JWM Jamuary 2026
So not to clutter the forum with my daily Jamuary 2026 productions and experiments, I will consolidate everything here.
This was my first entry, and it's Synthwave.
EDIT: Also, all these tracks are and will be mastered in Cubasis using my usual mastering chain. ![]()

(Ambient)
This is my second entry for Jamuary 2026. Just some Ambient done in Korg Gadget 3. The "sparkling" high pads are Chiangmai, the middle pads are Pompeii (iPolysix), and the monster bass is Montpellier (iMono/Poly). That's literally it.
Powerful! I love me some drones
Thanks kindly mate.
I love a good drone too. Great genre of music!
Two very different tracks Jim… a powerful start. Good luck with the rest of Jamuary 🙏
Thanks mate.
Glad you made that reminder thread. Right at this moment, I'm working on a Trance remix for a potential client. I showed him the short demo, and he likes it! So, I'm praying that I get a remix gig out of this.
It's very convenient to hear your 'jamuary' creations in one thread, Jim. Waiting for more.....
Cheers mate. Glad you'll be listening on the regular. ❤️
Good so far - going to have to keep checking back to this thread.
Thanks mate.
I gotta make something for today still. Been working on a beat a rapper paid me to make, but it's a private beat until the final track is released. 😂
Not sure I want to hear about you working on “a private beat”… 😂
Bwahaha! 🤣 LOL! My client likes the HipHop beat I'm making, so I asked him how he wants it structured out, and then I'll do just that. Then I will probably chuck out some quickly-made Ambient so I can keep up with Jamuary, or if not, I'll do two pieces tomorrow.
EDIT - I will do two pieces tomorrow, because producing that HipHop beat exhausted me. 😂
EDIT 2 - Nevermind, I just finished a piece of Ambient, lol.
Okay, this was quickly shat out I admit, because I had to produce a HipHop beat for a client. I attempted to try using restraint on this piece of Ambient like @rottencat does. She helped me a lot in her thread.
And I know @Pierre118 will love this, so tagging him too.
EDIT - Forgot to mention, the three synths I used were all instances of Chiangmai, and this was created in Gadget.
Excellent ambient sketch. Really nice atmosphere here. I appreciate the restraint you were aiming for — it gives the piece space to breathe, even as a quick sketch. The textures and pacing work well together, and it feels like a solid snapshot of an idea worth developing.
Did you use external fx? Cause I hear some nice modulation that’s probably not from Changmai itself.
Reverb sounds too good to be stock Gadget
Thanks mate.
Yep, this was quickly sketched out, but I listened to it last night while high and I fell asleep. 🤣 It worked for its intended purpose.
No external fx. Yes, using one stock Gadget reverb per track would suck. 🤣 I layered reverbs. One FB reverb, followed by one regular reverb. And I adjusted the release of each Chiangmai to taste to also help emulate reverb. Just little tricks I used for beefing up what's there.
It's like when you come across a pack of dry unprocessed drum samples. They may sound flimsy on their own, but once you layer up the drums and add some "secret sauce" processing, you get some solid punchy drums. Same with the lackluster reverbs in Gadget.
I’d like the new restrained Jim 😊
I would put money on that not lasting too long before we get a banger here. 😁
I love how fast you apply advices Jim. I think it pays off here! It definitely has a much calmer vibe than your other pieces. I like it!
We'll see how long that lasts, lol. I can't believe I chucked this Ambient out in roughly 30 minutes, lol. Took a little while to master it, but all done in under an hour. I like it though. Nothing too crazy going on in this piece.
Trust me, if I have a new instrumental EDM banger, you'll all be the first to hear it here. Lol. 🤣 But Ambient is easier to produce and easier on the ears.
Thanks mate.
Yessir, definitely a calmer vibe all in all.
(Trance)
Used Korg Gadget 3 for this endeavor. The gadgets are as follows...
To trigger the sidechain, I used Recife's CHat Detroit (it is silent, but it makes the sound pump). I used Bilbao for the drums. The bass was Chicago.
I used Pompei for the main lead and Lisbon for the backing lead layer. The choir pads come from Darwin, and the hidden synth to fill out the mix was Phoenix.
