Not terribly exciting for me but am happy to see Props attach the Reason brand to iOS. One can hope for further development.

    This exactly.

Hmm. I think it’s an own goal.

It’s not Reason, it’s a stripped down version of Europa which - regardless of what they plan for the future - doesn’t reflect what’s available on the desktop.

If I was in charge of their branding and marketing I would have held off the release date until more Gadgets, sorry, instruments, were available.

There's always a backstory I guess. That difference between how you'd draw up the perfect release and how it often seems to happen....

Rushed releases seems to be a common occurrence in iOS land. Whether it’s down to lack of planning or investment in the platform, it’s not a great endorsement for the brand concerned.

PH could lose a whole swathe of potential desktop customers who download this and think to themselves ‘is that it?’, and go no further. Of course many could be hooked in after grabbing the Lite version, but most people aren’t like us lot on here.

If there are other elements/instruments in the pipeline then these should have been available on the big release date. If not, it really shouldn’t be called Reason, because it ain’t.

Don’t mean to sound grumpy about this, but as an investor in the full desktop version I’ve got a vested interest in their products, so just wish this had been better thought out.

It is beginning to look suspiciously like a marketing ploy to drive people towards their desktop product with the free Reason Lite giveaway. If it is such a cynical strategy, it could well backfire on them. The ios platform deserves better. Fingers crossed it's just an ill conceived & botched launch. Maybe it will evolve into something really great...............keeping an open mind for now............

Yes. Like at least half of my other fifty synth apps.

A very fair point. But how many of your other fifty synth apps sound good AND look exactly like Groovebox?

    It requires a login.

    Deleted.

At least the login gives you Reason 10 lite ;)

Isn’t the free copy of Reason 10 lite only for if you register a new account within the Reason Compact app?

I logged into Reason Compact using my Propellerhead account that use for Reason 10 but I didn’t get a free copy of Reason 10 Lite.

I DID get a copy of Reason Lite when loggin ointo an existing account, that had Reason 2.5 Adapted on it  man that was a while ago.
Once logged in through Compact, go to the website and log in, then Reason 10 lite should be in your products list.

Still no Reason 10 lite in my products list. Maybe it’s because I already have the full version of Reason 10. However, I have earned myself 15 reward points for downloading Reason Compact.

  • OTOH, I'm a long-time Reason user, including v10, so I signed into my Prop account and it was all transparent... no issues whatever.

Funny that they make it so difficult for the non-Reason users to get started, isn't it?

I must say at this point, I'm nonplussed with this offering. Maybe it's just a toe-in-the-water, but I would have expected much more from PH. The iPad certainly has the power to be able to run the full install of some of the earlier versions of Reason.

I guess Reason on the iPad is going to be a waiting game... but for me, I'm waiting on NanoStudio 2. I'm convinced that's what Doug has mentioned as an upcoming game-changer.

I feel for the developers. It’s like being a parent who holds a big birthday party for their child. Lots of friends and parents are in attendance and everything so far has gone good untill the ice cream is handed out ...and then all hell breaks loose :D

Or in this case, you get an empty bowl with a note in it saying ice cream will be available in the future :D

We have had plenty of app launches waiting for IAP’s to populate. It’s annoying but all will come good :)

    Mine read SOS🍨

  • OK, so here's what happened for me....
    Downloaded Reason Compact to iPad.
Signed up and gave email and password when I first launched the app.
    No email sent.
    Checked Spam folder. Not there.
    Deleted Reason Compact from iPad.
Downloaded it again from link on Propellerhead page.
Launched app again, prompted me to sign up. I entered the same email address and password and it said there was already an account.
Switched to computer and went to Propellerhead website on computer.
    Attempt to log in.
IMPORTANT PART: Little message at top of the screen says that an email was sent to my email address and I need to verify my account using it.
REALLY IMPORTANT PART: There is an option to "Send Email Again."
    Clicked that.
THIS TIME, I got an email, verified my email address, then I was able to log into my account, and (deep breath) there, FINALLY, was my link to download Reason Lite.

