices audio into much larger chunks and plays them back in interesting ways. Because it stores quite a few audio buffers at the same time, it can take some time to hear the difference when the incoming audio changes, which means at certain settingss it can create some very unusual transitions as it moves so gradually over to the new audio. Quite unique!

IMO if Apple allowed for recursive AUv3 hosting, there would be no need for Transit 2, since you could just build your own scripted “pedal board” and use multiple instances of it anywhere — energyXT-style. Can’t really do that on iOS without janky, limited, complicated, dying IAA/Audiobus routing.

Also to my ears the FX sound really decent on the desktop demo version (haven’t compared it to Turnado), and if you’re rapidly throwing a bunch of them together and modulating them, nuance might be less relevant, and extra knobs not as missed.

I could see myself using it as a rapid prototyping environment that could also fit in the final mix without regret. If I want to go deeper, I can always replace with items from my stash.

Yeah, it seems like a lot of things would open up and be a lot more functional if they did. I don't know if they did that to avoid recursion or something else, but I feel like I'd rather people have been able to shoot their CPU in the foot rather than prohibit it altogether.

Ah well. Hopefully it won't turn out to be something I don't use, but I decided to grab it for now, as it seems there is a good chance it won't be this cheap again any time soon, if ever.

  • Yeah I kind of regret not getting Transit 2 while it was on sale > @timfromtheborder said:

Fauve is amazing…it was one of most out of the blue “wtf this is awesome “ apps I’ve ever gotten . Was not expecting it to be as epic as it is, and it’s one of the reasons why my band have decided to return to our experimental roots permanently. It’s a definite “unlock creative doors” kind of trip .

Just had a 10 minute spin with it, and it's a lot of fun. It's geared entirely to on-the-fly jamming.
They've combined a stripped down version of their drum machine, Noir, Phase 8, and Trouble, allowing you the ability to change the parameters a little bit. The sequencing for the three instruments is auto generated with a little dial, so turning it will complicate the sequence, and releasing will lock that sequence into place, sort of like those Turing Machines that Eurorack has. You do have an xox style sequencer for the drum sounds though. You've got a mixer with a channel of each sound, with solo/mute options. A low cut filter that stips the end out, ala filter cuts you're accustomed to with Dj sets. The drum machine has a kick fill, roll, and kill kick buttons, and even a Rumble fx so you can get those heavy techno kicks. Again, this is a jam box, and their descriptions of it are spot on. Quick, and easy to get a jam going, and is smartly thought out for that sole purpose. There is a quick save, and a memory bank for quick recalls, but you're not going to do any several hour layout sessions in Cubasis with this. It is entirely performance oriented. I dig it.
