Thanks! But it also points at yet another typical AppStore problem: it's completely unclear what a 1-star rating means.
It could mean: "This app is broken and crashes all the time" but it could also mean "I wish there were more Factory Presets of trumpets and tubular bells" or "There is a bug in Garageband, but I'm pissed off so I'm going to blame it on the plugin".
Without contacting me there's very little I can do to resolve the issue (0_o)

ps The only issue I currently have is I can't seem to work the quick edit parameter ccs 12-16 and if I send cc16 its controlling the operator levels 2-6 at the same time.

To me this is one of the best demos of 'FM-Synthesis' (All sounds from TX802).

That's how it's supposed to work. The quick parameters (like the Volca FM's front panel) control multiple operators simultaneously. Depending on the selected algorithm they control all carriers and modulators. This lets you quickly set up the framework of a sound before diving into the individual operators for finetuning and adjusting.
I really hope there are no 'logic errors' in Phasemaker as those would take ages to figure out considering how complex FM-Synthsis is
ok thanks. But aren't ccs 12 to 15 supposed to move the carriers and modulators knobs in the quick edit screen? I can't get those to move but the others are working fine from what I've tested.
FM Synthesis is technicaly superior - it's more powerful, it's by all means a technological evolution over subtractive enabling for sounds that weren't possible unless by sampling.
But I find it superior as well in the artistic sense, since it can achieve sounds similar to the analogue subtractive synths, but can transform then in a way no knob pushing can.
What harmed FM synthesis was 1. poor interface design choices by the main vendors, 2. the lack of knobs to push and cables to change that used to add a performer's feel to using an analogue synth live, and 3. the ubiquity of FM sounds in 4 and 8-bit videogames, cellphones, computers etc., and also in low quality pop songs given its relatively low cost, with, together with widespread preset usage because of poorly designed interfaces, made FM sounds easily recognizable and "uncool".
My main synth on iOS was the DXi: I can get to where I want easily than in any other synth app, subtractive or otherwise, because of the great, intuitive interface. Phasemaker is a lot deeper, but equally well designed, and I am getting used to it.
Hah... I spent quite some time double- and triple-checking the operator routings for every algorithm. And I haven't found any errors while designing the factory patches (which was a fairly extensive stress test of the algorithms).
I do admit I did not test every single CC# in Phasemaker...
I've yet to find a proper host-app for that.(Ie. an AUv3 host with 127 on-screen sliders & knobs with enough room to view the whole AUv3 UI and it's sub-pages).
Yes, it's an AU thing. Long technical answer: the GUI updates are linked to updates in the AU Parameter collection - whenever something (the user, the host, some external controller) changes the value of an AU Parameter it notifies my GUI to update itself. The quick controls are not connected to one AU Parameter but to (multiple) parameters which can be different every time. They are basically one-way, so they are not notified of changes and never update automatically.
Thanks, that makes sense. they are changing the sound, just not moving the dials. I didn't hear the sound change on the patch i was using but hear it clearly now with those ccs. Congrats, it really is the easiest fm synth to program I've tried, even if you don't know what you are doing.

@brambos: just noticed Phasemaker doesn't have feedback per operator, feature that FM Essentials already have. Any chance of this being implemented in the near future, or is a change too complex/fundamental to worth the hassle? Not really a significant turn off not having it, but your app is so good and so thorough that it's almost a pity not having it.
As far as I know FM Essentials (and Yamaha's ReFace DX) use feedback per operator, but it's a different kind of technique than in the DX synths of old. They use it to turn sinewaves into sawtooths or squarewaves, but it's not used to generate "chaos/dirt/noise" like on the classic FM synths.
So, since I already had a multitude different waveforms available (and keep CPU load just a little bit down) I chose to stick with the feedback mechanism of the DX7/TX81Z.

I wish I liked FM more. The UI here makes it very approachable in a way that tickles the learning node of my brain. Alas...
Not sure if it's Phasemaker or StepPolyArp but I'm sending midi to phasemaker and the audio keeps glitching out and making a horrible sound after a few minutes.
I'm really getting into programming sounds in the excellent Phasemaker. However, is there any chance of adding voice Unison and Unison detune in a future update? Preferably in polyphonic even if it reduces the polyphony to 4 or 8 note. That was one feature of the DX7s and DX7IIFD that was good because it made the sounds fatter and warmer.

No on the filter. Yes on the global envelope, sort of. There are quick controls that apply envelope shaping to the operators, but it's a single knob that moves the general envelope shape, not specific controls. Very quick and easy, then you can go in and tweak individuals if you want.
Next update will let you (glitch-free) automate pitch/ratios/frequencies/levels of individual operators while notes are playing for even moar modulation madness.
And import/export of user patches via Dropbox/iCloud/etc.
Sweet, I suppose 'folders' under the user-bank will be there too
(This would make organising and sharing easier).
Thx for the update. Updated to 10.1 and now it/they are running smoothely in Auria here - 5 pms + 2 other AUs + effects. Very happy. 5 stars from here.