    :p HTH. YMMV.

Well I’m going to have to spend lots of money on this app to mask the hurt , insult, annoyance etc etc that I’ve endured over the last 24 hours :)

    +1

I agree! To add insult to injury Propellerheads just released Dr.Octo Rex on IOS just a few weeks ago, not for Reason Compact, but for Korg's Gadget! Seems as if their marketing people are operating in some sort of vacuum.

My experience also but now although I can log in to Reason Compact (and have Reason Lite on my PC) the IAPs are still not available!

  • I just got a update for Reason Compact that states you can now unlock the IAPs. You still cannot! I reported this to PH.

LOL I know! This is the botchiest iOS app release I’ve seen

  • what is up with that?weird

  • We should get all the 4 sound packs given to us for free as well given all of these persistent cockups to smooth our irritated & ruffled feathers at this point...I mean c’mon!!! This glitchy launch is from a company that ought to know and do much better than this when launching something new. Convinced now that this is a rush job all around. It’s both embarrassing and laughable and neither is desirable when showcasing a new product in this case such an exceptional sounding synth. And I still would buy all the IAP in order to support it.

  • I don’t want to be the mind under this Disaster strategy “beginning”

  • Oh dear....what a fiasco. I feel slightly embarrassed about my initial enthusiasm. All good will towards this ill considered release has drained away. It's going to be very difficult for Propellerheads to rescue this one............
It doesn't bode well, if this is the kind of thing Verdane Capital IX (the private equity firm who invested heavily in the company last year) are pushing forward. Surely, this can't be from the same the same people who brought us ReBirth on PC all those years ago.........................not even midi in...........sigh............... :'(

Shit happens. This is a free app. You’re not entitled to anything. If you don’t have the patience to let them sort things out, then that’s on you. But they owe you nothing. Get over yourself.

    It's not a "free" app.

  • I just downloaded, it does sound good. Reason lite for free (monetarily) is good, I haven't used reason in a long time but loved it when I did (v4 was the last I used). I bet another $100 upgrade to full reason will come at some point, and that would be worth it. If I never find use for the app, so be it.

  • I’m gonna give them the benefit a doubt here because I just had a blast recording different stuff and tweaking the harmony and arps. Lots of fun. And the synth sounds amazing, and that’s purely an impression formed by only tweaking the demo panels one at a time with no changes saved. I look forward to being able to have full access.

But basically this is Figure with tweakable chords/harmony. If all I get is a few more tracks and nothing else, I can just Blocs Wave the fuck out of it to make full songs

This is a free app. Stop pretending this is some major malfunction that’s gonna cost them their reputation. They’ve made worse mistakes and they’re still here. Your overdramatic opinion won’t change anyone’s perception of them. I see this type of shit posted all the time and it’s pathetic. If anything, you should feel embarrassed by your own words.

Latest Reason is great - it’s my main DAW. I record audio in, play it’s synths, host VST’s, and it runs smoothly - even on my 8 year old PC with onboard sound. Runs better than any other DAW’s I tried.

I’m perturbed by this release though. Badly planned, and I think it’ll scare as many off as it attracts.

But yeah, if they do another good deal I’d definitely recommend the full-fat desktop version, it’s a completely different beast to the old versions with audio tracks and VST support.

Had to create a new account with a different email to log in (no password reset email received). Still no Europa or IAPs available in the app and no Reason Lite download available on the website when I log in with my new account on my PC! I am a very patient person but this app is pushing it to the limit!

Just contact the Props team, they are usually very swift in reacting upon issues.
And on the other hand, it's all free, I don't get how people can get angry for stuff they don't even pay for.

Sorry about my direct response to this.

I am frustrated at the process to get into the app and IAPs and access to the free software download not the app itself which I appreciate is free and rather limited. I am sure it will be built up with features as time goes on but why make it so difficult to actually access stuff in the first place?

Actually its Apple that doesnt deliver here. They don't activated the in app purchases for this app.
