Superb! The new strings sound awesome! Thank you

Glad you like them, as I do too!

They really bring something to the party I think. We added them back in 25.1.0 I along with Orchestral Harp and Mallets which are also cool. Anyhow, I hope you have fun with them!

Nb: For anyone working with an iOS/macOS device, it is now easy to create videos to share - so we hope to hear more of how people are using Wotja!

    Best wishes,

    Tim

  • I notice that somemtimes wotja files (e.g. schemas, mixes, albums, etc.) are stored in .json format, and other times overwritten as what looks like base-64 encoded uri streams. I was considering composing/editing these files, but it's unclear how to configure wotja so it always serializes in .json format. Any insights or references appreciated...

We periodically change the file format, and we never document how Wotja documents are stored. If you want to manipulate Wotja file types, we only support direct use of the Wotja application.

I'd suggest taking a look at Wotja Script (which we document extensively) if you haven't done so before:

    https://wotja.com/guide/#wse

We also have a simple API for users interested in using Wotja to generate background audio for apps, games etc., which is documented here - demo/starter code can be downloaded from GitHub:

    https://wotja.com/help/#developer

    Best wishes, Pete

  • I'm familiar with both of these mechanisms -- great stuff, but was scratching an itch re: gathering/composing bits and bobs elsewhere and mapping them into wotja goodness non-interactively. no worries, more than enough joy already in the box!

    thank you kindly, @impete!

  • Hi @impete, @imtim…

Getting quite crashy behaviour when trying to adjust any pattern params, eg:

Seems to crash regardless of the pattern type or parameter selected, but fairly consistent crashing in any case.

PM for more details if required?

    Thanks for letting me know!

I’m currently dealing with a tricky Android issue - Android updates are forever breaking things (!) - and will look at this once I’ve dealt with that; I will let you know if I get stuck tracking down your issue.

We’re hoping to get a minor update soon to deal with these and a couple of other issues.

Quick burst of some Wotja generated midi hosted in AUM (jAmp did the drumming this time)

    Spelldosa, Magellan, Kaleidoscope, various FX

Not a wildly complex project, sure but… finally beginning to get a sense of control over this beast!

  • Hi Folks.

Thank you for using Wotja 25! Wotja 25.3.0 is now available.

This is an improvement and bug fix update. See what's in it below.

For those who link to check out links to things, see the list on our Releases page: https://wotja.com/releases/#w25-3-0.

We hope you enjoy the update.

Best wishes from Tim and Pete

P.S. We always really appreciate it if you are able to leave or update your App Store review.

    IMPROVEMENTS

    • Plug-ins: Audio Output Setting > Audio Device shows the sample rate and estimated latency
    • Plug-ins: For better synchronization with other tracks in a DAW the estimated latency of the Plug-in is now reported to a DAW that supports that (e.g. Ableton Live 12)
    • Plug-ins: Added Audio Output Setting > Audio Block Count (previously only available in non-Plug-in variants)
    • Plug-ins: Audio Output Setting > Audio Block Count can now be set down to 2 (previous limit was 3; new default is 20) - only use such a low value if you're pushing for minimum audio latency and be aware that doing so might lead to some Wotja audio break-up issues, especially with CPU intensive content
    • Android: You can now use Audio Output Setting > Audio Device to select an Audio device (if one is detected)
    • Android: New menu item "Export (backup) from Wotja..."
    • Android: After "Import (restore) to Wotja..." is selected, and you have completed the import, an alert is shown telling you how many documents have been imported
    • Display modes now show any mix-included background image using an aspect fill instead of a stretch fill
    • Other minor improvements

    FIXED

    • Desktop Plug-ins: Cmd-W no longer closes the Documents Window
    • Android: Soft navigation bar wasn't properly supported (note that Wotja now runs in "full screen" mode - swipe up from bottom, or down from top, to reveal any 3 button soft Navigation bar)
    • Android: UI Scaling Factor has been re-implemented & matches behaviour on the other platforms
    • Android: Fixed crash report detection
    • Incorrect display of an image in a mix when the mix was played in URI Player and the device orientation changed
    • Other minor fixes

    CHANGED

    • Plug-ins: Audio Block Size for all OS now 512 by default (was 1024 for Windows, 512 for Apple)
    • Plug-ins: Audio Block Count for all OS now 20 by default
    • Android: Removed 32-bit support
    • Android: Renamed "Import to Documents/Wotja..." to "Import (restore) to Wotja..."
  • this is a cool update Tim. Thank you guys for all your hard work and dedication!

