2.) Play/Record it in SpaceCraft. Save it directly to your Audio folder in Cubasis. (Don't close SpaceCraft)

Ah, so you're not actually using Spacecraft as an AU in this case.

I don't like how it defaults to 'in GUI' mode rather than fullscreen when using as AU, this I think is the source of many of the issues people as experiencing, in particular the file load/save not working when embedded in a GUI. If I could find a way to always force Spacecraft to fullscreen when used as an AU that could be a good workaround.

I believe the SynthMasterOne dev just cracked that nut in the beta. May want to hit him up.

I like the app, but Is it possible to save a preset?

Not really. It doesn’t work, and could cause a freeze.

So if you want to import some samples you have on your device or wherever, the only way right now is to play them in the input and resample them live in the app. You could use AUM File Player in AUM, or AudioShare in Audiobus. Not sure about apeMatrix, I am laggin’ on that app.

To get the original built-in samples back, close and reopen the app.

Thank you, I’m gonna try that.
I eventually fell asleep in front of that app last night... eh morning 😂

Hi UrbanNinja, thanks very much for the feedback!

Currently it's meant to be used as a standalone app fullscreen (where everything should work) and use with Audiobus is not yet supported officially, although it kind-of works. In particular, if Spacecraft is running within a host GUI the 'load audio file' and 'rec (file save) buttons will lock the interface, that's why I didn't advertise it as being compatible with Audiobus.

If you go Import Sound -> Load Audio File when using as a standalone app, you should be able to load from iCloud, Dropbox etc.

To get back to the original sound files, restart the app.

Presets are not currently supported Kuhl.

Okay. I cling to that “not currently” negation 😆

This thread has been an eye opener for me. I've always been a VST oriented person and am new to the whole iOS ecosystem (as you can probably tell). To be completely honest, I'm not very well versed at all in the world of AU and the only reason Spacecraft works (kinda) in these ecosystems is thanks to the out-of-the-box compatibility I get from using the amazing JUCE framework that I've used to develop this. I develop this primarily as a VST and then migrate the changes to iOS world.

However, my experience of this forum over the last couple of (rather intense) days has really inspired me to get more into the AU side of things and to see how far I can take this thing to integrate into these amazing systems. What a great time to be making music!!

I will be studying your workflow setups on here (@AudioGus!) and will recreate them. I'm spending a fortune on apps here! ;)

Glad to have someone with the sensibility and sensitivity of a performer creating awesome kit for us. It’s an inspired app and allows us to get lost in the wonder it provides us as we explore the various sound waves we subject it to.

    Keep up the great work.

Sample import works fine in the IAA version. The AU freezes up, but you can record into the AU effect easily. I think you need to have iCloud enabled for the Files App to work correctly in Spacecraft for importing samples.

    Just have to mention...
I have been blown away by your SoundCloud account. The Classical pieces are amazing.

Oh, thank you :) that was nice of you.

  • so in the stand alone version of this app I assume import/export via audio share is there?

  • @kobamoto yes provided
    1. you have iCloud drive enabled
    2. you have enabled AudioShare as one of the locations in the iOS 'Files' app (in the iOS 'Files' app tap 'edit' above location)

Spacecraft is actually the descendant of a granular synth I created ages ago in Reaktor. Here's me jamming on it using a home made Arduino-based midi controller with two pressure sensitive touchstrips (built on a laminate floorboard). Spacecraft inherited the blue and pink colours from this midi controller.

The in-progress VST version of Spacecraft actually works with this midi controller. It will be fun to get this connected to the iOS version once I've got the midi finalised :)

I found that the touchstrips on the Maschine Jam are quite a good controller for Spacecraft, although you don't get the pressure control aspect, so you need some sort of amplitude envelope on the midi input.

Impressive performance. Do you have any of your creations in the Reaktor user library? I’d love to check them out if so.

Could the app not be made to save automatically, including current state of controls, directly into Files App?

At the moment, the only way to make sure those serendipitously interesting moments are preserved, is as @CracklePot suggests, record at all times. But that, of course, does not preserve the all important settings.

If there was a way to record live use of settings, for appliccation to the same or dierent samples, that would be a fabulous addition. Very pleased to buy such a thing as an IAP. :)

Please explain how you record in while in AU mode... I did not find that out until now.

  • @faktoid you can record a sample into the app by using the microphone which records the audio signal into the AU (sorry, I need to rename it to make it more obvious when using as AU).

You can't record your performance to a file ('rec' button) when in a non fullscreen AU mode, you'd have to use the host to record the output of Spacecraft.

  • @Dawdles I do intend to include presets. It will be necessary for the VST version and I'll make the presets common across iOS, android and VST.

How the presets are implemented I've yet to decide. I need to go over the suggestions in this thread at some point to get ideas...

you made a great app.. As I mentioned before, on par with the microgranny or the GR-1 .. The moment you enable some midi modulation your spacecraft will take off :)

-you might not have the storage to constantly record 5+ minute jams internally

Also, I believe the current limit is 2 minutes.

  • This whole subject of “in the moment performances” reminds me of something i wrote years ago during a most introspective time in my life.

“As with life all things we are graced with are ephemeral and to demand permanency is a delusion of the mind. Once we realize that we can never step into the same river twice true freedom is realized and the moments of life will be cherished for the opportunities they present to us. Life will flow. Life with be weighted and defined by the effort and attention we place in each measured step we take. This is the calling of the spirit unfolding within. To demand permanence is to allow life to slip between ones fingers. Cherish every breath and connection and do not seek the illusion of permanence for it is the devils greatest lie.”

  • Nice little app. Also great that it is planned for Android, windows and mac as well.

  • @Dawdles said:
Imho the optimal saving system would be something like Fieldscaper. A Sound library for samples and a Scenes library for settings. So you can save/load different scenes that might use the same sample/s, without having to duplicate the sample/s and waste storage.

    excellent suggestion re fieldscaper

  • Well I suppose the au issue is already talked about, just want to say that the lfo control in apematrix is wonderful, but it seems to only work in au mode, had been so good if I could use my own samples, hoping for a fix :)

Nah´.....the world should be cross platform everywhere. :)

  • I can not control myself. This app is like Soma to me. Thanks for the workflow suggestion @AudioGus works like a charm o:) <3

You can use your own samples if you have AUM. Try this:

There IS a way to create a different sample in the AU version of SpaceCraft. If you have an audio file that’s less than 120 Seconds long, you can re-record it into SpaceCraft at the start of a session. Here’s an example of how to do it:

    1. Start AUM and load a File Player into an input slot.
    2. Put apeMatrix AU effect in the effect slot.
    3. Set up the File Player with the audio file you want to use as a sample.
    4. Switch to apeMatrix and add SpaceCraft as an AU effect.
    5. Point the external audio input to SpaceCraft.
    6. Start recording in SpaceCraft and start the File Player.
    7. When the File player finishes, stop recording in SpaceCraft.
    8. Repeat steps 6 and 7 for the other SpaceCraft sequencer.
    9. Set up LFOs for Seq0-posX and Seq1-posX in SpaceCraft.
    10. SpaceCraft will make music for you. ;)

Note that the samples will be gone from SpaceCraft when you close it.

I just loaded a Donovan track as a sample in one sequencer, and an Arlo Guthrie in the other using this method. It was a fun experiment. Even with no updates to the app, the results were pretty easy. Also I posted some notes about what I discovered for LFOs controlling “playing” the app earlier in this thread. Hope this helps.

What’s the Reaktor synth called? I’d like to check that out.

Had masses of fun with Spacecraft last night when I got back from the pub. Absolutely classic app.
