Wow ! Nice track ! Nice mix too ! And what a voice ! Awsome work, congrats !
Ok, this one is very special, i have hard time listen to it entirely, but i'v actuelly liked the end ! Remind me of blade runner universe ! (Vangelis!!!)
Awsome drum ! Good instrumental, and well managed vocals samples ! Maybe a lead instrument may help feel this track more "full" to me, but it still very well managed as it is !
Wow !!! What a rich universe ! Congrats, everything is good and origial in this track !
Awsome ! Just brillant ! For me, the best one of june ! Congrats !
What a weird track ! The end is really chaotic, nicely managed !
Thanks for the kind words ! Pleased you like it !
Glad you like it !
Yep the drum is the maybe too loud on this one, i have to watch that on the next one.
Thanks for the feedback.
Thanks a lot mate !
Thanks, well, the sceen is full of reflection, so i think i get what do you mean.
Thanks for the feedback !
^^ well, thanks for this "mystical" feedback ! Glad you like it !
Merci beaucoup !
Here, finally, is another round of reviews. I think I'll just try to chime in as we go from now on. This shouldn't be a chore. Here are the songs I thought I could riff on. If you're not included here, you either know exactly what you're doing already and don't need any of my help this month, or you're a lunatic and I have no idea what you were thinking.
@theconnactic - Maracajá
My favorite track of yours. Satisfyingly off kilter, loose and a little grittier like I like. Marc Ribot all over, and I loved the break in the middle. Everyone should go break their songs in half and see what's inside.
@orchardman - Flying Henry Home
Sounding very good. My favorite of yours, too. It has a nice spartan quality to the mix. This, combined with the vocals, is very reminiscent of the Magnetic Fields when Claudia Gonson is on the mic. That said, the bass is a bit too buried and light in my opinion. Also, when the rhythm guitar comes in at 2:38 I think it's a bit heavy and panned too far over. Same for the organ that comes in at 3:03. It sends the whole mix too far to one side to my ears.
@fRAS - Soundglass
Fun. I want to see the French-dubbed copy of "The Neverending Story" spliced with Scopitone movies and fractals that this was written to accompany. Send me a link, please.
@JohnnyGoodyear - Love at First Sight
Damn it. What is it about your songs that make me want to hear a big gospel choir? Not that it needs it. I just want it. I'll send off an email to the Neo-Soul Keys guys to get an app whipped up for you right away. Anyway, strong submission this month. Only a couple things— I like the orch swells but I would prefer they didn't happen rhythmically. I want them long and less frequent— subtly punctuating a lyric and/or heightening a pause perhaps. Also, just an idea, at the end I wanted it all to come back suddenly, with a cracking distorted solo of some kind to jarringly release the tension. Please consider collaborating with someone to achieve something like this on one of your tracks some time. Could be amazing.
@Halftone - Which Way Would You Choose
Sounds good. Carry on. @JohnnyGoodyear might have a favor to ask.
@gburks - Under the Starlight
I'm getting a Chumba Wumba/Polyphonic Spree vibe and that's cool. I likey. To that end, I'd like to hear the overdubs pumped up even more (but keep one voice forward and centered) and with a little more reverb and space. I also want to hear something else spacey going on deep in the mix to add some sonic depth of field. That periodic whistle has some of that spacey delay I'm looking for. I would also pare down the duration, or replace part of the song with a left turn diversion before the listener gets tired (see "break your song in half", above).
@tGiG - Lady Lovibond
I like this very much, as usual. It has a beat I can march to. I guess that's my lone gripe, though— that your songs seem to march in a straight line, and I want to see more curvy hips on their reclined waveforms. I know you're prolific, so if you were to find a way to stitch some of your disparate efforts into longer, windier journeys I'm sure I would double dig it. One thing to mention— the organ lying under this track seems to get things discordant at points. I might investigate nudging the pitch in a few spots. Oh, and that warble synth at the end doesn't just break the song, but destroys it in the "good" discordant kind of way. Nice job. I do think it needs movement in the soundfield, though. You can have a lot of fun in panning that madness around.
almost forgot @deltAdata - Anywhere anything
Very nice and professional, as others have said. Same goes for the drum levels. Nothing to add, really, except that aside from being very good it also made me wish I used Samplr more often, and that I had time enough to sit in a field whilst using said Samplr. Just jealous, mostly. Thanks for your kind comments, btw.
@crouchie thanks for feedback, I'm very pleased! Interesting remark regarding the bass. Firstly I thought you meant the bass is too clean in the mix, but it's probably the sample itself. Yes I was obsessed to do the most in Figure, I love to make basslines there , though I am not always very happy with the sounds it provides. About Figure and it's limitations has been written here a lot
@Bluepunk basically they are just responsible for the sound they do
But I know what you mean. They are also able to move themselves anywhere , through walls, with no limits in fractions of time - that's very interesting attribute of a sound
They can decide to produce no sound as well - funny part where the musicians got mad because their instruments produced no sound - just the kids having fun with the glass knew ..
thank you for your feedback - so detailed... the kick - yes you're right, this could work better, I definitely try the adjustments you suggest. The icky stop - I like that spot too, nice accident as always.
@TGiG yes I sang in the end. But I sang it much better always when no record button was on
@aaronpc
(if i understood well
@Halftone
interesting beginning of the track, made me focused, then the guitar comes, which sounds so cool.. though missing some point in the structure. I like the overall sound.
@JohnnyGoodyear
limerence - thank you - that's me in the past too. (why not now?) One of the significant pieces here. the length fits the poem perfectly - leaves a space to think.
another notable and unique piece this month. hmm. and it sounds very pleasant too.
