I'm curious to hear your informed opinion on it if you dive in Ed, especially as you were one of the few people to figure out Fugue Machine well when it first dropped🍻🍻🔥

Oh, Rubato? lol I figured out some of it. That’s an app that’s in a league of its own as you well know. I sure wish he’d update it with some legibility improvements, so us older people with aging eyesight can see the dang thing. I’ve always had 20/20 vision when I was younger, but I’ll tell ya, that is one app that’s made me realize that I should probably consider a trip to the optometrist, and see if I need glasses.

  • Very reasonable pricing, bought it immediately!

Has anyone tried using it with Nanostudio 2 yet? Is there an updated method of integrating it into NS2?

  • Getting some stuck keys after the first play around.

  • I had v1, but never got into it. This looks like it’s got a much better UI and UX - more user friendly. Good price too, definitely worth considering…

  • Not sure a bundle would work here anyway, since Scaler 2 was an IAP.

Do people find Scaler is useful if you’re not interested in the generative aspects? For better or worse, I like to come up with my own chord progressions etc. so, after watching Leo’s excellent intro video, I’m wondering if there’s other functionality which would be useful to me?

    Very useful for you!
The articulations and phrasings it can produce from your chords would be useful 🔥
I’m sure you could create some automation that could take your generative music to another level 💥

Thanks @Stuntman_mike. I think maybe you misread my post though? I’m not interested in the generative aspects, nor am I generally making generative music.

When I said ‘chord progressions etc.’, the ‘etc.’ was meant to imply that I like to write my own articulations and phrasings too. Does Scaler still have uses for a user such as myself?

Oops! Yup, I misread. Yes, you would definitely find Scaler 3 useful if you make your own articulations and phrasings if you use Scaler as way to come up with alternate takes by playing your chords progressions, articulations, and phrasings into Scaler with the record button. You can basically use Scaler as a writing partner 🙏

    Thanks @Stuntman_mike.

  • Does the MIDI export create separate files for each track (e.g. bass)?

Same here, Stuck Notes starts after clip change on One of the motion tracks, and it goes on the whole track. Same problem in stand alone.

Bluetooth headphones bugs out imediately in standalone but works in AUM.

Other than that it seem to work ok so far, theres is a relearning curve here when comparing to Scaler 2 workflow.

  • I purchased S3 this morning and loaded it in Logic Pro. The issues I had with S2 in Logic have been fixed:

    • You can now see the whole screen.
    • DAW sync works without messing with the bit rate for the whole project. This means that Scaler’s chords will now play in time with, for example, Logic Pro’s session drummers.

A negative: even when you maximize S3 in Logic, the text is small on my 11” iPad Pro.

  • Good to know @dok , thanks

Thank you for this. Also removing the mini tiles at the bottom will probably help with the text size.

  • I’m a bit confused by this. Apart from the constant hung notes how do you select any of the other tracks to receive midi input - either from its built in keyboard or the DAWS keyboard, I don’t have any external hardware. When I select a track the midi only goes to the first one.

You can use the built-in iOS Text Size tool to bump up the scaling specifically for Scaler 3 without affecting your other music apps.
    • Open Scaler 3 on your iPad or iPhone.
    • Swipe down from the top-right corner to open the Control Center.
    • Tap the Text Size (AA) icon.
    • Note: If you don't see it, go to iOS Settings > Control Center and add "Text Size."
    • At the bottom, select Scaler 3 Only (so it doesn't mess up your whole OS).
    • Slide the bar up to increase the font size.

    How do you do that?

Thank you, @Stuntman_mike, for the suggestion about changing text size.

  • edited March 20

Like the chords can be played on black keys and notes can be played on white keys. Although on my 88 key piano. Will make bad habits.

I should still be able to use an ipad to sequence another ( as chords are usually on the end of chain ) after generators and arps etc.

So could still have Scaler on reciever ipad for easy midi drag and drop or just because its where synth is.

but might be made worse for stuck notes etc ?

( Im just talking to myself )

I thought Id just use something like chordam, if it wernt for the chord and note mix ( on same keybed )

    Gemini is hallucinating.

There is a way to customize text size in apps. It’s under Accessibility -> Per-App Settings. You add the app and then set text size.

However, the app itself has to support dynamic text sizing. I don’t know if Scaler 3 does, but I kinda doubt it.

Had stuck keys, but a reboot seems to have fixed it.

Feels a bit jumpy and buggy though - for example deleting a chord just doesn’t work 95% of the time, then suddenly they might all vanish. I’m hoping this is user error, but the fact it sometimes works, suggests not.

These things always look better in the demos…

Update: nope, ‘delete chord’ is random as hell on my M2…

At the bare minimum, people should test and make sure their advice actually works before posting it under the assumption that it’s correct. Otherwise they are not contributing anything helpful, because anyone who wants to go to AI for help can easily do so themselves.

Absolutely, let's please knock this trend on the head

  • Anyone else having issues deleting chords, or is it just me? The pop-up menu seems to have almost no effect, whether deleting, editing, doubling etc. to the selected chord (standalone).
