Well I suppose the au issue is already talked about, just want to say that the lfo control in apematrix is wonderful, but it seems to only work in au mode, had been so good if I could use my own samples, hoping for a fix :)

You can use your own samples if you have AUM. Try this:

There IS a way to create a different sample in the AU version of SpaceCraft. If you have an audio file that’s less than 120 Seconds long, you can re-record it into SpaceCraft at the start of a session. Here’s an example of how to do it:

    1. Start AUM and load a File Player into an input slot.
    2. Put apeMatrix AU effect in the effect slot.
    3. Set up the File Player with the audio file you want to use as a sample.
    4. Switch to apeMatrix and add SpaceCraft as an AU effect.
    5. Point the external audio input to SpaceCraft.
    6. Start recording in SpaceCraft and start the File Player.
    7. When the File player finishes, stop recording in SpaceCraft.
    8. Repeat steps 6 and 7 for the other SpaceCraft sequencer.
    9. Set up LFOs for Seq0-posX and Seq1-posX in SpaceCraft.
    10. SpaceCraft will make music for you. ;)

Note that the samples will be gone from SpaceCraft when you close it.

I just loaded a Donovan track as a sample in one sequencer, and an Arlo Guthrie in the other using this method. It was a fun experiment. Even with no updates to the app, the results were pretty easy. Also I posted some notes about what I discovered for LFOs controlling “playing” the app earlier in this thread. Hope this helps.

Nice workaround, have to try that, thanks

  • Ok. I should just go to sleep now.

We are breathing life into grains of sounds with this instrument. It’s hypnotic.

  • Yeah the AU is pretty useful in apeMatrix once you figure out the workarounds, you can save the LFO assigments.
You can record into it by pointing a source of audio at it. The AU gui unfreezes after you've recorded the audio and you can takeover the LFO controls with your fingers and they snap back to LFO control too. :)

Makes a great beat mangler etc.

  • Amazing app. Simple and fun. Wish the 1 minute rec-limit wasn't there. Want to record much longer. And would be cool being able to parameter locking stuff.

  • Just tried this with Tardigrain under AUM. Dependent on what samples are used, of course, and what combos are stumbled upon. But so far the result sounds like communicating with another dimension.

    ....maybe we are. :p

Your outcome is absolute brilliant man! Love the ambience you create with it. What kind of samples put you in, when doing so? Keep it up! Good night :)

The 120 second limit will be removed within days, I'm just trying to figure out the safest way to increase it (don't want to cause a crash due to running out of memory!).

I might provide an option to set the limit by the user.

What I don't want to do is allow dynamically allocating memory during recording as this could end up crashing before it saves or even worse crashing during a live performance. So I need to the memory to be allocated before the recording starts.

  • Amazing app...

  • I think for the AU you don't necessarily need presets just the ability to save the current samples in the session for the host to recall. Although I know it's now possible in iOS 11 to set up a "use file in place" scenario rather than having to copy it across to the AU so this could work for imported samples from different locations.

Although not being a developer I've no idea of how it's implemented. ;)

    Splendid.

You have a hit on your hands, for sure. With some of the additions suggested, you could have a classic! Keep up the great work. :)

I'm not sure what exactly this is based on but I just saw this on the app store! Maybe it's common when a new app comes out.

@Dawdles I do intend to include presets. It will be necessary for the VST version and I'll make the presets common across iOS, android and VST.

How the presets are implemented I've yet to decide. I need to go over the suggestions in this thread at some point to get ideas...

So i’m very interested in your VST version also. Being a sample based instrument the main advantages of the windows/Mac OS world is working with higher internal sample rates mainly due to more RAM. Will you be taking advantage of this and allowing internal sample rates higher than 44khz. Even bumping it up to 96khz makes a massive difference in sound quality when grainulising. It would give a big edge to your VST version.

Ichiban, number one! Congrats! I'm not sure how big the market is at the moment.

  • It's top paid in music, so maybe not such a big market for daily downloads. Feels great to see that though!

  • will this be universal app soon?

    Available on ipad and iphone

  • It's already universal :)

  • It's available for ipad and iphone now, but the best experience is on the ipad as you can see and play both grain engines (blue and pink) simultaneously.

Thanks for giving it a listen. I recorded a handful of chords from Phosphor by Audio Damage into SpaceCraft as an IAAfx in AUM and recorded it all back into AUM and then trimmed and tuned it a bit.
I used a Bus Send on the Phosphor/SpaceCraft Channel in order to hear my chord playback and then live recorded the track back into the same Bus as a live performance.

I wager that is pretty awesome. Above Cubasis2 which is 50% off right now? yah, cool cool
