What's the best way for us to let him know we'd like an AU version of Impaktor with the ability to use it as an effect?
I do like the looks of that ^ @InfoCheck !!
Hopefully we get a developer who can make this a reality.
I don't know much about this.
If I can get the xbox 360 rock band drum controller with pedal for free can I do something with that?
I understand these are just drum pads with piezo mics underneath?
The video is for converting the Rock Band controller to a MIDI controller. If you didn't want to go the MIDI route, you'd just solder the wires from the piezos to jacks so you can plug them into your USB audio interface. In the hypothetical AU Impaktor scenario, you'd adjust the input level in the app to achieve the desired audio signal.
I definitely want to see this updated also. A plugin version of this would kill it too.
Great work guys!
Count me in for update too.
About Rock band/guitar hero drums there are some of them with midi din (but these send crazy CCs instead midi notes making necessary midi flow) and piezos under the pads for scavenging hehe
I had a project in mind with those but (even I have 98% of the pieces of the puzzle) finally I left collecting dust in the basement and just start messing with impactor and contact mics. Maybe if we made something altogether (includding midi flow magic) I give it a second chance...
I have some basic electronic skills (includding few knowledge about arduino and max/pd)
Been reading this thread with interest. Im a drummer and I use impaktor with the iPads mic. I don't have a separate audio interface. I'd be curious to hear folks opinions about whether there big sensitivity gains when using an audio interface and piezo setups.
I think one of the big advantages of a piezo mic is not having to worry about the ambient noise of your surroundings plus since they are so sensitive to vibrations I do think you get some timbres you won't get from the built in iOS device mic or a conventional mic.
@ecamburn Yep practically no room leaks in the microphone with piezos. I'm using the tuning clip (like I mentioned) which works great for me. I just tried it for fun and programming sounds in general (I also use it in max/msp). It's easy, I just clip it on a table. I haven't tried a drumpad yet. Pretty ironic considering I have a 2box drumit 5 and plenty of old simmons pads lying around.
I got a response from the developer:
Hi,
I work on a new synth for iOS. Then I will come back to my older apps. Multiple inputs means rather huge change, so expect Impaktor 2
Best regards,
Jarek
@Jes very cool hope he gets to do Impaktor 2. Look forward to new synth app too.
I am expecting IMPAKTOR 2! Great to hear he wants to make it happen. Curious about that synth as well.
Impaktor: I'm trying to get Impaktor to work with an external audio interface (behringer UCA222) and a Roland drum pad as the "mi."
It works AMAZINGLY well, except for the fact that it seems that when I try to loop, the audio of another track is acting as a trigger for the selected track!
Do you know of any secret that will allow me to use the external audio interface to get the drum pad to work, but not have playback audio re trigger Impaktor?
Maybe ou should mod your uca222 to avoid direct monitoring? I'm not sure if it has the same problem like ufo222 but you can look if it this issue which makes impaktor retrigger.

Note aside for anyone searching for improve uca222 not related directly with issue above.
Here more moddings to uca222.

Edited.
It does act the same on my yamaha mg10xu
But had no time to find out why
I tried monitoring on/off, makes no diff. It seems to be an issue with signal path of actual app. I tried a cheapy mic/phone splitter cable... Same issue. Tried apple earbuds (tapping on mic), same issue.
And since these guys have seemed to abandoned the app.. Oh well.. Amazing synth engine going to waste...
Lol, if you want to reach that conclusion go ahead, but I can assure you this app can work as advertised with no feedback re-triggering. It can take a bit of trial and error.
A few thoughts:
The best solution is a higher quality DAC audio interface that will have a higher fidelity signal.
Otherwise, some people may have tips for how to set Impaktor settings to compensate while using the options you've tried.
@Hmtx
The first link I post show how to "cut" these connection.
@MonkeyDrummer
Did you tried a better audio interface plus mic combo?
I just got all the pieces of my set up in today and have gotten mixed results.
I got an alesis samplepad pro , an irig 2, and a planet waves tuning clip. When I use the tuning clip with the irig 2 and connect it to an iphone with impaktor, it works perfectly and is really cool!
However, when i connect the irig 2 to the sample pad, it doesnt work so well yet- idk why, but when some of the pads don't seem to register unless they are hit very hard and sometimes quick hits won't register with impaktor either (and i set all of the pads to the same velocity and level on the device- it seems random so far). I've tried troubleshooting with different cables and different cable placements (the sample pad has both {R} and {L mono} input ports) but havent been able to get anything different out of it. It doesnt make sense to me because when I play the sample pad connected straight into headphones or an amp (thru a focusrite scarlet 18i20 interface) it sounds great and has none of those issues .
Does anybody know why this is happening? And how to make it work right with the sample pad?
I've tried several input combinations. USB "Interfaces", simple wired options, iRig, "Y" connectors. The only thing that keeps the app's "input" from hearing its own "output" thus triggering itself, is headphones and the iPad's built-in mic. As soon as I try to use an external mic, regardless of how it's connected, or if it's an actual mic or a piezo pad (which is just a mic), I get the self-read.
Considering the bugs this app had a while ago with horrible lag, then apple did "something" during an iOS update that caused the lag to go away, it seems this feedback issue resulted from those changes.
@dan151
Irig2 is instrument input and you need some kind of preamp (like the one on your focusrite) for non dynamic microphones (like piezos) to level up the signal with the correct dc compensation (to avoid noise and retriggering). With iPad I supose you have some gain option but with samplepad seems not from you explanation.

This (plus cable splitter) is more or less what you find inside irig mic.
@MonkeyDrummer check the "direct monitoring" in your interfaces (and the link about this related to uca222 I have posted). Also check options in impaktor itself (threshold or input set could be the problem) and try also with audiobus (mic as input and impaktor at output)
Thanks Dubbylabby. What do you mean by "With iPad I supose you have some gain option but with samplepad seems not from you explanation"?
So the irig2 won't work with the alesis samplepad pro? Or do i need to get some sort of external device to be the pre-amp?
I'm also confused about this- why does the regular piezo mic (planet waves clip) work so well with the irig but not the alesis samplepad pro? it wouldnt need a pre-amp like the sample pad?
I also tried using a DI box, a mic pre-amp, etc. with "Y" cables. Don't work.
@dan151
In settings you have the "input sensivity" which makes a gain stage between your mic and how it enter to the app. As you irig 2 is suited for guitar (low impedance signal) as you plug a microphone (or piezo) you need the hardware equivalent to match impedances before you could plug it into samplepad (which maybe expects a high impedance signal piezo)
Also the app has low pass filter (lpf) which cut the bass frecuencies to avoid noise and hit the gate in the app (more or less working as simple compressor system) etc.
These options aren't available on samplepad? Has it some "settings" for piezo sesnsivity?
Could you post a picture of your settings in the app?
Where people did go? Are you out there? :V
@dan151 @MonkeyDrummer
I found this maybe could be in between diy piezo and tuner clips...

yes update please.Link sounds great but even better make it an option to have midi coming in trigger drums instead of audio triggering drums. that would be super helpful in loud situations, or quiet situation where using mic for triggering just isn't an option.
