How long will you continue support for AB 2? (I ask because I imagine not everyone will update right away).

We won't add any new features to Audiobus 2 anymore and we see Audiobus 3 as the direct replacement for Audiobus 2. The plan is to make Audiobus 3 a must have upgrade from day 1 for any Audiobus 2 user. It's just so much better, really.

Will we be able to use AB3 as a mixer?

    Yes.

    @Dchild said:
And can I map my midi controller?

To the Mixer? Mhh... maybe in 3.1? Is this super important to you for it to be in 3.0?

This is essential for me and my live playing!
This is the (not the only)reason why i use AUM insteed of AB since AUM is launched!

I'm guessing it's possible to route audio into loopy masterpiece and midi map the controls. A possible work around ?

Ouch, that sounds painful. Looks like we need to hurry with that.

  • Bring it on Sebstian , we're ready and willing and just waiting on able.

This would be important for me personally if I was going to use AB3 without a secondary mixer app. Control from an external controller is the primary usage I have for AUM (beyond AU hosting and advanced audio routing).

In fact, as a more specific question:
What MIDI Learn functionality will AB3 have?

  • So beautiful to be alive with this generation of music devs and truly enjoy their awesome enginuity! This will again set the standard and its Instagram but for me!

  • Will AB3 have AB Remote built in? I presuming it is as you mentioned no in app purchases so far.

What about IAA. Any better "collaboration/integration"?

What do you mean? Audiobus 3 is built upon IAA.

Will it be possible to open an IAA-only app in AB3

    Most likely not.

No, it won't be built in but the existing Remote app will work with Audiobus 3.

I'll be able to talk about this in a few days.

    That's cool then :)

Isn`t AUM requires the app to be opened in AB?

  • Forgive me @Sebastian but I'm not quite understanding one thing. Currently apps that support midi in and out work fine, you do have to set up the sending and receiving, I'm still not clear on how Audiobus 3 makes this easier when it will be third app to be opened as opposed to the two sending and receiving. What am I not understanding ?

Since I'm waiting for that feature for about a couple of years, I would say yes, but as it will be in 3.1, and as you keep your promisses, I can gently wait :)

Does AB3 can set a latency lower than 128 ?
Is there are improvements (measurable ?) with stability between link, midi, AB ?
Does it handle better an average app with AB integration ?)

  • Very excited for Audiosbus 3.0 :# !!!!!

  • Could we have a sneaky peek? Would love to see a pic even if it's just a work in progress ;)

  • Will there be some way to transfer or inport user presets and saved sates from current AB to new model?

If Core Midi currently works in the setups you're using then you're one of the lucky few. There are tons of issues with double routing and opaque midi settings, switching between setups and apps automatically connecting to open ports.

Besides, try and explain to a novice how to set up midi routing between two apps. The replace one of these apps with another one that has its midi settings in a different place with different options etc. And try again. Chances are the whole process is different. It's a nightmare.

AB 3 will open AB 2 presets that have been exported.

Chances are you'll get it in 3.0.

Not sure what you mean with that. We might introduce lower latency settings, but I don't know how many apps support 64 samples.

Does it handle better an average app with AB integration ?)

The 'this app wants to open that other app' pop up will be gone. Does that count?

Using Korg Module with Cubasis has indeed been a MIDI nightmare for me...I'm hoping AB3 can help here.

  • MIDI has been known to send many a muso mad :p

Uhhhhm, will there be a way to export all presets directly from AB2 to AB3, or do we have to do them one at a tedious time?

  • @Sebastian I think i get it now. There is a fair amount of menu diving and switching back and forth with coremidi. If Audiobus 3 can simply load the apps and "point and shoot" midi anywhere plus with presets and state saving, then yeah that sounds great! Especially for layering synths for live playing

  • @Sebastian if a MIDI device or app is disconnected (through physical removal or crash), will the device or app automatically reconnect on re-attachment? This is currently the only real shortcoming I can name for AUM, and although auto-reconnection is promised in a future update, without it I still use the individual apps MIDI connection menus. Takes more time to set up, but it's not viable to go reconnecting devices in a MIDI matrix live if/when a controller momentarily loses power or becomes disconnected.

On the other hand, I feel I have grown as a person and musician by trying to figure out what the HELL was going on . That said: Will I be able to record midi in AB3? I assume I'll have to sequence it elsewhere, in Modstep or Cubasis, but that would be a dream.

I just wanted to see if we could getaway with that. But you're right, we're probably going to add automatic import from AB2 to AB3 via shared app space. Happy now? :)

We might add recording features in later updates. But not in 3.0.
