One thing I’d love within song mode is if it used the mutes mode when song building so when you hit a pad mute (or if it’s already muted) the part doesn’t record in song mode except for when the pad is unmuted.
So basically you can record a song via pad mutes
And/or if you could automate the mutes so it remembers them after the fact while playing back a song and muting pads.
Maybe it can already do this and I’m doing it wrong, but whether or not a pad is muted or not, if its part is playing, it records in song mode as unmuted.
(I would request this directly from Jim or read the manual, but I’m getting a certificate expired warning when trying to load his website, so I’m wary)
No idea on the GR-II workflow (my device is old lol)
But based on GR-16, have you seen people doing Ambient on Electribe 2 (on which GR-16 is based on)?
Maybe not easy to tackle, but awesome
You'll definitely have to DM me a video or two of that. I'm interested to see that in action.
just for the information:
multicore support confirmed. (that's why it's going to support 3rd party plugins in effect slots.)
but there are certain issues with current implementation of this feature.
Wow, that's impressive. That will be quite a feat. I can barely imagine how difficult it must be to get right.
super-hyped on this. the app is gold, only sometimes I hit the limitations and think I could move my music forward without these limits. but it helped me to finally enjoy finishing tracks, so such limitations are still a very low price.
Wow, can’t wait!

I find it quite straightforward to do in GR-16.
4-voice polyphony is usually sufficient, you can layer tracks, import synth pad samples if you find the internal synth not good enough... quite fun actually.
Multithreaded audio in gr2 wow.
Only a year after initial release too!!
That’s some hustle!! Would love to see other devs make this a priority.
i barely dare ask: will the sidechaining capabilities of the auv3's be usable?
I wonder how one dev can do this in such a small timeframe! Really one of the greatest!
I can only imagine it comes with a consistent and small roadmap that isn’t ever expanding; combined with a personal vision of what the product should provide. Probably has some great consult too.
Updated !
AUV3 effects now in the effects slots. Amazing. Arguably the best groove box including hardware.
Awesome work Jim! ... if you're silently lurking out there. 😎
Can you automate auv3 parameters? Or p-lock them?
Also, can you record audio into the sampler? I checked the manual and it seems you can’t.
Epic!!
For instruments you can record and edit automation for up to 9 assignable parameters per plugin instance. For effects ... doesn't look like it from my exploration so far.
Side-chaining is supported for FX plugins.
Yes. External audio, or very flexible resampling.
Yes. Here is an example with a moog delay fx.
Thanks @cyberheater and @wim!
Let's fuckin goooo. Thank you so much Jim!
How? Thanks!
I just tweaked an effects knob when recording.
Thanks. It turns out the FX that I was using doesn't report AUv3 parameter changes to the host like it should. That's a problem in all hosts with such plugins. Fortunately, once the parameter is recognized by tweaking it, you can at least edit the automation.
[correction] the macro knobs aren't required for parameter automation recording provided the plugin reports its parameter changes properly to the host.
I'm getting an increase in available resources in GR2 with my A12x ipad with multicore enabled for sure, but it does not hold a candle to Cubasis 3's implementation. I can load the same three synths that max out GR2 with multicore enabled and buffer optimized for my ipad, into Cubasis, and then add 2x more on top without even touching 50 percent.
Edit: Make sure to put enough load on GR2 to even make multicore function!!
Mariana and J8 next to Pure Acid drums was not even enough to push me off of one core. I loaded Microwave 1 and Blofeld next to it after posting and the CPU usage cut in half and stopped twitching to 100%. All good
Incorrect information.
