Just pushed a new beta version. Now you can play the audio of your clips. It will play the chopped part, in the speed you set, and even reversed

At first it murdered the beautiful performance of the app as I expected because the video player was struggling syncing the both video and audio. Then I hacked my way around and stripped the audio from the video player (like it was before), put it into my own audio engine and voilà!

Both the background audio track and the clip’s audio are mixed together in the final recording. You can also toggle the clip audio per pad including the audio level in the edit menu.

Let me know if you are happy, I’ll push this version to the app store.

Just to be clear, if you don’t want the clips audio to play like it was before, can you toggle this new setting off per pad?

Yes, in fact it's off by default. When you are importing the video clip. you may "enable" the audio quickly, or toggle them per pad 👍

Cool 😎 bought it yesterday :)

  • Loving this. What a fun way to interact with video :)

  • The new version is live. Clips have audio now!

Just finished the tutorial, added audio to play your clips to… waaay cool! 😎

Just recorded a session with an audio track I imported to play your demo clips to. The output video saved to photos is 2388 x 1688. What determines the output recording size, and can that be set?

Love this app, noticed that tapping the pads with audio enabled is a bit laggy.. doesn’t always trigger

  • Really like the quick and easy to use interface on this app. It’s a very creative concept - filled a gap that I didn’t know was there. I’ve already created a few projects.

Sold. So much more fun with the clip audio playing.

It was 1080p vertical before (iphone standard). I updated it and used the size whatever you are seeing on your screen (wysiwyg). Thats your ipad screen size.
I can add recording size options though, let me plan an update.

Yes, recording size options would be really useful so the output could be edited together with other video of the same dimensions without having to resize or crop.

Sorry to bang on about this but have you considered having an option to have iPhone sized pads on iPad so less of the video is obscured during performance? If small pads are considered acceptably functional on a phone screen, why couldn’t they be equally functional on an iPad? Might even add performance advantages as you’d be able to hold the iPad and perform just with your two thumbs? Just a thought.

    That's a great idea tbh

  • Makes sense to me

  • Ok I add the new video resolution settings with 720p, 1080p (default) and 1440p options to the settings menu. It will be live soon.

That’s handy! But, I was only asking if there was already a setting somewhere. I would have been fine with just resizing myself afterwards though. Thx 🙏

Also, I kinda like the pads on iPad as they are… so far. If you change to the iPhone-size pad (as a couple have requested) please only make that an option :)

Yes, I won't change the pad layout. It's already pretty complex because it transitions into the editing mode with slightly different behavior, tap once to select, tap again to preview.

I think I'm done with this app now. I've got very exciting plans for a breakbeat synth and a bass synth. I was also working on a new MIDI Bud but got distracted

  • This isn’t necessarily a request… only tossing it out there… what if the user could pick from various grids to use? Let’s say you only want to work with fewer pads on screen… like 4 pads instead of 16, you could select a pad grid of either 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16.

Or to simplify, maybe just select a pad grid of 4, 8, 16?

Again, not asking for this. Just thinking it may be nice to be able to only have on screen just the fewer pad grids instead of all 16 if I’m not actually using all 16.

Those are perfect size options. I’m interested in those synths! Never have enough! Thanks @cem_olcay 😎✌🏼

It’s fine like it is too… I just got the impression you were still evolving it… and I noticed from my brief play, that I personally wouldn’t use all 16 pads often… so having few pads on screen might be nice.

    Again, fine as-is too.

On a side note… I’d personally make the current $1.99 a limited launch discount while you were/are refining the app… then raise it up a bit. I would have been cool paying around $5 it, but I would’ve likely waited for some more demo videos first. At $1.99 I was willing to buy it now without thinking about it much - but would’ve eventually bought it at a higher price.

I don't like the idea of breaking the 4x4 pad-grid. It's already broken on the edit mode but it's perfectly fine and safe
4x4 layout is almost as familiar as the piano keyboard layout..

  • The new version is live with the video recording resolution settings 👍

  • The user and all related content has been deleted.

Ok. That makes sense… especially for an audio-centric main audience that may be used to 4x4 controller devices or 4x4 audio interfaces. I’m more of a photo/video graphics person than those more used to music making tools… so my preference for a choice of fewer pads is probably too niche to bother with.

Like I said, cool 😎 the way it is.

Glad you created this one, and congrats 🍾 on the launch! 🚀

Big high five to Cem for this app, and the recent rapid series of updates and enhancements.

FYI - The transitions have been tweaked in 1.06 to have more range and you can get smoother fades with just a small percentage value which is great for my needs. Definitely worth checking out.

@cem_olcay hey, I made my first thing with BeatCut… mostly as a test. While I love it 😻 I did have several problems and bugs. Latest iOS on iPhone 17 pro max.

    1. Crashing with just a few short clips and changes not saved. I have to basically constantly keep saving or it will crash and I’ll lose what I’ve done

    2. Often one clip will get stuck to one pad no matter which clip I have selected. I sometimes have to just delete the settings and clip for that pad, quit out, and start over for that pad.

    3. Sometimes I’ll add a clip and it won’t play at all in the import screen, so I’ll have to guess with the in/out points to finish the import and then it’ll play. Sometimes I have to quit out of BeatCut and relaunch it to get a clip to play.

    4. Sometimes there will be a glitch cutting to one clip. No transition, just a cut. If I start over with the play session record, and try again, sometimes that will work.

    5. Sometimes the transitions don’t work at all for one clip, then on a similar clip of the same length, etc. the transitions work ok… but fade can look pretty glitchy… and not in a good way. So inconsistent that I ultimately chose not to use any of the transitions at all.

Most of my first clips for my first test project were very short 2-4sec clips and they are high frame rate, but it still seems like there are some bugs to work out.

Love the app, and no regrets… but hoping these issues get worked out soon.

ps. Since this is under a minute, youtube tagged this as a “short” - the high frame rate and slow mo were done in camera and not in BeatCut

Awesome cut! Crashes might be related to the different frame rates or resolutions, let me check it out. Thanks for the detailed report! 🙏

Yes, I had super short clips too, which may have been making the transitions glitch out. I was also playing with black magic cam’s over/under frame rate cranking and moment pro camera ii’s HD 240fps… so yeah, not too out there but not standard clips either

The clip importing and getting a specific clip “stuck” on one pad… kinda implies other bugs though

Very cool 😎 app.. I’ll use this a lot. Maybe some slower stuff next - glad you created this :)

How to use midi as it’s not AUV3?

Have you found the settings in Beatcut? You have to enable the MIDI input at the bottom of the Settings panel. It should correspond with whatever you are sending as Output MIDI from your DAW.

What settings menu? The one that you see when you hit the bottom left "sliders" menu, that opens up effects, audio, etc, for the current cut? I see no Midi control there, nor any other settings menu.