I just noticed that @rickwaugh didn't post anything this month. Or will he...?
Btw, thank you for the review, @aaronpc!
cinematic
interesting atmosphere. I wonder what apps you did it with ?
I have been stupidly busy, had a few health issues, and just needed a brief breather. I have one piece written that I'm hoping to record soon, and another one started. I just went and met a fantastic composition teacher last night, and I'm going to start with her in the fall. As Arnie said, I'll be back.
.....makes inevitable note in file etc.
Thanks Mister A. I hear you in most respects. Interestingly, I have been thinking that this music thing might get on to the next level if someone got together with other people and made music together . Sort of like a group of people or a band of people. That kind of thing. I understand pretty much why most folks here don't choose to (at this point anyway), but then I think most here are musicians whereas as root I'm a writer who sings a bit and would no doubt benefit from the right collaboration. Now if I only lived in a town which had a few other musicians in it....
Strangely, I'm in quite the other boat, in that most of my friends are musicians, whereas I only speak "sounds that sound nice together". When I try to collaborate with them, we just end up looking at each other like polynesians from different islands.
Sorry. Out of time. A measly contribution from me. Pathetic even. Blast from my past & further to Mister Goodyears "Band" idea...........we went from punk pop to just pop in a week & from 300 bpm to 4 in the same period. Harmonies as well for goodness sake! You can tell by the lacklustre tub thumping, my heart wasn't in it. Please, not worthy of comments as its late & purely a token effort.
It says 11 mins but the same song twice. My fault, rushing. Got to dash as my wonderful Welsh friends are waiting to take me to the boozer to watch a "real" football team! I fear a long night no matter the outcome!
@bluepunk Whoa!!!! Seriously man?? I need more of a back story...this is simply the best song I've heard on this forum...its fucking amazing! Is that you singing the lead? It is isn't it? I knew it...you can really sing mate!? It's catchy as all hell...man...you should be really proud of this track!! Lovely backing vocals...damn,and I know you ain't using guitarism on this shit!?? I loved every second of it...be proud of it mate!
@Bluepunk I'm with LostBoy - this song is excellent in just about every single way! Stand tall and allow yourself a grin - top job!
@bluepunk I did for a second think that you might have gotten @richardyot to do one of his legendary musical outros hence the 11min tag!!

Depends on the year of release, but I think you may have to sue REM for nicking all your ideas...triffic pop, but I'm sorry baby I have to leave this way and while I'm about it; please return your safety pins to the local office, your punk credentials have been hereby terminally revoked
Hey, @Bluepunk: what a song! I cannot point anything that's not great in it. Congrats! I see a hit: do a nice videoclip and enjoy the fame!
DING DING WE HAVE A WINNER.
That was an epic pop song, well done. More of those please. The guitar playing is really fucking great, how the hell did you play that solo at the end? Love the jangly rhythm guitars as well, and the vocal melody is beyond awesome. It's a great song and I fully expect to hear this on the radio one day. It's quite handy that you posted it twice in one track, cos as soon as it ends I want to hear it again.
@LostBoy85 @eustressor @JohnnyGoodyear @theconnactic @richardyot @all.
Thank you for all your great comments. I can't take all the credit for this though. As I hastily tried to explain (not well enough) in my intro last night, I had 3 very big, very impatient Welshmen pushing me through the front door towards the football as I was trying to type & upload.
Sorry for not making this clearer, this was a song we (the band, as it was) wrote & recorded with real guitars & drums. I failed to get a song out this month & as a token gesture, I chose a tune from one of my very few decent, past songs as a cheap replacement. A cop out on my behalf & I can only apologise about any grey area impressions my rushed, badly written/explained intro gave.
The lead vocal wasn't me.....I tried but it didn't suit the song so only backing, drums & Tranny van driving from me
I left after this song because of the change in musical direction, the lowering of the bpm ....oh & an article(s) about the bass players chaotic private life in a tabloid! Poor bloke.
I now realise I may have been disrespectful to the clubs rules by contributing this & sorry again for not making it clearer that this is me from a previous incarnation before reverting back to my default setting of punk.
But, now, I can appreciate this style of pop music & maybe if I hadn't been so stubborn about trying different, more commercial sounding stuff back then, we could've had a tidy future. I just didn't feel it in my veins. I do now.
Thanks again & maybe after hearing a reminder of what I used to be capable of, (a lot has changed in a short time) it will give me the confidence to go try & write that "one decent song" once more.
Apologies for any confusion. I feel bad about this. Back to default next month
Nothing to feel bad about. You've just demonstrated a standard you need to surpass moving forward, whatever genre you feel like making/playing. Here, have your safety pin back. Didn't feel right holding on to it.
@Bluepunk no worries at all, thanks for the explanation and no harm done, I really enjoyed listening to that song.
That really works and the sub is a beauty!! Would've just liked a little variety in there, just to break the main hook up a little, but as u say you are going to revisit it and that bloody good stuff for an hours work! Great tune.
Well that's great, brilliant tune, well structured if perhaps a touch long. Really impressed. Only complaint was the snare, too muddy for me, but that's a tiny thing. Like the funky/psychedelia feel, and after a couple more listens I just wondered if cranking the bpm up a bit might give it an even better edge. But really, it's so much better than the tripe I crank out, great stuff and well done!
Liked that, nicely paced, clever song, got a bit of Thom yorke in there. How did u get that distorted effect on your vocal early on? Been trying to get that feel but can't quite find it. The 'he's a swivelhead' line works a treat, lovely drop. Like it a lot.
