  • His email address is listed in the copyright info of the new app. Don’t want to post it publicly. He contacted me with a code directly from FB so maybe that is all he is using?

  • This is not directed at you,
but that is just incredibly fucked up.

  • How are the two versions different?

I am thinking the old one is not getting updated, and is currently removed from the AppStore.

It’s ok I found it, dev sent a code, all rosy.

  • The user and all related content has been deleted.
  • Just got a code from the dev! Nice guy. Thank you Pascal !

  • Got mine too

  • I wish the dev elaborated on what happened. So far I don't quite understand what Apple should've helped him with.

  • It's still in my purchased items list and dl's np

  • The user and all related content has been deleted.
  • I just get...

    Did you not read above?

Yes I did: "Following some serious lack of support from Apple to help me fix a problem, I was forced by Apple to delete DM2". So before we all start blaming Apple, I wonder what is that Apple should've helped him with.

Perhaps the fix is propagating on the app store regions.

  • Is it the same app or are there new features?

Must be the old one then.
New one is iPad only, like it is supposed to be.
iPhone version was a mistake, and probably caused this whole problem.

I choose to believe him. He's a longtime iOS developer who is very straightforward. He's offering free codes to any who ask. He sent me a code free via Facebook simply because I sent him a note earlier that others were having a problem with the iPhone version.

I can understand why he wouldn't want to go into great public detail about his dealings with Apple on the forum.

  • I think I'll just buy it again. I had a fabulous baguette earlier, fresh and crisp and perfect, thickly buttered, some ham and some brie. If I could tip the guy who originally developed the baguette (or the brie) I would, but as it is Allez France etc.

I don't understand why you're talking about believing him or not, I never said I didn't believe him.

But, as a developer, I'd like to know - is it that Apple suddenly wanted to remove the app, or is it that he wanted to do something that's not possible to do with an existing app (e.g. make it iPad-only again), Apple didn't help and he had to create a new app. Big difference, right?

  • Yah if it gets AU or actual ‘full midi’ implementation I will just buy it again. Cant really see using it too much until then anyway.

Yes, if I was a developer, I would want to know so as to avoid making the same mistake myself. That’s not calling the developer’s honesty into doubt.

  • Whatever, we're arguing semantics. "Before we start blaming Apple" implies that maybe the blame lies elsewhere. Well, us speculating here does no good at all. Why don't you send him a note?

And so it is. Let the developer explain what went exactly wrong. To give a promo-code is a short term solution.

My guess is that the developer uploaded an update with the universal flag set by accident and then found out that the AppStore didn’t like it if you tried to make a universal app un-universal again.

Which kind of makes sense as it would allow unscrupulous developers to withdraw support for the iPhone or iPad (and then try and charge separately for the two versions).

If my guess is right he couldn’t undo his mistake himself so he asked Apple to help.

    And they didn’t.

Hence the only option was to remove the app to prevent more people from downloading it for the iPhone. And then as he couldn’t re-upload an iPad only version he had to use a different account.

The only other option would appear to be to upload a working universal update but that would only work if an update was ready.

    You're both spot on.
By learning from his problem with Apple and the app
it will assist other developers in the future especially indie dev's.

  • To redeem the code from Pascal you just type it in where you type in gift card codes correct?
