Should be this simple.. .. But importing a midi file is pure magic..
Here is a video showing two issues (and it turns out the host transport linkage is irrelevant)
1) recording sometimes requires going into the piano roll and pressing the play button there even if you aren’t linked to the host transport and the LK play button has been pressed (and the clip tapped
2) recording into an empty slot is not working
For some reason when you tap the empty clip it’s not changing to record mode (with a red dot in a corner). I’m doing the exact same thing as you and I can record into an empty clip.
There is some bug for sure, you’re doing everything right. I wonder what could be the reason. I’m on iOS 14.2 using the latest beta. How about you?
iOS 13.7. Using the app store version that was just released. Perhaps you could reinstall the app store version and see if it works for you. Maybe your version is more recent?

I am not getting the same ‘not starting when recording’ problem as @espiegel123, but I am having trouble getting midi to record consistently. It seems to drop out, or record really short or really long notes that I didn’t play, and it spikes the hell out of my CPU and the single AU synth (Phasemaker) breaks up completely.
I can get it to start recording in an empty slot or a new clip, synced with AUM, no problem.
After recording starts, and it is also sending to the AU synth, is when my problems appear.
If I don’t send the LK track output to anything, it seems to record fine, and the CPU is stable.
I have a feeling this is related to the weird iOS 14.2 midi bug that has recently been discussed on the forum, but can’t say for sure.
But it might be worth waiting for 14.3 to see if these problems magically go away. Or if anyone is on the iOS beta and has LK, it would be cool if you could chime in.

I could only get to draw the automation on the matrix
It can record from the built in IAPs, like LK Controller, but I haven’t been able to record an external controller app, like Rozeta LFO.
Sounds easy but I couldn’t figure out. Just gave up and bought Aum midi mix
I'm completely puzzled with this problem... I've just tested and it works.
My main development iOS device is an iPad Pro 12.9 (2nd Gen) running iOS 13.3.1 (I never rush updating the iOS devices to avoid breaking development tools).
Let me get to the office to see the result on the other two devices. @espiegel123 can you please join the TestFlight? We will need your feedback on forthcoming builds. This is a very specific and weird behaviour.
Can you please try one of those crazy last resort things like rebooting your device and trying again?

Yes, important is to setup midi routing, setting track armed and song recording.
As a result of the controller pool, Launchpad Pro and Launch Control XL. Are the next controllers to have dedicated support on LK. Thank you for your feedback.

You have to set on midi the source and the output.

Sure, just ensure clips are triggered (stop the song with the clips playing), and then hit start on the host.
