Hi @MatthewAtZenbeats , would you be able to offer any insight as to what internally is the thoughts or directions with MPE over there? It's interesting that the few big and most historical Japanese names, Roland, Yamaha and Korg are completely absent from the expressive synths pool. Moog as the really old name being the exception being all in on MPE in their software, and the slightly younger but nowadays massively established Arturia, U-He, Serum, Vital, Surge XT etc are also really good on this, as are Ableton and Bitwig. Waldorf are sort of half way there. And of course plenty of smaller and boutique offerings.. Virsyn, Bleass, 4Pockets, Audio Damage, Imaginando, the Mod Osc remake of the Buchla ID700, Tal's Uno LX which is an MPE Juno 60, the Synclavier Go etc etc etc. Myself I don't buy any synth that isn't MPE capable, which rules out Roland, Yamaha and Korg for now. So just wondering, what are the thoughts there? Given MPE is absorbed in to the far broader set of possibilities of Midi 2.0 we might have thought there'd be some Midi 2.0 movement over there with Zenology? But from the outside it seems like the old big 3 Japanese names are just going to stay out of expressive synthesis, until it's impossible to ignore?

Exactly. Tbh this not being mpe means I have very little interest in it.

Got to agree here, after snagging a cheap Roli seaboard with included equator synth, going through the MPE presets was a revelation. Unfortunately it does mean moving more towards MacBook instead of iPad but Idam means I will still be able to use my favourite AUM alongside. One of the biggest advantages of the seaboard/MPE is that it allows very rudimentary keyboard players like myself to have some of the emotional expressivity that a proper keyboard player has through being able to actually play. ;-)

That's a really great point haha. I'm also not a good keyboard player at all (I sing and play rhythm guitar) so this is also maybe part of the reason mpe appeals. But also, for drone music, ambient etc, and many other genres and moods, I'd argue that mpe is just objectively superior to non mpe. Once you're used to it, any non mpe keyboard-based instruments just feel like such a massive downgrade.

  • Just to report that I got a patch exported and imported into the MC101 successfully. I'd been putting out in the wrong sub-folder. I guess it's a long time since I looked at the manual.

Sorry for the misinformation - the patch seems to transfer across very well. For me, this will make this app pretty much essential.

  • A 'complete' GM/GS sound bank would be nice in Zenology GX especially after Roland pulled the plug in the iOS Sound Canvas.app...

“Over 4000 (expandable to 11,000+) expertly crafted tones in a wide range of genres”—-
So this free version for iPad comes with 4,000 sounds , right ? Once we buy it how do we add the rest? Additional expansion packs ? Are they available now?

The tentative free experience has access to over 4k sounds now and we'll be adding new sounds over the next few updates to use during the free promo period. Getting access to all 11k sounds will require buying them or being in a paid membership before that, we'll be implementing the ability to install the packs directly in the ZENOLOGY GX browser so we should be able to keep the initial download of the app reasonably sized.

I'll keep everyone updated on the timeline of the free experience and what's coming next. Right now, our top 2 priorities are completing the AU plugin and adding support for Pro Edit parameter access.

That's great to hear! Excited about using this in my usual applications. Would also love that extra editing power, and to also dissect how some of the presets are evolving. Quite a lot of great presets present, so having 7,000 more is also exciting news to hear.

I've played around with this a bit more and am pretty sure that the low volume issue is due to velocity settings. Also velocity sensitivity is set quite high in some of these patches.

Personally not a big issue because it's pretty easy and quick to adjust using the link buttons. A global fixed velocity would be cool though, and would also keep the factory velocity settings intact. It already exists in the arp/chord section (which btw is quite cool), so hopefully shouldn't be difficult to add.

Other than that I'm liking this a lot, and the ability to export patches to hardware is a plus. I will probably pass on zenology pro for now, though may still grab it later on. Curious to know what a lifetime key for this ends up costing.

I’m curious about this. Is the process fairly simple? Can banks of patches be exported or only single patches? What hardware are you using?

You just export to svz, and I believe it has to be in the correct folder as Matthew specified. Then copy it over to the sd card or storage used by your hardware.

I don't own Zenology Pro, and afaik that has more export options e.g. that can also export to sdz (banks), while svz is for single patches. Also look into how to get samples to work.

It should work with any zen-core hardware.

EDIT: I noticed some odd behaviour on the forum. This post appears when logged in but is not visible when logged out. Never seen that before.

Any idea when AUv3 will arrive. Are we talking weeks or months?

    Thanks for the reply!

  • Can you please provide your workflow for this? Did you need to go through a pc and one of the other cloud apps? Or can you just save from iPad to the MC memory card and then shove it into the MC to load?

Co-sign…I’d love a lil video demo to export from iPad into the MC707!

    Hey Guys,

Thanks for your patience. We're working on it. I'm not at liberty to discuss release time frames but as I mentioned above, it's our top priority and we will be bringing out during the free period.

I'll share more news and updates when I can... sooner than later :-)

"Sooner than later". So, in another 4 months rather than in 4 years. Got it. 🤣 (I'm joking by the way, obviously. I'm glad you're interacting with us mate.)

  • So this got released May 13 and it’s now May 25. What month do you think the AU version will release?

I honestly can’t believe how slow Roland are.

Probably July if that's what @MatthewAtZenbeats considers "early summer".

  • He didn’t which early summer!

    Sorry, recycling old material now.

I can. They have a huge product line and currently owning a Fantom and. SP-404 mk2 you are lucky if you get one update a year. The software side is faster. Zenology Pro updates around 4-6 times a year.

  • I honestly can’t believe how slow Roland are.

Honestly, I would not call them slow.

    Quality software engineering takes time.

I’m starting to think vibe-coded apps may have broken everyone’s sense of how long real software takes 😆
