no more jumping through hoops :)

life can be so simple :)
soundprism cheat sheet as alternate keyboard is to good to not do it B)

hm, I still would like to have some kind of (folder) structure in the preset list
I always end up with 150+ presets called "this is interesting 58" quickly ... :#
meaning i never find anything because its such a long list of events to scroll through ...
a little searchbar for presets would be nice too ... show me everything that contains these symbols u get what i mean ...

are there keyboard shortcuts for "things to do"?
and will it bring me sandwiches?

Midi learn is something we might or might not add in 3.0. But it's very high on the to do list.

    Here's to being hopeful!

    Yes please to all that^

[edit: with special preference for any form of MIDI-triggered recall of a saved state]

I'd be happy with any form of MIDI-triggered saved state recall as well but here's to hoping that includes standard MIDI Program Changes. No need to reinvent the spec.

I'm really excited about the prospect of using an iPad as the centrepiece of my studio one day. It currently has a few limitations (file system, RAM, storage etc..) but I'm sure it's only a matter of time before they are addressed.

For me, the biggest hurdle preventing me from moving away from a laptop is workflow. Using Maschine/Push has changed how I think about making music with a computer and I think iOS is still lacking in this department.

Audiobus currently does a great job of routing audio, and soon MIDI, but I'd love to see a deeper integration with app parameters and the physical controls on my keyboard.

I'd love to see AB3 offer something similar to Native Instruments NKS.
    https://www.native-instruments.com/en/products/komplete/keyboards/komplete-kontrol-s-series/nks/

I'd also like to see a rethink of the Connection Panel. Currently I find it a little fiddly to drag in and out and it often obscures important UI elements. Perhaps offer an (optional) alternative to developers to allow them to embed the functionality into their existing interface?

  • @mannix said:

... it looks like most people just don't need AUM after AB 3.0 has been launched. Of course AUM won't become obsolete only it will be much more meant for a niche public.

Can't see that happening. At least, for those of us who love using AUM, and have projects on the go based in the app. Just as we did not abandon AB when AUM arrived. The two will go on, used by many and complimenting each other.

AB's state saving is something that AUM is not likely to get, and AUM's integration with AudioShare, plus it's AU capability isn't going to be in AB3. So, two horses for one course. Onwards!

While I'm taking notes regarding your feature requests here, I feel like I should point this out: the goal of Audiobus 3 is to improve stability, save time wherever possible and make MIDI Routing reliable and understandable, while adding some of the most requested features in ways that help 90% of our users get to their preferred goals faster.

While my desktop has musical firepower my iPad can't quite touch, what really separates the two are stability and easy interoperability. While I would love cool new features as much as the next user, if AB3 achieves its goals it would be enormously helpful in closing the gap... And much appreciated.

  • @syrupcore said:
@Sebastian, don't want to put words in @Munibeast's mouth but I'm guessing "MIDI assigned AB sets" is about assigning Saved States to MIDI Program Changes,

Developers will be able to use Audiobus' state saving feature in combination with their (MIDI-)apps. Yes. It's up to developers to support this but I don't think it's hard to do for most.

not in-app MIDI Learn for stuff like the mixer. Or maybe you're saying saved states will be MIDI learnable?

We're planning to make some features Audiobus controllable by MIDI. We know that you want to switch apps with MIDI and change presets that way. I'm not sure it's going to be in version 3.0 but it's definitely on our list of stuff to add.

    This makes me so happy.

  • Great news!!!
Finally I'll be able to retire this workaround:

The icon graphics are sweet but more way finding help would be very welcome. Sort by date or state name, filter by app or word in name. Hell, favorites alone would go a long way!

For live use, a way of constructing "set lists" would be preferable.

Yes totally this. Some kind of custom tagging system would be great for app searching and preset filtering so you can define your own criteria.

I really, really hope at least the global transport controls (or their equivalent) are MIDI controllable. The rest are less of a priority to me and sound a lot more difficult to implement.

But having global start/pause/stop available to either work with a choice of standard MMC messages or fixed or assignable MIDI messages seems like a key feature. I'd hate to see that one not make it into the initial release.

Every tiny new feature that we add tends to add one week at least of development and testing time. If we'd include even just half of the feature suggestions of this thread we'd launch some time in March next year, I think, which is definitely not the plan.

So we're just planning to launch with something that is just so much better than Audiobus 2. And then we're going to add additional features. We've been working on the MIDI stuff for at least a year and I've promised or hinted at us doing this for probably three years. That should give you an idea of the timeframes we're talking about.

Regarding preset management: I think we're at least going to include a search bar in it. That should be doable quickly. Folders... mhhh, maybe.

148, I just counted but I deleted the doubles a few days ago, so it was about 300
I use state saving till the cows come home ...
I don't use anything anymore that doesn't support state saving ...
Some of it is not really music, it's stuff I have to keep to check back if bugfixes work ...

    Anything will help here.

I separated the bug fixing things by naming them with numbers so they show up first in the list, but the list still is *!%^ing long lol
Search by preset name will do to get me through my content, I think :)

@sebastian. Totally understand your point. I would say just launch AB 3 ASAP (can't wait ;)
and add small extra features with update(s). Maybe the controllable Midi addition could be an extra IAP. Think a lot of people don't need it, it's more a specialized thing for a small group of iOS musician as is AB remote.

  • pardon me, only one question: when?

  • So I guess it won't be possible to close running apps from current presets when launching a new preset? Would be very good, though. And to have folders for presets as well that can sync over iCloud... I'm in favour of launching AB3 asap too, but I hope most of these suggestions will make it into 3.1.

AS anxious as we all are, look at the calendar. This is the deadest of dead August. No one will drop a new product into this abyss. But early September, or Labor Day weekend, even? I mean, what do I know, but aren't things dead at your office? And haven't you always noticed that the marketing types are always on some sweet vacation? Nothing happens until they get back.

I've decided to trick myself and pretend that all the apps that haven't really grabbed me yet are actually NEW. That should keep me busy until September.

Looks like all devs just wait for iOS 10. There's so much updates coming up... Maybe not clever to wait for it as a dev, when everything is launched at the same time, people have to make choices.
