I don't own Lemur @AndyPlankton. Any chance you can post a screenshot so we can assess whether your editor makes this a must buy or not.
By the way, I have tried to get my editor out of TB MIDI Stuff to share with folk but I can't for the life of me work out how. There are two export options in TBMS - via email and iTunes. The file seems too big and crashes my email which means the only option is iTunes but I tried and failed to do this. Can anyone enlighten me with how document sharing via iTunes works?!
There are screen shots higher up in the thread (page 20 about half way down). apart from using up as much space as possible and the addition of the midi enable button there is little to no difference personally I wouldn't want to recommend buying lemur just to run this template, at £18.99 it is a big investment, and I do not plan on providing much in the way of support for this template, I plan to spend my time actually making some music for a bit.
There is no ability to do a bulk dump of a patch between circuit and Lemur due to a limit in the size of sysex received by Lemur, this is also discussed higher up in this thread.
But hey, at least you can edit the synths using iOS
Nice one, found the screenshots, yeah remember seeing those before. Enjoy the music making!
I will Can't wait to get Bassalicious alongside the drums and synths from circuit
Great. Thanks so much for posting. The only iPad editor I've seen so far which includes all parameters. I look forward to testing it over the next few days.
@JiggyWig I forgot to thank you for the Snoize tip. Thanks.
I didn't manage to get any Windows solutions to work (including involving MIDI-Yoke etc to try to give me something to monitor). But Snoize MIDI Monitor works out of the box with a simple checkbox to snoop on other applications. Just wish I didn't have to borrow my son's Macbook to do it
Let me know how you get on, and let me know of any issues you find
Not sure if your problem is at the TB MS end, and the app handles this in a curious way, but in TB MS, if you tap the + symbol (in the top menu bar) to get the Add Page popup, scroll down to iTunes Documents Folder heading, tap Export Pages and tick a page that you want to share to the iTunes folder (you may have to do this 1 page at a time). Do the same for any canvas snapshots. TB MS force closes at this stage for me, but if I open iTunes (or iFunbox, as an easier option), click on the iPad symbol that appears alongside the top menu, click on Apps in left menu bar, scroll down with with far right scroll bar to File Sharing, and select TB MS, then I can see the files I'm after.
You're welcome
FWIW I've been trying to reverse the sample bank format, it's not quite as straightforward as I would have hoped, though I have got as far as locating the sample length fields. Not had any luck unpacking the samples data yet. It seems to be a simple encoding, though I haven't figured it out yet.
Best of luck for a breakthrough or 2
Ok, got single page (except macros) TBMS synth editor layout sorted:
"Just" need to assign the CCs, which does take a wee while...
I like the mod matrix, I couldn't do that with mine if I wanted drop down lists because the list in lemur does not size to the window, as you get nearer the bottom of the Windows, the more of the list you won't see, and they don't scroll.
Are you able to do the NRPN stuff ok in tbms ?
I am no expert, but the midi functionality seems very thorough:
Ok, I give in. How for the life of me do I map the mod matrix settings in TB MIDI Stuff? Help. Me. Plllllleeeeeaaaasssseeee. Lol. (as you can tell this is driving me nuts)
You need to use a NRPN message, for an NRPN you need values for MSB, LSB, and value
so, for example ModMatrix1 source 1
NRPN message would be MSB-1, LSB-83, Value can be from 0-12
If you look at the MIDI Implementation chart for Circuit, you should see how I got these values, see the ModMatrix table to see what each value represents
Hope this helps
Thanks @AndyPlankton. That works swimmingly for most things, I thought setting values like 0-12 would work as you suggest but bizarrely only seems to work when I set the range to the full range of NRPN for some of the parameters (i.e. 0 - 16383). However, for selecting the 13 different sources in the mod matrix this doesn't seem to work (0-12 doesn't work either, I only get "direct" or "env3" as my sources). And also, I can set the modulation positively, but not negatively. Not sure if that makes any sense! Thought I understood MIDI relatively well then hit stuff like this haha.
Here are input options on TBMS:
You probably need to use signed value for the Modulation (signed means + or -)
What you are seeing from the Source behaviour suggest it is jumping from 0 to 12 (or higher),
I don't know TBMS, so I am guessing here, try and turn 'Fine Value OFF', there are 2 types of CC in Midi, those that go from 0-127 (like all of the ones used in Circuit) and those that go from 0-16383, I think 'Fine value' may be the switch that controls which of these you are using. So set it off, and then set the Min and Max to 0 and 12 respectively.
I thought I had tried all that but will try again. Signed doesn't work as expected for example on the envelope amount settings, it all seems a bit hit and miss.
You really should invest in TBMS, and not just to get me out of this pickle!
Are you able to monitor the output you are getting from TBMS ? that may help figure out what is going wrong ?
Hmmmmm not sure, is there a means to record MIDI info on iOS? I do have an old Powerbook but it's in the attic somewhere and a midi interface all hooked up with the rest of my gear somewhere else so not the easiest to do otherwise!
(Good plan though, and thanks for taking the time to respond)
EDIT - D'uh, I can hookup via USB. Will look for my PB.
I just checked the manual, and from what it says in there, for your Source select
Turn fine value off,
keep signed value off
with Min value 0 and Max value 12 you should be good to go, is there a setting elsewhere on the fader for the number of steps, you could also try setting this to 12
Panning would be a great addition.
Right, sorted:
Fine value off
Signed value off
Min value 0, Max value 1664 (i.e. 128x13)
Thanks @AndyPlankton for giving me the nudge!
You are welcome... and who knew Kronenbourg would help
Finally! Worked out how to export via itunes... here is my TBMS editor:
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/4725797/Linked%20Files%20%28DO%20NOT%20MOVE%29/TBMS/New%20Circuit%20Editor.tbms
You can save "snapshots" of each page too, which can be used to save patches! All you need to do, is recall the snapshot of your saved patch and "send all current values" to the circuit, works like a charm! So here is a rather basic patch for you all to test it out (whack on loads of delay and reverb):
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/4725797/Linked%20Files%20%28DO%20NOT%20MOVE%29/TBMS/Lfo%20patch%20test.tbmc
EDIT - For some reason I created this for Synth 2. Just change the output channel via settings to edit Synth 1.
This is brilliant. Thanks!
Thanks @Salamander69, obviously if you spot any errors or have any feedback, drop me a line. I will do the macro page soon, probably over the weekend, so could make any necessary tweaks then. I had a long play with the Circuit using the editor last night and it really opens the instrument up. Not just my editor of course, there are a few others out there worth checking out and not just for TBMS too - if anyone is interested it is worth checking out the Circuit Owners facebook page where a few have appeared in the "Files" section.
But that is the great thing about the Circuit, on the basic level it is a terrifically simple and intuitive instrument, with macro automation adding a layer of depth. But if you want to go deeeeeeeeper into the synthesis side of things you can do. Had mine for sale for a few weeks, but now it's a keeper.
