@azul3D_Apps dude you rock. It blows my mind how often you add new features. You're a special one. Thank You.
+1 to what egobeats posted. You have made and continue to make a great app! Thanks.
@egobeats, @dav thanks! Piano Motifs has a wonderful user base which is very supportive and wildly creative, that’s very gratifying and encouraging.
“ Piano Motifs is not an AI app, it uses music theory algorithms to generate its music.”
The best thing about music theory is that composers keep adding additional theories as time progresses. Coding those theories is really a challenge and I compliment your ability to render pretty coherent sounding music.
I think an AI app that applies something along the lines of the LLM ideas of importing files to create a table of statistical probabilities would be well received as a general MIDI “composition” generator… we’ll just need to see the backlash against AI as a technology settle so it looses the
Reputation as “plagiarism on seroids”. The odds that such a Musical LLM would re-create an existing piece of complex music is slight, IMHO. But when the LLM Chat programs start adding features like “imitate the writing of…” then the push back starts.
I just finished an audiobook and noticed the “opt out” declaration from the author for uses in AI systems.
Most college music theory when I went in the 70’s focused exclusively on the theories of “serious” music and didn’t teach anything related to Jazz.
Within 5 years of graduation the Music Program initiated a Jazz Studies focus in parallel with the classic path. Not sure if students could avoid being exposed to both paths.
Meanwhile, the Berklee College of Music added tracks for Americana, Music Production and Audio Engineering since all the local schools were moving into the Jazz Education market.
Lately I’ve been asked a lot if Piano Motifs is AI. It makes sense, AI is permeating everything. Like you say, AI for music generation doesn’t necessarily have to start with previous work. An AI agent could be fed music theory concepts like tintinnabuli or 12 tone serialism, and generate music accordingly.
A new version of Piano Motifs (v4.114) is now available. What’s new in this version:
• Added BPM Phrasing when in Non-Sync mode. Set the BPM offset, the phrase length and how to apply the BPM offset using 4 different BPM types: Accelerando, Ritardando, Arch or Reverse Arch. (AUv3 MIDI Plug-In Only).
• Fixed issue where the MultiChord Bar settings In the Program Chord Progression Screen is cleared when you press the Randomize die and the Chord Progression is locked.
• Fixed Issue when retrieving a Host session where Piano Motifs is in non-Sync mode. If you go back to Sync mode, the motif is lost. (AUv3 MIDI Plug-In Only)
Please note that BPM Phrasing is only available in Non-Sync mode. To enter this mode press the SYNC button. Then to program BPM Phrasing, long press the SYNC button. Use the new BPM phrasing to add expressiveness to your motifs by varying their tempo.
Here is an example of a motif using the new feature:

Unbelievable support my guy! 🏆🏆🏆
Thanks, trying to add more value to Piano Motifs.✌️
An example of Piano Motifs using BPM Phrasing + Velocity Offsets, for a more expressive performance:
Wow, wow, wow, love the new Added BPM Phrasing (Accelerando, Ritardando, Arch or Reverse Arch). It sounds just lovely and so easy to dial in instead of setting up LFOs, etc. Thank you, @azul3D_Apps !
Thanks Tim! If you combine this with the Velocity Curves in the Arrangement Screen and add some Random Velocity Variations, the motifs gain in expressiveness.
+1 for piano motifs in general. 🙂
Will give it a try!
