  • @Norbert - thanks! Nice track!

@Mayo - we have been thinking about this since the start, and we really would like to have a community sharing presets (and maybe even being able to sell them...) and it's still very much in our future plans, but we can't say when.

  • Just a quick post to say I am head over heels in love.

The term game changer feels over used, the last time I felt it was deserved was Rozeta but this is perhaps more so.

Im using it a lot and there are a few things Id love to see in updates which I doubt there is much hunger for. For example, I’d really appreciate an option in settings to be able to switch the group controls and the sliders/scales on the right side, being left handed with a disabled right hand, it would make such a big difference.

Other things like MIDI control of the scale select would be wonderful too, especially if i can select specific MIDI channels for each button, this would allow me to seamless change things in other instruments on a song basis.

Im still waiting eagerly for the tutorial videos, particularly regarding MIDI, but there is plenty to still explore and practice with in the meantime.

  • I would like a real arpegiator personally, like tweaking the actual sequencer to include notes instead of rhythm only. It would increase the possibilities even further.

  • @Calverhall - thanks a lot for your kind words!

We are thinking about many different accessibility options, I will add your suggestion to our list. I can't guarantee when we will get to it, but it's not forgotten!

The scale slots are midi controllable, but we forgot it in the manual! It's listed in the MIDI controls, and you can use MIDI cc or velocity on a specific MIDI note.

  • @Norbert - it's very high on our list...

Ah of course, the scale slot is one cc. I meant each of the 8 slots having their own cc control.

EDIT: perhaps this is an opportunity to learn MIDIfire. Like map something that sends different seperate cc values from a controller to the one cc specified for the scale slot in Gestrument at specific values.

E.g. press a button for channel 6 cc 17, translated by MIDIfire to channel 1 cc 10 value 0 in Gestrument Pro.
Then press a button for channel 6 cc 19, translated by MIDIfire to channel 1 cc 10 value 17 in Gestrument Pro.

    Does this make sense?

My logic is that the Scale Slot in Gestrument Pro is one cc with each of the slots represented by the value zones e.g. scale 1 represented by values 0-15, scale 2 by 16-31 etc.

This is kind of aimed at MIDIfire experts as each time I open it, it overwhelms me with how to get started. But i just opened it and in the MIDI sources it shows Gestrument Pro but its not listed in MIDI destinations, if this is the case then presumably non of my thinking would work anyway!

When using it to control external synths via midi, is there a big performance difference between turning turning off the Gestrument master volume slider (in settings) and turning off the sound engine for each instrument/voice (through the instrument pages, which IMO gets a bit tedious)?

If so, it would be nice to have a midi only toggle either in the master settings, or towards the top of the menu for each voice.

    At any rate, amazing work!

I knew it! Christmas won't come soon enough :)

  • @ohwell - yes there is a difference since you play all internal synths but just mute them when you use the master. Depending on your device it is more or less noticeable. Midi only in the master setting might be a good idea - I will add it to our ever-growing list of things to do;-)

The ever growing list of things to do means you have a winner of a musical instrument here! Thank you for your efforts.

  • @lukesleepwalker - thanks for your support!

  • ^ what Luke says!

  • JesperNordin really deep and great app! Thank you!
For me gestrument pro is a new page in music composing.
Please give straight instructions for importing custom samples! Im read a manual
but nothing about this problem here.
Maybe problem in my sfz files...

  • @waterdrop - thank you!
Sound fonts should be easy to import, but I will let my colleague @gestrumentjonas answer this one, since he is in charge of the sounds. Maybe you can describe your problems more in detail?

It should be relatively straight forward - just import the sounds through iTunes filesharing, the Files app in iOS or even "Open in". I have mostly used sf2 files, and I'm not sure if there is a difference between sf2 and sfz files that make a difference, I will let Jonas answer that.

  • We are planning for them, but it takes time to do it properly, and we are all swamped with so many different things to do... But for now - please ask any questions you want here and we will try to reply!
    @Mayo @kobamoto @JohnnyGoodyear @Calverhall

  • @Calverhall - now I saw your edit. I don't know MIDIfire, so I can't really help you, but yes it sounds like the best way to go to convert it like that. Midi ports in iOS is a bit of a mess, but usually you can always use the "Network".

Yeah It's probably best to use Streambyter to set up a Gestrument script, or several different scripts which you can save in a host like AUM/apeMatrix which can split the midi commands like that. Midifire would work but you'd have to load that up separately and since you usually need a host with Gestrument anyway...

I totally understand, priorities and also what the team prefers, as ever. I can tell you that asking questions if you're uninformed can be quite hard, which is why we sit at the back of the room :) And don't forget that for every one of us who peeks above the parapet to ask, there are armies of silent lurkers in the shadows, mute but hopeful etc :)

  • Is there a manual available for this? Link on their website isn't working.

  • Playing Gestrument Pro live tonight for the first time.

  • @recccp - thanks for pointing that out! I don't know what has happened, but we will look into it asap!

  • @Calverhall - good luck! Please keep us updated on new material featuring Gestrument Pro!
@JohnnyGoodyear - I know you are correct, and we are working on them!

  • @recccp - the FAQ link at the bottom of the page didn't work, but the link from the Gestrument Pro page works, and there you can find the manual - https://gestrument.com/products/gestrument-pro/support/

  • @JesperNordin
    That was quick :)
    Thanks!

  • It went well last night, such a great app, its hard to go wrong, but my partner thought I was sloppy heh (I’m one of those players who tilts the instruments towards the audience so they can see what I am doing.)

@JesperNordin I was meaning to say I have really loved listening to Pendants, I have listened a few times now. Im curious if you have any music on Apple Music that uses Gestrument, either recorded directly or used to write the score.

  • @Calverhall - great! Let us know when you post things online so we can share it!

Thanks for your kind words! Everything I've composed after 2007 is done with Gestrument (even if it wasn't called that in the beginning when it was just a Max patch and a Wacom tablet) to a larger or lesser degree. Surfaces scintillantes from the Pendants album is the first piece I did with the technology, and it is 90% Gestrument.

On Apple Music is also the piece Frames in Transit where I play some Gestrument live (but not a lot). My more recent pieces that use it more are not recorded yet - but here you can see and hear some snippets from my latest piece for Esa-Pekka Salonen, Martin Fröst and the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra - https://www.facebook.com/berwaldhallen/videos/to-sculpture-in-music-in-concert-with-martin-fröst-esa-pekka-salonen-and-jesper-/2094336477487316/

When i import .sfz in the Files, gestrument pro folder , nothing in the app.
and i can't find gestrument pro in variants "open in" .
Maybe something wrong with sfz, I'm gonna try convert to sf2.
