Anyone know if the dev is active here or if there anyway we can pester them. 😈

It doesn't look like they've been around here for quite some time. See: https://forum.audiob.us/profile/k7k0

They're on social media and have an email address on their website - https://aphelian.io/about

Most videos i see of aphelian are standalone, is it just as useful in a daw controlling auv3s?

    Thanks

In stand-alone mode you can assign the synths and the drums to separate midi channel outs.
When using it with a DAWonly the sequencer side of Aphelian is available.
As a sequencer though it’s very useful if you enjoy using it in stand-alone mode.

Thanks, it's the sequencer part I liked. Can you assign the modulation to auv3 CCs?

Yes, you can assign> @ronnieb said:

Not that I can see in the first couple mins playing around with it unfortunately. Kinda gutted, that was one of the main things I was looking to use this for

You can send all the movements of the planets and its moons as CC messages for Y and X values, it takes some setup to route them, but it is possible.

Ah I meant using the auv3 but yeah I suppose IAA is the way to go at the mo

That is using Aphelian standalone sending midi out to other apps/host, not IAA.. As auv3 you only get orbits as note sequencers.

  • I just hooked up Gadget to the 5 outputs of Aphelian, had to assign new note values (1 octave up) for the drums but the rest was very straight forward. Gadget is perfect for this as you have so many options and you kind of only have two apps running .. kind of. We'll see if something serious can come put of it :)

    2 AUv3 modes

sequencer mode - 1 of the four sequencers you get in standalone
Arp mode - send midi into the shapes for arpeggios

It also has 4 midi outs in standalone, 5 if you count drum sequencer
It also does cc modulation inside standalone or can be used to modulate things outside the app, I think it said that in manual but I’ve yet to figure that out.

I think the auv3 sequencer/arp is worth 5.99 alone, then you get the standalone, it is only the first 48 hours after purchase but it seems dope. You can select a bunch of shapes, you can draw in the sequence of notes, or select a sequence of notes, set notes or scales. Pinch, zoom, rotate shape and size… Etc…

    Manual.

    A short PSA re: Aphelian:

You're all welcome. Which app would you guys like me to buy next at full price "because it's never discounted anyway", just to trigger a rare half-off promo days later?

Lol. That’s happened to me before, can’t remember which app it was exactly but after a day or so I was OK with it because the app was so great that I felt like it was worth the full price anyways.

I was super excited to see HyperPAD visual coding on iPad was free usually $14.99 up until I went to the app page and discovered it was now subscription or a large one time fee. I’m not sure if there’s any free features, I downloaded it and I’m gonna try it we shall see….

Well in terms of price ‎Hammond B-3X is super expensive, but 50% off isn't going to cut it for me... 80% might! 🤣

  • @telecharge said:
Thanks, @ervin! Is this why there's been no discount on Drambo? 😛

Actually, yes. I'm still holding out on that one. Apologies.

    Lol.

  • Hey team, I’m keen to grab one of the Swam String instruments while they’re on sale. Budget doesn’t stretch past one or is by the bundle. Just wondering if I’d be better to go for the violin or viola, just in terms of range. I’ll be mostly applying generous splashes of reverb and other post production for my uses. Thanks for any thoughts!

LOL. Fair enough. That'll be a No though. I'm struggling to maintain a semblance of fiscal discipline here, at least until this year's Black Friday app sales. 🤷

I mean, they’re different instruments, so if you prefer the tonal qualities of one versus the other, then there’s your answer.

Thanks @NeuM . I guess I was wondering how far either could be pushed in terms of pitch range. Sorry, wasn’t very clear.

The range of each emulates the real range of both instruments. The violin range is from G2-F6. The viola plays slightly lower in the overall range (C2-C6). I like both, however I have serious issues with the MPE implementation for iPad, which has not been optimized for the devices. If you are using a physical external controller keyboard you will probably have a better experience.

You can transcribe the playable notes for each swam instrument. Obviously each one sounds best in its proper range, but it is possible to play the bass high and violin low. I’d go Cello or Double Bass. That’s just my personal thoughts.

If you can handle the difference in range the cello is a better emulation, IMO.

  • Is the Swam Solo string Bundle worth it for someone who has Beathwawk(Doublebass and string/orchestra iaps) and Ns2( Acoustic 1/2 iaps)?
I also just would use them with kb-1/velocity keyboard. Or would it be a waste of money in that case?

im mostly interested in the Cello and double bass but would take the others as a bonus in the bundle.

  • @Nathi94 I can't see it being worth it but that's just me. I have the Geoshred strings and after using the SWAM betas there was nothing that tempted me. Playability was the primary focus for me though. I'm not aware of whether one sounds remarkably better than the other.

100% worth it. Nothing compares. Nothing.

Have you tried Pen2bow for the SWAM String instruments?
