Just bought this on the basis of your comment. Man, I am glad I did. Oh, yeah, top fun.
How long?
Anyone knows?
24 hours, according to App Store description.
I wish I’d known it was this good, though the AU update makes a lot of difference. It was Doug’s recent vid that tempted me. Really good for spicing up a dull beat or sequence.
Yeah, it's great. Tbh, I didn't like the look of it when I saw Doug's video, but I saw your comment and thought, "feck it, it's Friday!" I've got it applied to a Future Drummer loop in AUM and going through the presets and faffing about with it - jaw-droppingly good, init
All those apps Im buying. To parafrase a slogan written on a game I owned as a kid, Othello. It said "A minute to learn a lifetime to master". Now with music appoholism it is like "a minute to buy a lifetime to learn".
So thought that was me done with duet display , Aphelian and Replicant 2 , after getting pure acid the other day , was I pushing my luck with the wife when I spot Traktor Pro 3 upgrade is down to £22 😳 . Bloody right I was but he shoots n he scores 🥳 gigging tomorrow night too so gonna be fun 🎶
6.99 looks like full price for the IAPs, there was a sale a little while back and I picked them up for around 3.99 each.
They’re all great quality, depending on what you’re into but the acoustic packs are probably the most useful for me.
Which is better, Groove Rider GR-16 for $9.99 or Beathawk for $4.99? I think they are both beatboxes, and I would only need one of them. Or, Turnado is $11.99... I'm limiting myself to one, and price is secondary to usefulness. Does anyone have all three of these and cannot do without one of them? I've read good things about each of them.
@rtkeeling Some differentiators: I don't think of Turnado as a beatbox; BeatHawk is AUv3 and GR16 is not.
GR-16 is simply brilliant if you like the genre, all in one like a real groove box. Let’s say that its only defect, is that it is somewhat limited to electronic music. Beathawk is another cup of tea, but beware that it can become very dangerous due to its many iaps that can lead you to spend a lot of money. Some of these are really beautiful with some of the best sounds on iOS, IMHO. Especially on the side of the real instruments. It's more versatile than the GR-16 but it could be less fun and, as I said, much more expensive. It’s AUv3.
Turnado has nothing to do with the other two, it's a multi-effect and one of the most fun and deep. AUv3 too.
Not so easy to master, the learning curve is quite steep, but the results are worth the time you spend on it. Of the three, I couldn't stay without it, but if you need a beat box it's not the right choice. Hope it helps, cheers.
So got Future Drummer, Mangle Verb, Fly Tape and Ultimate Circle of Fifths and IAP. Future Drummer is great accompanying pure acid.
Really hope the super steep discount on NS2 isn't a bad sign about how it's selling. Really love that app and want it to succeed so development continues!
On GR-16 vs BeatHawk: I view them as very different things. GR-16 is a powerful and flexible groovebox built around an excellent wavetable synth. BeatHawk's main value is as a rompler for its excellent IAPs.
Thank you, @mojozart and @Faland ! I think I'll go for Turnado. I knew it wasn't a beat box, but it was on my list. It's AUv3, and I can use it in my other DAW's. I'll catch GR-16 (I like the genre) and Beathawk (I like good sounds) next go-round. Thanks again!
well, i was trying to be all InvertoWorld and perverse about it and use it on strange ambient stuff .. i finally caved and resorted to rhythms and drum stuff “ like you’s s’posed to do” and then it all came into fractured focus
this and the Flux au are actually different beasts, albeit with the same principal .. even just the different ordering of the fx chain ( as you can’t change that in either ) makes a huge difference .. and the Flux thing allows totally seperate settings for each node in a lane,, whereas EffectMinx just has that auto lane for 2 parameters, takes a bit more fingering if you want to do something ‘south specific’ ( shout out to the weirdo portsmouth bands i lived amongst for 2 years back in the 80’s ).
I had a look at the Flux feller, and noted the separate nodes in a lane, but then clocked that you can assign different setups to keys/MIDI in Effectrix, which adds a bit of live jamming fun to the performance, so on balance that outweighed the Fluxy.
Thank you too, @walkie. I squeaked GR-16 in at the last minute. I'll catch hell, but I've gotten pretty good at that over the years! It's not that apps cost so much (because they are pretty cheap, really) as much as it is the constant dinging when you buy something. It goes through Apple, then PayPal, and then our bank. Rattling nerves all along the way...
I picked up GR-16 and need to know if the (2) $5 IAP’s are on sale. If not I can wait. Or I have to wrestle with Techno vs House and probably seek examples.
I also grabbed LumaFusion to make videos for music accompaniement and a new grand baby. I’m sure it ha IAP’s too that I will start to want a sale price opportunity so if you know slip me a clue or 2.
Tornado is like a rubic’s cube... just sayin’. Make videos with solutions. @daveypoo? @theaudiodabbler?
Just turn some knobs on the edit page, if I could learn it so can you
They're not. And for my taste, the charm of GR-16 is designing your own sounds.
That's what it excels at.
Knobs? We don’t need no stinkin’ knobs!
Just hit the dice buttons.
There are uses of the word “just” that I like and some that I don’t. I’m just going to look for the dice.
Meanwhile, I started playing with RippleMaker and PhaseMaker and immediately fell in Love.
Here you’ll find 16 videos about Turnado:
It takes under a minute to do screen recording and another minute to upload to YouTube. If it is not reproducible, it’s not a bug because the dev would have no clue what to fix. If you cannot demo with a video, it’s no use complaining. I just rechecked both standalone and AU versions of SM1 on my iPad Pro and found absolutely no issues with its menus - they all work fluidly with just one tap. If fact, they are the most optimally laid out, well designed and highly structured menus.
You could always try the normal version of Auria at half the price and, if you found it dealt well with long stems and track mixing, upgrade to the Pro version. And if i'm not mistaken it's just another 12.99 to upgrade to Pro from the normal version (at these current sale prices) ..someone can correct me if that isn't the case.
One thing that has always annoyed me with the NS2 IAPs is that they come in pairs, with quite fuzzy description and the same audio sample to showcase what they do. That, in reality to me, means I have to get two IAPs for each "genre" I'd like. I know the old NS2 foxes just say "get all of them, I did" but that isn't helping us who haven't gotten them all just yet.
JAX Stereo Tool and Make Louder are free at the moment.
I think I got them free when they were first released, but recent prices were $5.99 each.
Turnado vids just for you @McD
