A bit off topic but this sales thread just resulted in something funny.

So my wife Dana and I were discussing the various Ryo Togawa synths , as she is just now getting into the work of iOS synths (she’s just now getting back into music creation after some years ) and we were talking about this thread.. She noticed that all the RT synths are on sale and asked me what the differences were in the ones I don’t have already . So I’m playing the few videos on them , mostly 30 second jobs . It’s random , so not in any order. Every single time a clip of VAPolyTS would come up , our son would look up from his toys and say I like that one. No reaction to any of the others . Just specifically that one synth’s sound caught his attention (Dana is telling me to add it certainly wasn’t the UI) to the point where he has been bugging me for the past few hours if I bought it yet . I tried to fool him with VAPolyMK2 but he could tell. So if he cleans up and puts up his toys I’m going to be buying my son his first iOS synth.

Did I mention Austin turns 4 in Feb?

That’s funny. Must have a good ear. Cheers.

I've wanted Tonaly for awhile, it's got this note app that Leo uses in a lot of his videos

Christian Thompson makes an app called AU Session Notes which is an AU app solely for keeping notes inside each project. AUM has this feature built in, but any DAW’s or hosts that do not, could probably benefit from Session Notes.

I don’t remember Tonality having notes in AU, maybe slide over? Are you sure it’s an AU for notes? Cause he might be using Tonality in slide over, or Session Notes as an AU. Tonality has a lot of stuff inside, and can do notes in slide over mode, but I didn’t think the notes were a separate Audio Unit, but maybe I’m mistaken… it’s an app full of features, so maybe I missed it.

I think @egobeats is referring to the Grand Staff app within the Tonality suite. You add it as a MIDI effect and it will display the notes that are being played by the MIDI instrument. Really helps you see what’s going on. As @egobeats mentioned, Leo uses it all the time. I picked it up after watching one of his videos on Chord Generator.

    Ohhhh notes🎼, not notes📑, 😂

Just checked on AppRaven and it looks like they’ve been the same price since launch. Where’s the sale? Is it the bundle?

It must be because I don’t recall there being a bundle. I have them all so can’t see, but bundle must be new.

Nice! I hope the dev update sonogrid. It was my favorite poly-metronome, but it doesn't open on modern iOS vers. (others' reports as well as my own). It does work on Silicon Macs, interestingly. Glad to see them back!

Wonder how volatile the discount is (do bundles often price-fluctuate independently from their apps?). Been on my intrigue-list a long time. Anybody get significant/unique use out of these?

Yes the bundle is new, well to be more accurate the bundle I think it was more resurrected since I’m pretty sure it was there before at least once, for a short time. It hasn’t been there for a decent amount of time. I think….

yes the bundle is a separate entity, each app and the bundle are all independent products with a price set by the developer separately. There’s occasional changes, but not nearly as much as a single app or IAP. Sometimes the Included apps in the bundle might change (FabFilter twin3 to 3fx bundle), or the bundle is available for a limited time only (quantovox, pagefall), or even the rare market price adjustments. If the apps in a bundle are on sale I try to remember to check any bundles as well to see if they are also discounted. Theres a lot less bundles, then apps/IAPs, and most of the time I come across them browsing they seem to stay at the same price, not bouncing around that much, other then the occasional sale.

I requested app Raven track bundle prices and I believe they said there is some type of issue, not on their end, but something that prevents them from getting the bundle price change reports, like they can with apps and IAPs. Can’t remember exactly why, but something along those lines.

I think that’s Tonality not Tonaly!

    I specifically meant Tonaly:

I usually don’t comment about price apps but having bought the app before this iap change, I wouldn’t pay $69 for it ever. It’s cool, has a nice UI, but it’s also nothing revolutionary or much better than other chord/songwriting apps that exist in iOS and desktop and are better integrated. I, in fact, tend to use Tonality a lot more on iOS.

    Good to know.

I had reached out to the developer of Scaler to ask if I were to buy Scaler 2 now, would there be a discount to upgrade to Scaler 3 when it is released (was slated for this year) - People that had bought Scaler 2 on PC just before or at Scaler 3 release got a free upgrade to 3.

But the dev said there would be no free upgrade or discount for iOS for Scaler 3 for existing Scaler 2 owners. And also that Scaler 3 is now not slated for release until sometime 2026.

I've since been looking at alternatives, and Tonaly was one on my radar, though likely one I will pass on for now.

Have a look at ChordBud 2 and the rest of the buds. Tonality is great but it does not have a chord sequencer like Scaler or ChordBud2.

I had a very brief look at Scaler 3 but did not really see any huge improvements. A part from taking the performance bar and moving it to the bottom which makes sence.

  • Oh I forgot that it’s trying to be a DAW which I really don’t care for.

That one still shows below $10, but there are new subscription options that I assumed were for use of the app. The description doesn’t say. Unless that also unlocks Chordbutter (which at $69 also strikes me as overpriced for what it seems to do — something in the same ballpark as Tunemaker which appears to be gone).