Both bass figures in the sections with no chord changes were Miami. String bass was also Darwin, the piano was Salzburg (one of the Ivory Grand pianos), and the riser was Brussels.
Mastered in Cubasis 3. Don't expect me to churn out Trance like this on the regular for Jamuary 2026 since Ambient is easier to produce (and easier on my brain and ears), lol.
Forgot the screenshots.
I knew you wouldn’t stay exclusively on the ambient… 😁
Lol, indeed. This Trance piece definitely required more effort and wiped me out for the rest of the day.
(Longform Ambient)
I created this one in Korg Gadget 3.
I used Dublin for the drone. Darwin, two Chiangmai's, and Kiev all make an appearance in this, but sparsely. Perhaps it is a little too busy for traditional Ambient, or maybe not. I'm not sure. Mastered in Cubasis 3 with my usual mastering chain. Enjoy it actively, or passively in the background while working on taxes, or you can skim through. Up to you how you wish to consume the piece.
And again, I layered reverbs in this piece as using one reverb alone per track in Gadget sounds too cheap to be Ambient. 🤣 Gadget's flimsy reverb sounds fine on its own in busier genres like EDM and HipHop, and since its reverb is flimsy, it mixes down well in said busier genres. But for Ambient in Gadget, ya gotta layer the reverb!
(Bizarre Chiptune Experimental Thing)
Went for something that lasts under 3 minutes since I know "Floating in an Endless Void" is a 20+ minute behemoth of a piece of music.
I used Korg Gadget 3 again! The drums are Tokyo, the bass is Miami, the S&H sound is from Wolfsburg, and the evolving chiptune sound is Kamata. You can shape your own "wavetable" in Kamata and even automate the wave amp positions for evolving timbres! Very cool to be honest!
I decided to make a second piece of music for today just in case I run out of time tomorrow as tomorrow is going to be a pretty busy day ahead.
Jim, with the last song, I actually woke up from my hypnosis, man!
Cheers, frenq
That last experimental track would sound intense on a big sound system.
Reminds me of Jamal Moss/Hieroglyphic Being (he also uses Gadget).
Lol! 🤣 Thanks mate.
Good morning/afternoon. I called it "hypnosis" since it's repetitive, but not in a boring way. I made use of polymeters in this one.
Here's a trick I learned in Gadget. You can have patterns of different bar lengths, right? And, the longest pattern is what the whole scene is based on. However, if you turn up the repeats to 2 or higher, each bar will still restart on its own length until the scene is finished.
In other words, I can have a 15-bar-long scene based on a 15-bar pattern, right? When the 15-bars are up without repeats being on, the scene will reset all the patterns. However, if the repeat is 2 or higher, the 7-bar pattern will restart every 7 bars. The 15--bar pattern will restart every 15 bars. The 3-bar pattern every 3 bars, until all the repeats are done, in which case the whole scene resets all the patterns to their starting position.
Turning up the repeats on scenes with patterns of multiple bar lengths is my trick for Ambient production in Gadget that doesn't turn stale and keeps subtle variations throughout the entirety of the piece.
Heck yeah. This one is pretty raw, with no reverb or delays being used. Just straight up dry in-your-face sound!
Ooooo, I just subscribed! This guy has that nice raw sound to his music! I love this a lot. ❤️ Now I'm inspired to dig back into Gadget for my next Jamuary piece. I did two yesterday, because I didn't know how today would go yet (other than a scheduled phone call with one of my besties), but I think I can crank out some quality Ambient before that phone call in a couple hours. Let's see if I can meet the challenge!
(Ambient)
This is a nod to Eno's "Music for Airports", both with the piano and choir motifs. Added a cello for good measure (no pun intended, haha). The piano is from Salzburg, the cello is Glasgow, and the choir sound is Darwin. The piano cycles every 5 bars, the cello every 4 bars, and the choir every 6 bars.
This one is under 8 minutes long. You can skim through, or enjoy in the background, or actively listen. Up to you. Regardless, I hope you like this one. ❤️
Okay, and one more for today.
