  • I tend to keep the editor open while I work on it in the studio, there's a lot of functionality there that improves things. Chorus, Phasor, more distortions, etc. I've also found that just changing a synth voice allocation from Mono to Poly really opens up a lot of the sounds. Quickly save those changes back to the hardware unit, and then I have some nicely tweaked presets for when I'm just using the hardware on battery power.

Like Tarekith I tend to keep the editor open if I'm at the computer.

I've found that often just tweaking the macro knob assignments have breathed more interest into patches that are seeming uninspiring, likewise taking a nice mono sound and setting it into poly mode then tweaking it so I can play bass & lead on the same patch can be pretty cool.

I have made only a couple of patches from scratch, and they were fairly simple, I find there's lots of scope to tweak the factory sounds once you have the editor.

Anyone here with custom synth patches? I would love some pluck sounds and clean bass.

I might try to make some over the next few days, will share if they are any good

I haven't tried them yet but Paul Cotton, amongst a handle of others, has shared a collection of his patches on the Circuit Owners Group on Facebook (on 5th March, as a reply to a post by Pascal Angenent). Paul Cotton describes them as being for their tweakability with the Circuit macros, rather than their initial sounds. Not sure if there are plucks in there though.

I initially was planning on wiping the Circuit and making my own patches from scratch. But I quickly learned that like you said, just tweaking the macros on some of the crappy stock presets breaths totally new life into them. It's a cinch to save them back to the unit then. I think I went through and tweaked all 64 presets that way in less than half an hour. Did that couple days before the new update, so at the moment it's like having a totally new box with all these new sounds at my disposal.

    HAH,how about that:

if you chain patterns: can you record a melody live over 2-4 bars/patterns?Or do you have to record it in "pattern pieces" and chain them together when you are done?I'm thinking about pads/strings,that's something you rarely would do only one bar long.

You can chain all 8 patterns and record continuously over them! GOod deal!

Ok,that was the 10 on my scale  I went to my local dealer today and bought it (after i played arround with it for half an hour).

Very similar: I went to local dealer today, played with one for 1/2 hour, but then got a call to meet a friend for lunch...I left without a purchase. It was really fun to mess with and I'm not sure if I'll get one sooner or a little later. But yeah, I want one for sure now, no doubts.

I am at a point now where if I go two days without using it I get twitchy.

It's a pretty amazing designer bedside light as well  https://forum.audiob.us/uploads/editor/9q/j4p43bs15dn6.jpeg ""

You guys are all so impulsive, I had to play with it for 2.5 hours before I was convinced.... or maybe I just got carried away playing and nobody stopped me

Session launching is great, you cna tweak the crap out of a session then just press that session button again to reload your saved values at the next pattern change. Great for build ups and drops.

That's very cool. The Akai Headrush looper pedal is similar in that once you 'capture' the initial loop you can go nuts on top and at any point revert to the initial loop. A simple seeming feature but one that I long for in other loopers.

  • With SHIFT+PATTERN you can do that with ESX/EMX Electribes too.

  • Anyone here having success to connect the Circuit directly to the ipad?Midi i mean...it says class compliant but it doesn't show up on ipad.

  • Anyone in Melbourne want to buy mine? Minty. $350aud

Box and all bits and bobs, software keys unused.

Lovely kit but I'm just not gelling with it. I'm a keyboard player and I'm finding the grid too different to what I'm used too. I think muscle memory is hard to rewire

  • I was using it with a midi keyboard plugged in yesterday, kind of defeats the point

Yes, no issues connecting with CCK and USB cable provided. I've been working on an editor using Midi Designer Pro.

Shows up for me in AUM etc.

I really love holding down shift when changing sessions. I just wish it worked when you send a program change via cc and have shift held down too or bettr yet a 'shift / program change' cc.

If you mean session changes, there's program numbers for both quantised and immediate switching. ( see my video to see how I used it: )

I can't say as I ever use actual program changes, my sessions are usually storing patches I've done at least some editor tweaking to. I don't bother writing them back into the presets.

Crom! I totally missed the 'instant' session versus the 'queued'. How lame of me. Thanks man, I appreciate it. This is huge for me!

If Midisteps could send program change cc to the Novation Circuit it would be the PERFECT iOS 'song mode' sequencer for it! The Circuit uses program change on channel 16 to switch 'sessions', (which are essentialy just a group of eight patterns).

Anyway, would it be possible to add 'program change' cc to the list?

Hey AG, I'll add that to the to-do list for the next feature update, but it might be a little bit. Hopefully the midiflow workaround works for you in the mean time.

Cool Mr Kerns, I total appreciate that and Midiflow should do it in the meantime. Thanks!

i tried it with the powered USB/Lightning connector and it didn't work first (using a an usb hub) because i had to try another combination (first switching on Circuit, then BS2 and last the Duo Capture EX).Now everything works like a charm and syncs great.

I also noticed that circuit forwards the incoming clock via midi out to BS2 if it slaves via Midi cable to the ipad. So,the midi out on circuit is"half"midi thru.Maybe it works as midi thru as well but i did not try yet to play the Bs2 via cubasis in this case.

  • So jealous of you guys, I'm looking forward to seeing what's in store for the next update.

  • i'll throw another TB Midi Editor in the ring. The reason i made an own one is i want only one page per synth. It almost fits,i had to ignore the 3rd envelope and there is no modulation matrix (yet)although some pre routed destinations for the LFOs (actually it controls the
depth for the first 6 slots of the mod matrix) .Also,it comes witch an init patch to match the LFO routings.

KNOWN ISSUES:changing the LFOs waveforms works only until the 11th waveform. From 11 upwards they are all the same (square or triangle afair).Don't know why it doesn't work,my settings seem ok.It works in the Mac editor.

could it be a firmware issue?Any ideas? It's a pitty because from wave 11 on the fun just START and it was the main reason to skip the 3rd envelope:to have more room for LFO controller.

Thanks @ghostly606 for your NRPN tips and the rest here for convincing me to get this little beast

  • Thanks @Crabman this looks cool.

  • I'm so tempted by this. Would be great to jam on in my lunch hours!

I was using it with my acoustic guitar and the MIDI Guitar app, I thought it was loads of fun myself.
