  • @FloRi89 Segments is an huge improvement over Reslice. So many more options available, esp in Aum which is key for me. I love virsyn stuff but Eliot garage hit it out of the park with Segments. Top app

  • I don’t have reslice, it’s an app I almost bought about a dozen times. It does have that cool Virsyn Arp, but since I had sEGments I’ve held off on Reslice because of the overlap. I’d check out the thread @ervin shared.

Anyone know what timestretch algorithm audiostretch uses?

And how does ReSlice compare to EG Segments

    Maybe here: https://forum.audiob.us/discussion/42735/reslice-vs-segments-which-is-better-for-what

    Thanks!

    And thanks to you, too!

  • That stretch thingy seem really good. Just tried it for a bit but at the very slowest it did an excellent job. Good deal on that one.

Afaik the algorithm was written by Congnosonic themselves.

Thank you. Will get it at this price I think.

I got encouraged by your recommendation and got the app and then generated a slowed down file from the same source from it and from Koala Sampler and to my ear, the result from Koala sounds better. Koala has quite good algorithm. Perhaps for most of the people it is enough and there is no need to pay extra for another app.

I have Koala too and Cubasis which is good for stretching. Still, for £2 it might come in handy one day

  • I have Brushfri and it is my default noise killer for all live recordings except I will now use the DENoiser in N- track. They are very similar. I also have Audio Reverb by Virsyn and it is my favorite standalone Reverb. Lord knows I have them all…

I don't think Koala can keep the original pitch as well as this one do when doing extreme stretches. Beside that: you didn't have to buy it, they offer a free lite version to try out with first, which they are pretty clear with on the paid version page.

  • Is samplr worth buying, if I got koala, reslice, Drambo, which could be triggered via midi so it plays back as a sequence, with chance, maybe arps, pitching and effects?

Samplr is a unique app, and is different then those you mentioned. Sure it does some of the same things, but it’s best when played live with the touch screen, not as great for sending midi in. I Bought it awhile back and it is pretty great, but I don’t use it that often since I lean more towards sequencing, and Auv3 apps these days. Try these threads for more info, as well as YouTube for some demo videos.

I understand you, but I had a feeling that fidelity lowered when treating the file in Audiostretch. Nothing like this happened with file slowed down with Koala. But this is subjective
And I think everyone should just try and hear, not only believe when everyone is praising an app. Cheers

I've now looked a little bit closer and you can't compare the two. I stretched a 0.003 second sample (84Kb) to a 59 minutes* sample (582Mb) with AudioStretch by using 0.01 twice. This is almost 'PaulStretch' stuff (not really but it is really cool). Koala can't do this for export, not even close or if it can I don't know how.

*edited, I incorrectly wrote seconds at first. Sorry.

@israelite @Pxlhg Rather than just words, it would be great to hear examples, perhaps in a separate thread. Original and stretched Wavs or stream links. You could post the link to the new thread here 👍

You're right and there are threads elsewhere about this. I would like to make an important correction: I did not stretch it to 59 seconds but to 59 minutes, hence the size. Now, sorry again for hijacking the sales thread and see you elsewhere.

I disagree that Segments is better than Reslice. They are both very good apps with their own uses. While there is some overlap, they each have special things they do that the other doesn't. I find Reslice's arpeggiatior inspiring to use. It is especially cool for realtime re-groovifying loops.

I think Virsyn have higher quality FX

My problem with Reslice (sorry to do this in a sales tread) was that it didn’t let you adjust pitch of slices from an external controller which for me was sooo needed in an app of this type. Luckily Segments let’s you control everything about a slice from an external controller so it’s suited to my needs.

I’ll concede that Reslice is just a different app that might be closer to Samplr and that Virsyn fx and their ARP are top!

    Great vid btw

  • I've grown to like ReSlice a lot lately, especially using the arp to 're-arrange' the sample...
...one of the reasons that happened was when I was told I can copy & paste from the Files.app.
Copy in Files.app there puts the file in the pasteboard and I can then paste it into ReSlice, BOOM!

Even though we have sEGments I'm still holding on for something like Ableton Simpler, Cubase Sampler Track or Logic Quick Sampler for iOS/iPadOS.

VirSyn should release that arpeggiator as an auv3.

Agreed. Arpeggist but somewhat out of date.
