Not sure what the issue is. You might just need to give it some time. If you haven't already, you could try restarting your device, signing out/in with your Apple ID in Settings, reinstalling the app, etc.

Thanks for that. It truly is a bullshit IAP system they have though. I have restarted with no luck.

I cannot make any recommendations other that what has already been said, but I will mention that until very recently I had to re-download my purchased SWAM instruments every time I started up GeoShred Pro. They really need to look closer into their In-App Purchase model in the app, because it is very poorly implemented.

Ailerom and others I've I looked at the messages coming from the GeoShred IAP store. The source for these messages is that the network connection to the servers that Apple uses to store IAPs is timing out.

    • Apple stores IAPs on different servers than apps. These servers are not always in the US. The IAPs can be stored on edge servers around the world from lots of different providers with varying levels of Quality Of Service (QOS). So if you are in country outside the US, you may be hitting an edge server with a stale cache. Are you outside the US? The solution for this is usually to reboot your device to get a fresh connection. I understand that you have tried rebooting your device. Sometimes you need to wait a bit for the edge server cache to refresh.

      • If you do reboot your device then, relaunch GeoShred and go to "Menu> Store> Restore Purchases". IMPORTANT: Be sure to watch the status window at the top to make sure that the downloads have fully completed before tapping the close button.

      • If this does not work, we have diagnostic tools build into GeoShred. Can you send me a device/log report by going to "Menu> Help> Report Problem> Send a detailed report" This will setup an email using the Apple email client that you can send to me. IF you don't use the Apple email client it will also save the userReport.zip in "Menu> Files" You can use "Menu> Files> Export to export it to iCloud and you can send it from there.

      • Finally a last measure would be to re-install GeoShred and restore purchases. To do a clean install:

      • Delete GeoShred (save your personal presets to iCloud with "Menu> Files",
      • Install GeoShred from scratch from the iTunes App Store
      • And go "Menu> Store" and restore purchases. IMPORTANT: Be sure to watch the status window at the top to make sure that the downloads have fully completed before tapping the close button.

Thanks and I look forward to hearing from you how this goes,

Thanks, I'm in Australia. Seems odd that the only time I've experienced this is every time (3) I have made an IAP with GeoShred and no other App I can recall.

  • @moForte Not sure how long waiting "for a bit" is. I gave it 3 full minutes.> @Ailerom said:

    (A) When I do the restore it downloads the GeoTenorSax but not the Cello or Violin which also show as purchased. It's sits showing completed install for the Sax for about 2 minutes before a notice (summarized) about taking my geoshred store experience to the next level with........

    I sent the detailed report.

Did the reinstall. Same outcome as above at (A). Word for word. Now when I tap on GeoFlute purchase nothing happens. Been trying to buy this since 7am this morning so really starting to piss me off.

The item is currently being modified blah blah blah.

    Weird...
I have never encountered any issue when buying a GeoSwam instrument.

Are you using a VPN or something like that ?
It can mess up the connections.

Or maybe try with a free VPN connected from somewhere outside of Australia.

    No, no VPN running.

  • @Ailerom It's a good idea to try a different network connection, too, if that is an option for you. Wi-Fi instead of Cellular Data or vice versa or a different Wi-Fi network.

  • SWAM Flute in GeoShred is £9.99 from £14.99 - I think it is the same reduction in dollars.

    Ailerom,

First I hear that you are frustrated, and I very much want to see you be able to get the product that you want.

As a developer, these problems are frustrating for us as well, because the problem is with a network path between you and Apple and there is little that we can do directly to assist you. Here are some thoughts:

    • Thanks for letting me know that you are in Australia. That is an important clue to what is going on.

    • I've examined the diagnostic log that you sent me. I can see that you previously successfully purchased the GeoCello, GeoViolin and GeoTenorSax. I can see that you have tried to purchase the flute several times and the transaction is failing due to a network timeout at your ISP. One thing to know, is that the "Purchase" button is little more than one line of HTML code that goes directly to Apple's StoreKit. The failure is happening somewhere between your device and Apple. It's very likely that an edge cache server at your ISP has a stale cache. I think telecharge's suggestion to try a different network, if you can, is a good one. These type of stale server cache issues can sometimes resolve quickly or sometimes take a day or more.

    • I gave you (by email) a code for a free copy of the GeoFlute so that you could sidestep Apple's eCommerce flow. What happened when you redeemed that code with the instructions that I provided?

    • I also asked you if you have you changed your AppleID login since the original GeoShred Play purchase was made. Can you let me know if your AppleID changed?

    • Finally I suggested, as a last resort, that you do a clean re-install of GeoShred Play as well as a "Restore Purchases". The diagnostic log file that you send me does not indicate that a clean re-install was done. Did you do that and what was the result?

    Thanks,

Pat Scandalis CEO/CTO moForte, the developer of GeoShred.