Thank you very much! We've put in a great deal of work in this update, into improving Wotja on Android, and have solved the biggest issue of getting content in and out. That said, of course, audio app connectivity remains, bluntly, much better for iOS than Android. But there are one heck of a lot of Android device users out there, that can now share their Wotja documents around all of their devices if they so wish.

We're now going to start to focus on preparing Wotja 26. Wish us luck

Hi! As a temporary fix before the update arrives, you can simply go to Settings and set the switch "Video Recording: Also Save Audio Recording" ...!

  • @d00d @god Tim and I were wondering about asking people about the current projects they're working on in Wotja, as we're just starting on Wotja 26; it might help us prioritise what we're doing!

If anybody fancies sharing what they're up to, please either post here or feel free to mail us!

  • Hi Pete and Tim,

Thanks so much for reaching out — I really appreciate you both taking the time to connect with the community and ask for feedback. And of course, thank you for all the hard work you’re putting into Wotja — it really shows.

At the moment, I’m not working on any major projects — just going with the flow and exploring creatively when the mood strikes. That said, I’d love to hear more about what you’re planning for Wotja 26! Knowing what you’re considering would definitely help me think about what features or directions I’d personally love to see more of.

One thing I can share is that I use Schemas a lot — especially for sleep and background soundscapes — and I’ve always wished for either more of them or more control over the existing ones. Maybe some extra options or tweakable parameters to personalize them a bit further?

Looking forward to hearing what’s in store!

Tim has reminded me not to mention what we're working on in case we don't manage to get it working  but it is interesting stuff!

We certainly know of Wotja users that use Schemas to help with sleep - that is very interesting. We certainly have plans to extend this area via Wotja Script, that keep getting pushed down the road by other features. We know that it is tough work to create a Schema, but that really is because they're a kind of declarative program, but without a clear syntax. So, adding Wotja Scripts support could make it easy to figure out what is required, and how to actually express that with some relatively simple code. Schemas (/Flows) kind of evolved as an idea, like many of the things we've created, and we keep thinking how to make them easier.

    Best wishes, Pete

    Hi Pete,

Totally understand about not being able to share details — and I appreciate the transparency. It’s great to hear that there’s interesting stuff brewing!

I really like the idea of extending Schema functionality via Wotja Script. That sounds like a powerful direction, especially if it helps make things more understandable or customizable without needing to reverse-engineer the logic behind existing Flows. Even something like being able to tweak a Schema’s behavior through script presets or modifiers would already open up a lot of possibilities.

Thanks again for keeping this kind of functionality in mind — it’s one of the things that keeps me coming back to Wotja.

Looking forward to seeing where it all leads!

Hi folks! Looking ahead to Wotja 26: this might sound like a stupid question, but is anybody out there still using Inter-App audio to connect their iOS audio apps?

I was wondering if the focus these days is now on very much on using AUv3 plug-ins, from a plug-in host such as AUM, LoopyPro etc.

Any host using an iOS host that supports IAA (e.g. AudioBus?), can still use Wotja in AUv3 mode, while also using any legacy 3rd party apps that don't have an AUv3 but rely on IAA.

    Best wishes, Pete

@impete has it ever been considered to make a generic distinction between mobile and desktop versions in the pricing structure or at least introduce an iOS only license ? My computing environment consists of an iPad and a Linux computer (with Windows in a VM for some Windows apps). I am not using a mac. If I understand it right, I would have to buy two pro licenses in order to get Wotja running on both my tablet and the desktop. Someone with an iPad and a Mac would be able to get the same for the price of a single license.
