Don't be too put off by IAA problems. The Fabfilter plug ins are not IAA. They are built in to Auria (and predate IAA) and very rarely have issues as far as I know. In fact in a perfect world devs would be making Auria versions of all their apps.

monzo IAA sucks, that's exactly why the native effects such as the Fabfilters are so much better to use.

With IAA there is no state saving, so it's not really viable to use IAA in a live mix, you have to mixdown the effect. The native Auria effects are at least a million times more convenient and reliable.

Ah right I didn't realise that, thanks, I thought they'd work like Turnado. I think I need to reinstall Auria anyway though - weird things happening. In the same song sometimes different versions of the built in effects and Turnado appear (mono, and mono/stereo), and when applied audio comes out of one channel only (e.g. Left), but after a relaunch of the app single versions appear and stereo's back on. Weird, and frustrating. And then on the 'dodgy' track I couldn't add extra effects at all due to the warning message.

I'll probably get Timeless, but just that one until I've sorted the Auria issues.

What's the best way to back up your work, before an Auria reinstall?

Dropbox. You can save projects to Dropbox from within Auria. Then if you delete and reinstall Auria you can load the projects straight from Dropbox.

....if i would use dropbox to backup my 20GB Auria folder...well,THAT would take some time here.Probably a week or two :)

I have a question regarding the Fabfilter Timeless 2 plugin: Is it still the case, that Timeless does not receive tempo-data from auria? In this case the note-setting adjustment would only work correctly with tempo set to standard 120 bpm, or tuned manually to the adjusted tempo via bpm/delay-calculation. While this is not that big of a deal, the oscillators would not receive a reset, based on the song-tempo, if it is different to 120 bpm. I've checked for a automation-command to reset oscillators, but did not find any. Are there ways to overcome this? With fast oscillators that is perhaps not a problem, but I see trouble with slow ones, to get replicable results.

  • Fabfilter plugins can all sync tempo with Auria, this is confirmed by Rim on the Auria forum.

Thanks! I've seen, this has been discussed in the forum, but have not found a thread were it is confirmed as solved now. I've bought Timeless and am very impressed by it. Sadly my budget is to tight for Pro C and Pro L. But I have already Pro Q, which is really great!

Just bought Pro-MB, Love this more than any plugin except Saturn... Hope you are Pro-MB fan!

@richardyot Could you give me a direction, what to search for, where delay-sync to auria tempo is confirmed? I've searched for "delay" in the auria-forum and the most recent one about this matter was this: (edit - I've removed the link, cause I don't know if it is allowed to crosslink into other forums) In short - it was about a question regarding automated temp-sync of psp-echo, which was answered by a forum member, who pointed to manual clalculation of delay time.

This seems not to indicate, that there is any automated sync of delays to Auria tempo. Searching further does only reveal infos about syncing delay-time via calculations or setting the tempo manually where it is possible. But timeless offers only time-setting.

  • edited July 2015

the forum isn't letting me post the link, but I searched for "tempo plugin" and Rim's answer was on page 7 of the results.

(edit) I'll see if I can sneak the link in now:

  • @richardyot Many thanks! This one, I have missed obviously. Great - that Fabfilters are supporting tempo-sync to Auria. I'm not sure, if it was really necessary, to buy Timeless, cause I already own PSP-echo. But the extensive modulation-options are nice to have on hand. I'm loving delays! :) Auria is a great peace of software. Slowly, I'm starting to transfer cubasis-projects into it, in oder to make use of the fx-quality and the better mixing options with subgroups. I think, even the channel-strip compressors and limiters are totaly great to work with.

    :)

  • So...... With Saturn, and Timeless, when I add them to a track, then close out the app, go back to it later, bring the plug-in up, and it is back to default? I know this doesn't happen when I use Pro-q, why doesn't it save the preset setting I chose? Any ideas

    Thanks

Weird, that's never happened to me. The settings have always been saved when I've used them.

  • edited July 2015

Pro-Mb is not back to default. Plugin and apps still on the slots! I thought it is a good way to save your time since you wasn't close them by yourself. Preset system could be deep and better, But you know Auria needs to fixed so many things. Spare it for another day!

I have very infrequently run into a similar problem, where a plugin would turn itself off on reload. Tends to happen when I've been running Auria for hours and/or with a constant heavy CPU load. Only a few times and only on a few projects. I would suggest saving your desired settings as a preset, followed by a hard reboot. Then select your preset and hopefully smooth sailing from that point forward.

  • Speaking of presets
Can you create a nice Auria template and have it load up when starting a new project ?

  • edited July 2015

@Musikman4Christ You could create a "blank" project and setup your group assignments, etc, load as needed and save as ... Can't remember if Auria Pro will be bringing bonafide templates. Quite possibly, maybe?

  • I see so instead of selecting new project select load. But I don't quite recall if there's a save as option.

  • Thanks for the insight/ideas guys. Appreciate it.

"Menu > Save Copy of Project"

  • I've had a slightly weird thing in both Volcano and pro C where for some reason it's suddenly set output and input to -8DB. It seems like some safety setting that kicks in or something if you are going too loud.

But it's a bit annoying. Especially when you don't notice it.

    Anyone else come across that?

  • Another question... If you see that your kick drum is clipping in its own channel strip but you have a master limiter on the master. Is that ok? Or not?

It sounds great. And I'm hoping the limiter on the master will prevent and nasty distortion. But it is going right up to the clipping point on its own channel strip on every hit.

  • Clipping on the individual channels is fine, only the Master matters.

  • Ah. Brilliant. Thanks! That makes sense then. My kick drum devotedly needs limiting to make it fuller :).

    That's really useful. Much appreciated.

  • Did you get Pro L in the end? If so you will be able to push that drum beyond the limits of decency.

As this thread has evolved to such a formidable knowledge base, may I come again to you with a question, that seems essential to me?

I record 3 seconds of whistling with the internal mic, import it in auria. on the channel strip, how exactly do you influence the recording's inherent 'hiss'?

Please, if you could go in the details regarding the settings of the expander's thresh., range, gain and eq? My experience is limited, had some success with settings like deabling the -24 option on threshold, then lowering the range near -∞ , activate the monitoring on the eq, go under 2k on the upper(=low) and below 1k on the lower(=high) etc. the gate full ... Attack, Release didn't seem to relate ... and I couldn't reproduce it one min. later.

I'm afraid, I'm bothering you ... Thank you nonetheless;)

Don't know about you all pros! clipping is clipping! No matter it is master or single channel, It could change the spectrum!

In this situation I think you need more appreciation of the Pro-MB's subtlety to dynamically elliminate that part of signal and preserve the puchyness of your liking! my amateur thinking!

Btw, reduce that clipping on sigle channel, boost that drum signal on master from Pro-MB.

Like @kaikoo said, in digital land, clipping is clipping. Note though the indicator may show clipping before there is any actual +0db clipping—you might ask @rim. Also important to remember that with 44,100 samples per second (or more depending on your project), having 200 of those samples clip will be completely inaudible but the meter may show an over as soon as a single sample clips.

But whatever. If it sounds good don't sweat it.

  • No, it's fine to clip on a single channel, really. The only channel that is limited and that can actually distort is the Master.

Gating can only make the quiet passages quieter, if the hiss is actually audible during the whistling then it's going to be very hard to fix.