I'm in Sweden and also had similar issues every time: when I first upgraded from play and also when bought my 2 swams. No other IAP has shown this behavior .. ever. I'm not fishing for any free stuff, just letting you know and if you look at other threads with your instruments/upgrades you'll see that this is very common and not a location based miss communication.

@moForte That is really great customer service considering all the effing and jeffing that @Ailerom has worked himself up into 😂

    Top class 👍

Also congrats on the SWAM collaboration. Big move for iOS.

  • @moforte: fwiw, I am in the U.S. and i have been surprised by the number of times that the AU has told me that I don’t own the the GeoShred Sax and has required me to go to the main app to restore purchases..which has led it to re-download the IAP.

I love the app. It does seem like it is very sensitive to thinking the IAP needs to be redownloaded. FWIW, I a, running iOS 13.7

I’m in the US and have experienced the same issues. I’m not joining in to point fingers or administer “mob justice” here, just to suggest that the issue may not be limited to StoreKit. I’ve made many in-app purchases with many different apps and GeoShred Pro has had the most issues. To be fair, in the last month my issues seem to have been resolved and I’m not re-downloading my purchases every time I start the app.

    Folks,

When we first launched there was an issue where iOS garbage collection was deleting the GeoSWAM instruments from the App Cache causing users to have to "Restore Purchases". We plead mea culpa on that, and we addressed it in an update about 6 weeks ago. Having to re-install the instruments is a different issue from the connection to the Apple timing out, which is what I see in Ailerom's log file.

Anecdotally we do sometimes get reports of the timeouts happening. They often come from users in clusters from the same geographic location, and they resolve over hours or days.

    Thanks,

    I sent the detailed report.

Did the reinstall. Same outcome as above at (A). Word for word. Now when I tap on GeoFlute purchase nothing happens. Been trying to buy this since 7am this morning so really starting to piss me off.

The item is currently being modified blah blah blah.

I would agree that it seems better the past month than earlier.

Anecdotally we do sometimes get reports of the timeouts happening. They often come in clusters from users near a specific geographic location, and they resolve over hours or days.

    Thanks,

    -pat

  • @moForte : that update 6 weeks ago may have solved the issue.

Alright, my bad then. There are not that many instruments to buy as you get the impression of reading some comments but I was referring to earlier threads/posts and haven't bought anything since, sooo. I'm thinking of buying the flute but can't make up my mind. Anyway, I sincerely apologize if the old problem of having to repeat the buying process is gone. Good riddance :)

@moForte That is really great customer service considering all the effing and jeffing that @Ailerom has worked himself up into 😂

I'm Australian. That's just how I talk. I actually exercise a lot of self control on forums not to talk like I am thinking.

    Great customer support though, agreed.

(edit) Probably not worth reading this second pre coffee post. See below.

@moForte Still no joy. Exact same scenario. Over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over. Over to you.

Thanks for the reply. I don't understand why this IAP affects one app and not another. Every Geoshred purchase has been like this although not as long lasting. I don't expect to understand though as it's not my area of expertise. For all I know each app has its own cache server.

Unfortunately I have no different network option.

No to the different apple ID. Been using this one for 7 or so years.

I did say above that I'd reinstalled and there was no change. The reinstall went smoothly and I was able to restore purchases for the Pro upgrade, Cello, Violin and Sax but no change to the store function.

I haven't checked my email but I will and let you know how that goes. Thanks again for helping with this.

  • I wonder if there’s a DNS resolution issue. Perhaps under your WiFi settings, try manually setting your DNS servers to either 1.1.1.1 (Cloudflare) or 8.8.8.8 (Google).

  • Not a Music App but one I use quite a bit for all my work, and personal notes, pdf’s, etc. is Notability. It’s $5 off, so now it’s $3.99, usually $8.99. there are IAPS, but none are must haves. I think they grandfathered me in on Hand Writing recognition because I never purchased it but now seems to be an IAP, so...that sucks. It has good handwriting recognition with Pencil, or Crayon, that works well, so if your looking for a document/notes/etc app this is one of the top ones IMO. Zoom Notes is a good too.

Is there any reason you know of why that would only affect one app (that I know of)?

  • @moForte Thanks again for the help and the generous option of the redeem code as a resolution. I used that method and there was no issue whatsoever. I redeemed the code, restarted, restored purchases and voila, flute installed and functioning as expected. Not sure if it is worth mentioning but I have the upgraded Play version of GeoShred with all but 2 SWAM instruments. When I restore purchases the only message I get is that the Sax has been restored. Regardless of that, thanks for the support and hopefully next time there are no issues.

It seems that it is especially the sax that has to be restored. happens to me too, a few comments here mentioned it and on the screenshot someone posted, you also see that the app is restoring the geosax that very moment, hmm... my cello IAP never had to be redownloaded.

I'm having the same problem "this item is modified right now, try again later" when trying to buy the flute from Germany. with both my cable connection and mobile data.
