I think this was the first time ever Korg has actually announced a date for an iOS release?
The other apps just popped out when they were ready :D

The last one, iOdyssei appeared before the websites were even updated and with no announcement.

I had already said the same thing earlier in this thread. It's strange a date was set.

  • My new found love for Miltipas/wavestation presets and using nothing but them will tide me over. I think I have to admit to myself that my ears absolutely adore pure cheese

    It's called cheese for a reason :D

  • There's no such thing as cheesy

  • They're waiting for AB3. :)

And now probably the first AND the LAST time they'll ever try that ;)

Most of us have been waiting for Gadget to get an audio track feature since the very early days when it didn't even have a landscape mode. At least I've been waiting that long (around late 2013). Bilbao and Abu Dhabi (both released around late summer 2014) were the first two gadgets in Gadget to have the ability to import user audio, but we quickly learned Abu Dhabi and Bilbao both were severly limited in the length of time of the audio playback. Those two gadgets work well for their intended purposes, but they still weren't the audio track solution that should've been in Gadget to begin with.

Fast forward to this year. We'd just about given up hope for Gadget to ever have audio in its infrastructure (especially after the recent releases of Milpitas, Lexington, Gladstone, and Madrid suggested Korg was solely dedicated to new ways to form sound other than audio tracks). Then Korg announced Gadget for Mac and announced Zurich, and most of us shouted "about time!" When Korg announced "February 28th" as the release date, a majority of us started counting the days left until we finally got what ought to have been put into Gadget ages ago. Then, Korg pulled the rug out from under us by delaying the release of the update not by a day, or a week, but a whole month.

So, if you don't get "all the drama" (translation: the basic human need to air our collective frustration with one another in a common setting), good for you. Pat yourself on the back and have a cookie. Let the rest of us suffer in peace if you don't mind.

don't get me wrong. i've been waiting equally long. specially since gadget has become one of my main on the go sketchpads alongside modstep. problem is that due to all the drama we will probably never get dates again. i'd much prefer them being communicative than being completely silent.

Do you mean to say people actually complained to Korg directly about this? I can see your point then. Most times, I'm simply content with airing my grievances in the community here rather than bothering with other companies. My exception to this is Cakewalk, whom I write about twice a year to let them know z3ta+ is STILL not updated in hopes they actually finally give a fuck about their flagship iOS product.

In hindsight, while I'm unsure why it took Korg this long to figure out how to get audio tracks in Gadget, at least they care enough about the product to update it regularly, not charge for simple bugfixes, and keep financial sustainability going through optional IAPs.

  • People have complained directly to Korg about a great number of things on their official support forums and they never respond. So we have no way of knowing if they are listening. Hence we just keep complaining. Matter of fact, I was just on there, and there's a brand new post asking for audio tracks.

    Lucky bastard

  • The great thing about this "delay" is that I have rediscovered the greatness of Logic. It is now actually possible that i blow off gadget osx completely, whereas it would have been an instabuy for me had korg released it at or after the NAMM announcement.

I ordered a Switch from Nintendo UK for my kids, it was supposed to come on launch day, no sign of it. Looks like they are completely overwhelmed, the tracking doesn't work, and after spending two hours on hold trying to get through to find out where it was I gave up. The kids are pretty disappointed.

I went to Nintendo Life to see if anyone else had similar problems and there were hordes of howling, disappointed people there.

Im not that surprised though, it was the same story with the Classic Mini. We've been trying to get one of those since November without any luck.

I don't know why Korg are bothering with Gadget for Mac when there are far better and more versatile DAWs on Mac like Logic Pro, Reason, Bitwig Studio and Ableton Live. Gadget on iOS is a different story.

    They want more money :)
But as excited as i was when i heard it, i'm also thinking now that i will not buy it for more than i payed for Logic which can do much much more.
Now i would prefer that they just updated the Korg Legacy Collection to better GUI's.
I just would like to have the iWavestation and ArpOdyssei for macOS. But the Gadgets are limited here too compared to the full iOS versions.
But if they would offer additionell discounts for people who already own their iOS app(s) i would bite maybe.
So after the hype i also don't know if that is a good idea at all, especially for macOS only.
However, i wish them good luck and success because of their employees.

It's not a daw so much as it's a sequencer with a bunch of excellent synths and samplers. The move to make them VSTs is brilliant. I imagine gadget for IOS and Mac come bundled with their new hardware lineups to get more people hooked on the Korg brand. At least it's an added incentive.

  • They should offer gadget on mac for free and a couple of basic gadgets and then sell gadget/vsts separate or in a bundle....probably sell shed loads more

  • i think this place is probably the most enthusiastic about the mac version across the whole internet. And people here still think it's an odd choice and are on the fence. Most other places all I hear "yeah no I'd get logic or something else for that price". I don't think this is going to sell well on mac folks.

  • Gadget for macOS is one way to get the 'Korg Sound' into any DAW/Project without having to buy 'Korg Hardware'.

That is the way I see it. Gadget does most of what the Electribe 2/2Sampler are capable of and add to the Wavestation and M1, Odyssei, Module and the other basic synths that do have some 'character'(I've not found any VST/AU that sounds like 'Kamata' as an example) to their sound and we have a pretty nice 'package'.

I have a feeling that those who diss Gadget have actually never used it for an extended period of time...

I imagine anyone who buys a korg machine will get some code for gadget mac le or sth and will buy it if they like it. Chances are there will be sales also. I own almost all the korg iOS products but not one did I pay full price. I also have the nanokey studio . Would I get the desktop if it came out for windows... maybe... what can I say? I'm a korg fanboy I guess.

  • IF it existed I wouldnt have too much use for Gadget on PC but I like the idea of importing the midi file into my DAW and queing up the Gadgets as vsts, mixing and matching with other vsts /fx etc. That would be pretty kick ass. I know I can kind of do that now with the exported audio / midi but it is a bit clunkier.

  • I own and love Logic, but I also plan to buy Gadget for Mac if it works as I expect it to. If one's primary music-making app on iOS is Gadget, and they have a Mac, why not have Gadget on Mac? I don't own or know much about Ableton Live, so for a few hundred bucks, I'll have a nice familiar destination on desktop in which to export compositions, and with the same sounds. There must be other people in a same or similar boat.

I don't know if it'll be a big seller for Korg, and maybe that's not so important. They make tons of stuff. Everything doesn't have to conquer the world. Regardless, I believe if I buy it, I'll get my money's worth.

  • I sincerely hope we see a gadget for windows eventually. Would love to have all the gadgets in ableton live directly....

That sucks....I find this sort of thing happening more and more with retailers...they take online orders and payment for things that they do not have in stock in the hope that they can fulfill your order when they have no guarantees that they can.
I struck lucky with getting mine, I phoned the local game shop just at the same moment that they had taken delivery of a console for someone who pre-ordered but cancelled.> @oat_phipps said:

Yeah, you kind of expect better from Nintendo though. I really wish we had ordered it from Amazon, but the kids wanted the coloured controllers, and Amazon ran out of stock on those by the time we ordered. I hope the Switch arrives this week, considering it was supposedly despatched last thursday....

Coming back to this thread after a while so...when did this became a Nintendo switch/ gadget 3.0 thread?, you're telling me there's some compatibility between the two of them?

The only way I would consider getting one is if you Could hack a switch to act as a midi controller or something...
