  • A classic SH-101 style polyphonic sequencer with simple piano-roll editor in Odessa would be pure gold.
It would be perfect for driving Phasemaker as an example.

The sequencer could then drive the other Odessa Plug-Ins.
A slow running sequencer feeding a chords to an arpeggiator is a nice combination.
And if the sequencer accepts key-board input for transposing then well, that would eat a lot of time.

Hope Odessa pops up soon :)
(Maybe it will be a 'tactical release' on black friday with an introductory price or something?!).

  • Okay let’s get on with it. Release the Beast!!!

  • It’s ‘waiting for review’ :)

@Wrlds2ndBstGeoshredr try talking to @midiSequencer perhaps?

someone rang my bell? There's many types of sequencer out there - suiting all sorts of styles and musical composition techniques and all should help the performer (musical or otherwise) to have fun.
btw, looking forward to @brambos new sequencers - especially the lfos!

  • You could just play whatever, as sloppy and out-of -tune as you please. If you play it like you mean it, someone will come along and explain what you just did in confusing, alien terminology. The analysis will have no effect on you, but will probably help someone later on who wants to play in the same style.

It's going to be 'keep refreshing the app store' time for us lot now...

  • @MonzoPro I'm having to leave the house, otherwise I'd be doing the same as you. Hope it is available later tonight. :)

I don't think you'll miss anything - usually takes a couple of days. I'll be checking the Store first thing tomorrow morning though...

I predict several days. After all, this one makes no sound which has thrown Apple for a loop (eg, Quantum).

Yes.. I can totally see that happening.. no sound and no standalone app.. that’s sure to confuse those reviewers :D

Let's just hope they have at least a few 'iOS Music Nerds' in the review department :)

Looking forward to this! One thing I missed was does it work only in AUM? Would be great to be able to use a proper sequencer in BM3, though I’m not sure how that would work with patterns/timeline.

Side note: always surprised me that for a “beat making” app, BM3 is surprisingly bad for actually editing beats (in the midi editor). Wish it had a proper step sequencer (or that Odessa could take this role)

Its implementation is not specific to AUM but AUM is the first AU host to implement this AU midi feature. So until other hosts implement this it will only work with AUM.

  • Ah, thanks @fattigman, hopefully Intua is on it :)

Yepp, but there's nothing stopping us from making the other apps use AUM as 'midi input' and use AUM as a pure 'midi generator' :)

Great... Can we have an idea of the cost... Need to load my card ;) ... I already know it's $18.99 for AUM (Must have for this app... I think)...

True, and someone should do an AU audio editor then AUM is pretty close to a DAW.

Odessa would also need a 'hybrid' SH-101/Piano-Roll style sequencer that could be used to drive the other Oddessa modules :)

I think it's enough if AudioShare gets a deeper audio-editor since every track in AUM can be recorded directly to AudioShare. The recorder button could have a 'edit in audio share' once the recording is stopped, pressing that icon would just open the track in AudioShare for editing or 'load recording as new track'(using the AUM file-player).

  • Sorry dude I asked and never heard a peep. I guess it’s standard pre release strategies :D

Agree 100%. To me the unnerving sound is the MPE keyboard imitating a Stratocaster. It gets the notes correct, and the feel is sometimes even there, but it’s like the steak in Cronenberg’s “Fly.” It’s not delicious. My ear rejects it.

Yep. It's the music equivalent of the Uncanny Valley.

I'm not a fan of electronic instruments imitating acoustic instruments either. I prefer to use them for their own unique and beautiful sounds. But there is no reason we cannot ask electronic instruments and their players to offer the same degree of complexity and randomness with regards to tuning and timing that acoustic instruments offer.

It seems so bizarre to me that the majority of our ios synths can create all kinds of complex tonalities, but cannot be tuned to anything but A=440 ET. Or have their bpm set to fractional amounts. It's like putting a race horse in a strait jacket.

I think @Calverhall missed the point being made, but you just made it well. The issue is simply that imitating acoustic instruments is more work with less reward than just learning how to play the acoustic instrument in the first place.

  • A sweet bonus is that these Odessa sequencers work very well giving the Audio Damage Axon2 some really nice probability that’s kind of hard to get using just Axon2 alone. :)

Good to hear, finding that one a bit of a damp squib.

I have no idea what “damp squib” means...but I’m pretty sure I agree.

You can also get some really nice probabilty using Audio Damage replicant 2 with Axon2.

Ooh, I hadn’t tried that. Thanks for the tip. :)

  • Since when did someone suggesting learning to play a guitar to achieve the musicality you want become snobby? Especially after saying ‘I can dream up a killer complex sequencer, if brambos won’t do it, SOMEONE ELSE will’

Just my two cents, but that’s an odd exchange with a skewed view of reality.
