UI is messed up, text is a mess and nothing in the menu to change it.

There's nothing about display settings other that light/dark in my settings menu

Sometimes people are too quick to judge. I'm sure we've all been guilty of that at times. But also, the presets really could be better, pity the dev doesn't collab with a sound designer prior to release. Even more important, the AppStore description is terrible, it doesn't mention anything about the interesting features of the synth, no mention of per note expression etc. Madness...

I do wish the modulation was actually visualized on the knobs.

Got it, thanks for that. So I have to change the global setting for one synth and ruin all other readability. Not going to be able to do that.

You can do per app settings too using control-center, just add the text-size widget first.

Considering how much music I’ve released commercially using custom presets I made with Iceworks synths , I’d be more than open !

The dev has been criticized before about the presets he ships with his synths.

I should say his apps have been criticized for the presets they ship with. Which strange maybe

(As a side note many great banks by talented forum comrades have been made available for his instruments, maybe this one too eventually)

I laughed when I saw this in the AppStore description for Mochizuki:

That's great, thanks for the post or I may have just moved on.

Have anyone gotten the arpeggiator to work? I can open the window, but the arp on/off toggle is utterly unresponsive and the same goes for the dropdown menu to choose the arp style. (I’m on 18.7.7)

Ok, the issue is fixed in the latest update. :-) And I still think the synth sound great!

  • it does sound great, and I appreciate the extremely thorough feature set (macros, arpeggiator, "MPE", modulation system)

you can tell this is mature development from an experienced synth builder.

but it is also a subtractive synth with the usual waveforms and signal flow, it's hard for me to get excited by it when I have so many of these already.

  • edited July 14

I think the resonator is one of the things that you don't find in most subtractive synths. The main thing for me is that I really like the inbuilt mpe keyboard, it's very easy to get mpe patches going in this. That said, I really wish I could lock parameters (like my modulation settings for example) so they wouldn't change when I change presets. There are a few other things that could be improved imo, but this is, for the most part, a pleasure to use.

  • yes the resonator and AM/FM settings do provide a bit of extra innovation, the resonator is a very iconic IceWorks sounds, too.

the MPE is fun to play with, but I tend to sequence and not play my synths so it is less of a draw for me.

I see this as the flagship subtractive synth for him, largely matching the feature set of Nambu. I still feel I'd reach for LaGrange or Kronecker first if I owned this though :/

I'll continue to play with it, maybe it surprises me!

  • And then there's the brilliant iceWorks arp too...

My policy with this dev is buy what he makes, ever since since Argon and Xenon.

“Argon.” That’s a real blast from the past. I still have it loaded on one of my older iPads.

  • the factory presets are well done as well I think.

  • Im just trying it out for the first time and the dev is correct that it is NOT MPE. Note pressure is not actual per-note aftertouch. This synth does not respond to per-note aftertouch. Oh well.

It definitely does. I used it that way with Salome, for example

I''m using it with Linnstrument and it definitely doesn't over here. I can load a dozen other synths that do and then Mochizuki doesn't. I wonder what would be different between Salome and Linnstrument.

I'll bet you're setting the wrong mod source. His naming is confusing. Think you need to use the one called note pressure or note aftertouch, or something (from memory. If that doesn't solve it, email the dev, it's human error for sure)

That's the one I'm using, note pressure, and it does not do anything. Note slide works, so cc74 is implemented. According to me, and I believe why the dev says its not MPE note pressure is not actual note pressure

Contact the dev maybe, it definitely worked for me.

May be misremembering that it was note pressure, there was definitely one option that worked. Unless something got broken in an update

Definitely a difference between Salome and Linnstrument. I won't contact the dev because he pointed out its not MPE. So i'd be asking him to do something that's not offered.

After trying all options, all Linnstrument configurations I can confirm, Mochizuki is not MPE.
